Video Transcript for Feature Breakdown: Replacement Orifice Connector for Dexter Actuators

Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this Dexter replacement orifice connector. This is going to replace the orifice connector for your Dexter Model 6, 10, or 20 actuator with drum brakes. It's also going to fit the Dico Models 10, 20, and 60 actuators and the Dico master cylinder that you see on the screen there. So if you have any of those, you can trust this is going to fit right in place of that original orifice connector.

It's got the 1/8-inch pipe threaded male end and then the 3/16-inch brake line fitting there. So it'll make that connection for you. That completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.

I installed surge brakes from etrailer on my boat trailer over 10 years ago. The actuator came with a reverse lockout solenoid which I didn't need for my self-releasing drum brakes. So I removed the solenoid and replaced it with a standard brass connector. My trailer brakes worked well but were very aggressive and the trailer would jerk, oscillate when coming to a complete stop. I put up with this for 10 years figuring with was a shock damping or trailer geometry shortcoming. Then I started poking around on the etrailer reviews and realized an orifice connector was needed for drum brakes. So I figured it was worth a try and ordered the orifice from etrailer. I removed the old brass connector and installed the new orifice in its place. Note the orifice is extremely small. Smaller than a pin or a paper staple. At first I was alarmed by this, but it all stared making sense. You need to slow down and reduce the pressure of the brake fluid flow from the master cylinder to brake actuators when the brakes come on and release. This is how you achieve dampening in the mechanical system, in addition to the shock absorber. The improvement was nothing short of miraculous. My issues with overly agressive braking and jerking/surging were gone! Can't believe it took me 10 years to figure this out. Thank you etrailer for posting the customer reviews which contain much valuable information. Hopefully this review cand help someone else experiencing similar issues.

Great replacement for my M1101 along w/ replacement master cylinder.

by:

The service at etrailer.com is second to none as aways, head a shipping delay and was able to get information about the issue quickly. Please note on the Titan 10 master cylinder page that this part maybe needed when replacing a older Titan 10/20 surge brake master cylinder, not knowing this did delay my repair by about a week.

by:

I'm not going to lie, I found the part cheaper elsewhere and I ordered it. The other companys communication was terrible and it took a week and a half before they told me it was backordered and would be 4 to 8 weeks. Should have bought it here first. The quality of service with etrailer is well worth sacrificing a few pennies. You get what you pay for

Size of the treads of the part did not match the back of the new (OEM Loadmaster trailer master cylinder)..Manufacturer May have changed the thread pattern or dealing with metric vs. SAE (non compatible)?? I filed off the threads on orifice connector (made it smaller in diameter to fit master cylinder hole) screwed in the part and the iron cut new threads into the brass fitting. Removed and applied JB Weld "steel putty" and re inserted. All appears fine no leaks
Please review the connectors to andy master cylinders you have for Titan #6 brake actuators in particular the master cylinder fit. Will advise if I begin to have issues...

by:

You "must" get this ( orifice ) / adapter when you replace the master cylinder on an old surge brake coupler for the old one doesn't fit the new one. I used an adapter from the auto parts store and the brakes hit way too hard / fast. This adapter should be included with the master cylinder or made clear that it is needed. It should be noted that it has a metric size hex nut. The adapter I tried is identical to this one but it has a much larger hole for the fluid to pass through.

by:

etrailer is great! They had exactly what I needed, great customer service and fast and free shipping on my order, they also sent emails to keep me updated on the one item they didn't have stocked. Thank you

by:

Just what I ordered, and very fast shipping!! Thank you!!

Worked as expected!

by:

Exactly what I needed for Hydraulic Drum Brakes. The orifice that came with the UFPA60 Actuator was too big and would lock up the brakes. This orifice makes trailer braking with Drum brakes extremely smooth. Top Notch

by:

It does what it's supposed to do. I replaced the master cylinder on my older Model 10 coupler and this is the new adapter that I needed to attach the master cylinder to the brake line on the trailer.

by:

I sent a question to E Trailer about what size orfice was in the fitting, they replied quickly but it must of been a question that someone else asked about a different item because the answer was not related to this item at all. No biggie, I went ahead and ordered it anyways and it’s exactly what I needed. I used it on a automotive application for vacuum restrictiion on a emission system. i figured for the price I couldn’t go wrong. Always had great service from E Trailer. Thanks

by:

This item fit exactly as described it was a good thing the etrailer people I talked to suggested I purchase this item to complete my project otherwise I would have been looking all over trying to find this item

by:

I looked everywhere and could not find the parts i needed, I came across etrailer.com and found every part i needed with a very good price. The site is very helpful with information and video's. Now I can get my trailer finest with the right parts and not jerryrig it.

by:

Fixed Master Cylinder which was also purchased, oversight of having a smaller Exit Port. Don't know if this is planned to get more money from extra parts and shipping.
Looks vulnerable to breaking off.

by:

I brought A MASTER CYLINDER t2374600 was to come with the orifice but instead I hade to buy another orifice for 19.51 Thanks

by:

I purchased a brake master cylinder on eBay. It did not come with this part, it should have. E trailer had it, shipped it quickly, made me feel bad I did not just buy the master cylinder from them in the first place.

by:

This worked perfectly with "Master Cylinder for Titan Actuators - Drum Brakes - T2374400" My brake line hooked into it perfectly.

by:

My order came on time and the product is great. The Tech support was great this is my new go to place for all my parts now.

by:

Etrailer.com has always been wonderful to me. I am disappointed in myself for believing that USPS first class mail is quicker than ground. This something I had assumed. Well, you know what "assumed" means, "it makes an ass out of you and me ".
Good Talk.

by:

I'm very happy they had this part and it was so easy to find. Fit and works perfectly. My trailer has brakes again!

by:

Adapter need when installing a new mastercylinder. Just wish it was included with the mastercylinder since the outlet hole is smaller than the original one, on the master cylinder. Must use this to get the line to connect to the mastercylinder. Adapter was shipped fast , and I was able to complete the job.

by:

So far all is good, wish they had had a note telling me that older models had different size adapters and that I needed to get a new one or just included it with the Master Cylinder!

by:

These guys are the best! Blake was very helpful with all of my questions. My order arrived before it was promised. The parts are perfect. I will definitely continue doing business with etrailer!

A very happy customer

by:

Was concerned when the drilled opening was many times smaller than the original. Called Titan to verify. A shame I was not told that I would need this for new master cylinder

by:

Very happy with all the items. Quick shipping and all appears to be of decent quality.

  • Orifice Connector for Titan Model 6 Disc Brake Actuator
Orifice Connector # T1209800 is for drum brakes. It is the new style with 1/8" NPT threads. For disc brakes you would need # T4750300. Drum brakes actually do not take the larger hole. Drum brakes require around 1000 psi whereas disc brakes require around 1500 to 1600 psi. The hole in the orifice through which the fluid flows is smaller on drum brake applications to limit the amount of fluid going back thus keeping the psi at the proper level. If the problem is your brake line fitting...

  • Why is the Hole So Small in Trailer Brake Master Cylinder Fittings
The small opening in master cylinder fittings like # T1209800 is designed to provide the proper amount of fluid and pressure through the brake lines. Bleeding trailer brakes manually is difficult. You could use a power brake bleeder, vacuum style bleeder like # PTW87030, or change methods of how you manually bleed the brakes. What I recommend is to attach the trailer safety chains together then position a long 2x4 upright between the chains and the front of the coupler. Use the long board...
