Video Transcript for Let’s Check Out the Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly for Dexter Model 6 Brake Actuators

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this replacement Master Cylinder Assembly for the Dexter Model 6 Drum Brake Actuators. Now, this replacement master cylinder assembly fits Dexter Model 6 brake actuators for drum brakes. As you can see, it will include everything shown here. The master cylinder itself, the cylinder mounting plate, the push rod assembly right here, and the diaphragm type filler cap on it.

Now as we mentioned, this master cylinder is designed for use only on drum brakes, and that's because drum brakes will require a maximum pressure rating of 1,000 PSI. So the orifice opening on the inside of this master cylinder is smaller than is used on disc brakes. This one we mentioned is for drum brakes. Now, disc brake actuators will require a maximum pressure rating of 1,500 to 1,600 PSI, so because of that, the master cylinder designed for disc brakes will have a larger orifice connector opening. If you do need one for the disc brakes, we do also sell that master cylinder separately.

It's part number T1777405. And when you look at it, it'll look exactly like this one. The only difference is on the inside, it'll have the larger orifice opening for the higher pressure for disc brakes. Now to install this, the bracket is included, but the mounting hardware is not included. You can use your existing hardware you already have or if you need new hardware, we do sell that separately.

It uses a self-tapping hex bolt, 5/16 diameter by half inch long. They are part number T1781500. And again, they're sold separately and usually listed on this product page as a related product. Now also to connect your brake line to this master cylinder, it will require an oriface connector that'll connect the 1/8 inch thread here that's on the master cylinder to a 3/16 brake line fitting that's on your trailer. That orifice connector sold separately, part number T1209800, and it is also listed on this product page as a related product.

But that should do it for the review on this replacement Master Cylinder Assembly for the Dexter Model 6 Drum Brake Actuators.

Here's a couple of pictures of the master cylinder that I purchased from etrailer installed on my boat trailer. One shows the new master cylinder installed with the old one sitting next to it for comparison. The other picture is just the new master cylinder installed without the sheet metal cover in place. I will be writing a review soon.

Thanks for the quick delivery and reasonable pricing. It makes the purchase a great value!

Its been a year since I installed the new master cylinder on my boat trailer. Just pulled the boat home from storage a couple of days ago and it is still working great.

Just replaced master cylinder on 1997 EZ Loader 7000 lb boat trailer. This master cylinder looks same as old one. The casting on the lid threads were so rough I had to file the casting bumps off so lid would screw on better on the threads. It was so rough I couldn't hardly get lid off once I tightened it up. Tempted to use old lid. It was harder better material.
Where the master cylinder screw on to bracket I tapped the holes with 5/16 -18 tap. Use a starter tap or you will start in crooked. The old one was already threaded. I suggest you start your brake line to cylinder before you bolt it on. The short metal brake line will be hard to start otherwise. When you put your brake away lever on make sure you have it in front of the cylinder push block. It's a bit fussy holding the clip, lever and bracket to keep it in front. When you install shock extend it all the way out. Hook it in back. Make sure you have it lined to with spacer rollers on each side. Also make sure .875 pin goes through all three pieces inside. The rest is easy.
I have speed bleeders. I bled it but haven't tested out brakes yet. Hope I have brakes. Hope this helps someone else

This MC worked very well on my 86 Dico Toybox. I did have to swap out the mounting plate with the old one because it was slightly different, but that only took a few moments and then everything bolted up just fine. Held up for the rest of the life of the trailer, about 2000 miles of hard driving.

by:

The product was exactly as described, it took less than 15 mins to change out the old master cylinder
Very happy with my purchase!

  • Troubleshooting Installation of Titan Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly T1777401
Titan Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly # T1777401 for their model 6 drum brake actuator is shown in the linked review video. If you watch the video you'll see that when our reviewer handles the master cylinder the push rod assembly only travels a very small distance, perhaps 1/4-inch. If you have bled all air from the reservoir, lines and brake assemblies themselves and you do not have hydraulic pressure reaching the brakes I suggest you check that the system is filled with the recommended...

  • Are T1777405 and T1777401 the Same Master Cylinder for Titan Model 6 Actuators
No. The Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly for Titan Model 6 Brake Actuators - Disc # T1777405 and Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly for Titan Model 6 Brake Actuators - Drum # T1777401 are two different parts. Disc brakes require a higher pressurization to actuate than drum brakes do, so it's likely they may look the same but the pressurized components are rated differently. If you have a disc brake actuator then you'll want to use the specific # T1777405.

  • Do I Clean Or Replace The Master Cylinder on a Titan Model 6 Actuator That is Full of Rust?
I would start by checking the condition of the Master Cylinder # T1777401 on your trailer. Using the manual activation method which I have included a image for you to understand this will check to see if the O-rings inside your master cylinder have become damaged from the rust/corrosion inside the master cylinder. If you can apply manual pressure to the brakes and the board stays in the same place with equal pressure then you will be able to clean and reuse your current cylinder. If the...

  • Comparing The Titan Master Cylinder Assemblies For Model 6 Brake Actuators
The difference between the Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly for Titan Model 6 Brake Actuators - Drum # T1777401 and the Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly for Titan Model 6 Brake Actuators - Disc # T1777405 is psi compatibility. The master cylinder for disc brakes requires 1600 psi for proper function. Drum brakes only require 1000 psi.

  • Replacement Master Cylinder for 1972 Calkins Boat Trailer with Drum Brakes
Out of the available options it does appear that the Model 6 actuator's master cylinders, # T1027100 or # T1777401, are the best and pretty much only options for you. On your master cylinder that additional fitting could be a port for a reverse lockout but either way the new one will not have that on it. We have a few individual parts for some master cylinders but no rebuild kit for the Model 6.

  • Can the Master Cylinder for Model 6 Drum Brake Actuators Part # T1027100 Be Rebuilt
The Master Cylinder for Model 6 Drum Brake Actuators part # T1027100 has very few replaceable components therefore a rebuild kit is not available. If you are looking to rebuild the entire actuator then I recommend using the Replacement Master Cylinder Assembly part # T1777401 as it comes with the same master cylinder listed above in addition to the mounting plate, push rod assembly, and a few other components. If you need any specific replacement parts then please let me know and I would...

  • How to Convert a Drum Brake Actuator Titan Model 6 to a Disk Actuator
If you remove or puncture the metal check valve from your current master cylinder you will essentially have a disc brake master cylinder. What you will need to do is remove the large snap ring from the front of your actuator where the brake line attaches, pull the spring out, and at the end of the spring there will be a metal check valve. If you remove that check valve and reassemble the brake assembly without it you will be ready to use disc brakes. Or a less invasive way is to puncture...

  • Solution for Jerking Brake Application of Titan Model 6 Actuator
What you described sounds like a bad shock in the Titan model 6 actuator you have. For a replacement you would want the part # T1242600 which is a confirmed fit. Actuators shocks are designed to slow the movement of the actuator so that you don't experience the jerking that you described. When they go back they allow the actuator to move too quickly which causes what you described.

  • Replacement Master Cylinder Recommendation for Titan Model 6 Drum Actuator T4079200

  • Will Removing Check Valve on Master Cylinder Keep Brakes from Engaging When Backing Up
Removing the check valve from the master cylinder for hydraulic drum brakes, like part # T1777401, enables it to put out a greater psi rating so that it will be compatible with hydraulic disc brakes that require the higher psi rating. If you are mechanically inclined and you carefully reassemble the master cylinder then you can remove the check valve. However, if you are less mechanically inclined then it would be better to replace the drum master cylinder with a disc master cylinder,...

  • Replacement Master Cylinder for Titan Model 6 Brake Actuator
We do indeed have the replacement master cylinder for your Titan Model 6 Drum Brake Actuator available with part # T1777401. If you happen to need the disc brake model the correct part is # T1777405, I have attached a short video review that you can check out as well.

  • Model 6 Trailer Brake Actuator Compresses but Does Not Extend
The shock should compress when force is applied but then extended out again when no force is on it. It sounds like you have identified a faulty component. There may also be some debris that is causing it to not extend back out but given that the unit was used it is probably in need of replacement. Chances are that other components are equally as worn so I would look closely at the master cylinder as well. If it is in need of replacement then use # T1777401 for drum brakes or # T1777405...

  • Bleeding Trailer Brakes and Air Bubbles Won't Stop
If the air bubbles aren't ever stopping that indicates that air is getting introduced into the brake lines. Most likely through a bad master cylinder but since we know yours is a new part # T1777401 that would make me think that most likely you are leaving the bleeder open before releasing the master cylinder which is basically allowing the lines to suck air back in. Pressurize the system, open the valve, close the valve, release pressure.
