Hello, neighbor, Steve here with etrailer.com. Today we're taking a quick look at a replacement cap nut that's made out of zinc. So folks, this cap nut fits a 5/8 inch diameter roller shaft. You get quantity one. And again, 5/8 diameter roller shaft. Overall, this guy is right at 1 1/4 inches, give or take on the outside flange.

Purchased this for my air compressor wheel axle. I couldn’t find this size at multiple stores where I live. Searched on etrailer, ordered them, and received them quickly. Air compressor now has new wheels and are firmly in place.

Had hand truck with 5/8” axel. Lost an axel cap moving lawn & garden debris bags. Checked Lowe’s & Home Depot hard-to-find hardware trays to no avail. Largest size was 1/2 “. Found your company on Internet while searching “axel caps”—it was among first to pop up! Ordered a bag of extras as I know eventually I will lose another! Thanks to etrailer, I found the right sized axel cap—and I don’t even own a trailer!

I have 6 keel roller and i fish alot is salt
they broke which is normal
i replaced rubber roller and needed the caps to finish off
i order rubber keel roller from you befere the project
didn't remove boat from trailer just locked toung to truck and bottle jacked boat very carefully then added 6 x 6 wood , piece of cake

Exactly what I needed. Last year, I bought a [trash can] from [hardware store]. It's a fantastic product, but it uses 5/8" pal nuts to hold the wheels on the axle.

When one became dislodged and lost, my trash can was out of commission. A trip to [hardware store] and [industrial supplies company] was unsuccessful, and [trash can brand] only offered entire wheel kits for their products. etrailer saved the day by carrying these and selling them in small quantities.

I needed to replace a wheel on a recycling container and this nut was the EXACT replacement part. A Harbor Freight wheel and this nut were the low cost repair and had me rolling again quickly. Shipping was very quick and allowed tracking.

can't figure out why 3 axle capnuts couldn't be mailedto rosebud,mo. directly. instead package left st.louis area,went to Kansas city,back to st.louis and then to rosebud. thank goodness it was free shipping. other than that , yes they are axle cap nuts.

My hand truck lost it's friction fastener that keeps the wheel on the axle. This inexpensive, but highly functional, fastener solved the problem.

It was very nice of you to supplier the missing part. But from my end ,I have to pay $3.50 USD to pick up across the border. Can't help to wonder would it be cheaper just sent it by regular mail to my Canadian address for such a small item. Next time please confirm a more reasonable shipping method for a small item.

I looked in all the usual places for a simple part; a 5/8" axle cap for a two wheel dolly. No one had anything bigger than 1/2". Even on the net, I did come across one other source but you had to but quantity. So I was very happy to find etrailer. I got the part in a couple of days. The price was very reasonable. i'll keep them on my list for future searches.

How to Install Boat Keel Rollers When Replacing V Bunks on Trailer
It looks like you are on the right track. I would use the Universal Roller Brackets, # MBSPB, that you mentioned along with a 8 inch Long Keel Roller, # DL21712, a 5/8 inch Steel Shaft, and two pal nuts # CE10801. All of this is dependent on your trailer having and 8 inch area that the brackets can be installed in and adjusted for the roller to contact the keel of the boat. Hi Alex, To remove the spool so you can install mounting bolts all you have to do is remove the pal nut, pull out the pin, and then remove the roller. Once you've installed the bracket, reinstall the pin and roller with the pal nut/cap nut. If you're careful the cap nut won't be damaged, however, if the cap nut gets damaged in this process you can use the Replacement Cap Nut 5/8" part # CE10801 to replace it. What Would Cause a Pal Nut to Fall Off of Roller Shaft of Keel Roller
Hey Peter, generally the pal nuts on the end of the roller shafts hold the shaft tight enough that they don't just pop off unless something possibly hit it and damaged it. Vibration is not known to allow them to pop off so I would assume this is more of a fluke situation than anything else. For replacement pal nuts we have the part # CE10800 for a 1/2 inch diameter shaft or the part # CE10801 for 5/8 inch diameter.

The measurements for the 1/2" Cap Nut # CE10800 and 5/8" Cap Nut # CE10801 are referring to the cap portion. The correct cap nut will be the one that has the corresponding diameter of your roller shaft.

Most boat trailer bow and keel rollers do use pal nuts like # CE10801 to secure the rubber roller to the support shaft and mounting bracket. From your photo I cannot tell quite what type of set-up you have. Since most of our rollers use galvanized mounts like # CE10403G and the others shown on the other linked page it may be easier and safer to install a new roller bracket.

It sounds like you had a pal nut like # CE10801 come off. Have a helper get a piece of lumber like a piece of 2x4 and hold the end of it up against the pal nut on the other side of the roller. A lot of people use the rubber end cap # DL21558 but I would prefer to use a pal nut myself because it seems more secure to me since rubber is more pliable than metal. I would just trust a pal nut more. Go with a pal nut # CE10801 for a 5/8 inch diameter shaft.

To give you an idea how much length of a shaft the # CE10801 takes up the part # CE10401G is a roller assembly that holds a 5 inch long roller and the shaft length is overall 6-1/4 inches. The recommended way to secure wobble roller is to use wobble roller retainers like the CE Smith Wobble Roller Retainer Ring # CE10981. We do have 1/2" replacement cap nuts just like the CE Replacement Cap Nut # CE10801 that you referenced. The 1/2" diameter cap nut is listed as part # CE10800 on our site.
