MB Sturgis Propane Fittings - 100473-20-MBS

  • Hoses
  • Pigtail Hoses
  • 1/4 Inch - Male NPT
  • Type 1 - Female
  • MB Sturgis

Pigtail makes the connection from the propane tanks on your trailer to the propane regulator. Also used to connect tanks to a high-pressure regulator to carry gas to a 2-stage regulator. Check valve prevents hazardous backflow leakage.

Features:

  • Propane pigtail connects your propane cylinder to a regulator
    • Used for single or dual tank setups on the front of your travel trailer
    • Also used to connect a remote tank to a high-pressure regulator
  • Female Type 1 fitting connects to the valve on your propane cylinder
  • Male NPT connects to a propane regulator
  • Built-in bypass mode shuts gas off when flow reaches maximum capacity for safety
    • Thermal shut-off device turns off gas flow in extreme heat caused by open flame
    • Excess-flow safety device limits gas flow in the event of a severe leak
  • Durable thermoplastic hose and brass fittings approved for LP gas only
    • Rated for high pressure and high flow rate to handle unregulated propane
    • UL569 and ANSI Z21-81 certified
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Temperature range: -40 F to 140 F
  • Hose dimensions: 20" long x 1/4" inner diameter
  • Hose fittings:
    • Female Type 1
    • 1/4" Male NPT
  • Maximum pressure rating: 350 psi
  • Maximum flow capacity: 450,000 Btu per hour
  • 1-Year limited warranty

This propane hose is ideal for travel trailers with a split-tank system. This kind of system features 1 cylinder on the driver's side and 1 cylinder on the passenger's side of your trailer. This hose connects the cylinder on the passenger's side to a high-pressure regulator. An additional hose (sold separately) will then carry the propane from the high-pressure regulator to the 2-stage regulator on the driver's side of your trailer.

Bypass Mode for Safety

This Type 1 connector will go into bypass mode if the flow rate surpasses the maximum flow capacity for this connector, which is 450,000 Btu per hour. A ball inside of the fitting will push an internal spring down, pressing firmly against the bottom of the fitting to shut off the flow of gas.

When choosing a Type 1 connector, consider your overall propane demands and choose a connector with a flow rate that just exceeds it. That way, you won't trigger the bypass mode during normal use, but it will trigger in the event of a leak. If the bypass valve engages, stop using gas and start checking your connections for leaks.

Previous pigtail hoses were 10 years old, and shot. Bought these- they are a couple of inches longer than the older ones, but- worked great. Did have to tighten them up pretty good before I stopped smelling propane, but- probably more a function of me not using the yellow thread tape. May unscrew these and put the thread tape on them. But in any event- work great!

David

Still working great. Did use yellow thread tape for a solid connection. Would buy again

I have purchased two of these and they both failed the same way. They are supposed to have a back flow preventer so you can disconnect one tank and refill it while leaving the other tank on. In both case, when disconnected from the tank, the gas leaks from the other tank. I am looking for a functioning alternative.

Hmmmm, this could be due to your regulator. I do not see any information of your set up in the notes on your order. Can you please provide pictures of your set up? If your regulator is not lowering the PSI, then it could be blowing out the check valve in the hose.

Wayne T.

@KatrinaD The third one I put on worked as it should. Now I can disconnect a tank for refill and not have to turn the other tank off to prevent leakage. These are designed to have a “backflow” preventer in them to prevent leakage when disconnected. The others apparently malfunctioned but all is good now.

@WayneT Glad to hear it worked out. Hopefully the defective check valves did not cause you too much of a headache. We will definitely keep this in mind going forward. Thanks again for taking the time to share.

We were traveling and one of the High-Pressure regulators on my RV went bad - it was leaking noisily (sounds like a high-pressure hiss). My 5th wheel has two 30 lb tanks, one in a compartment on the driver's side and the other on the passenger side. Respect the dangers of propane but it was easy to replace. I have ordered many RV and trailer parts from etrailer in the past and was never disappointed. etrailer had the parts and delivery was fast - they are great. Be sure you get the right pressure regulator (mine was 30 psig and required 1/4" inlet and 1/4" outlet. The hose or outlet might look big, but these are 1/4" ID. I also needed the hose from the regulator to the propane tank. Be sure to get the right hose as they come in a variety of lengths and different pressure ratings (identified with a Black, Light Green or Dark Green knob) that connects to the propane tank. Apply 3 or 4 turns of yellow Teflon tape to the threaded end of the hose before inserting into the pressure regulator. Don't use white Teflon tape, which is for plumbing; yellow tape (etrailer 37207-30025) is thicker and is for propane. Install the pressure regulator correctly. The little ring on the outside edge of the pressure regulator must be installed pointing toward the ground. The installation took about 20 - 30 minutes. Don't forget to test for propane leaks. Respect the dangers of propane.

Good quality hose. Perfect replacement for my old degraded hoses (one was leaking). Bought the longer 20” hose to allow for a loop to reduce stress on the hose crimp connection where old hose leaked.

by:

Purchased as a replacement for the recalled LP regulator on my travel trailer. Easy to install and they work perfect!

Still working great!

by:

the hose and the regulator with the gas tape was installed. We are now safe in our 5th wheel from a propane leak. I had to get a neighbor to help as I didn't have enough hand strength to get fittings tight. etrailer helped me get all the right parts to make this happen.

Great fittings were exactly what I wanted

by:

I bought these so I could mount the propane tanks on my trailer with the valves facing outward. Now they don't drag on the tank cover.

by:

I bought one years ago and now I bought another one. I am having good results.

OK Here we go, I have been dealing with ETRAILER for many many years .They are my go to parts company for all my rv ( MH and TT ) items I need. I run an RV park at the entrance to Death Valley National Park in Nevada I deal with 1000 of RV ers a year of which some need parts.or information I recommend ETRAILER and I follow up with them because I want to know how things worked out for them after all it was on my word they went to ETRAILER, and i,m from the old school folks where a persons word is everything. Not one person had anything bad to say about ETRAILER and they thanked me for telling them about them .So if your in a spot give them a call they will work with you..Just plain good people there. Perfect fit for my trailer propane bottles. Great customer service. Responded very quickly to my inquiry on delivery tracking.

by:

Looked to be quality replacement LP hose, installed, leak checked, no leaks. Note to etrailer, in one of your answers to Q&A you state to use white Teflon tape on fittings. You need to change that, white is not compatible with propane, it should be yellow (some blue is if so labeled).

by:

Just entered make and model of my trailer and searched for propane fittings. Picked the one I wanted, and it was shipped quickly and fit perfectly.

by:

Fit just right and no problems so far.

by:

Quick shipment so thanks for that. I installed it today and it does not leak so far. Just what I needed to fix my RV.

by:

Very easy to use website. I found my part quickly and it arrived quickly. Would definitely order again.

by:

Added GasStop valves on my Air Stream and needed longer pig tail hoses due to limited space. Ordering on line was easy, delivery was timely, and they fit as expected.

by:

Original short hose kinked and cracked. This hose fit perfectly. Simple replacement. No extra fittings needed.

Ronald

3/11/2023

Working perfectly. No kinking, no cracking, no leaks. Exactly what l needed!

by:

Easy swap out and no more leaks.

by:

Initially had purchased pig tails made by a competitor, but had not installed them. After reading reviews of MB Sturgis's product I returned the previously purchased hoses and installed the Sturgis pig tails. The Acme fitting and hose crimps seem to be of much higher quality Quick shipping from etrailer!

by:

  • Does Sturgis Make Pigtails for Natural Gas Tanks?
I went ahead and called my contact at MB Sturgis, and they confirmed that the pigtail hoses that are listed for propane tanks can be used with natural gas tanks. However, one thing that is important to know is the measurement of the diameter of the tank that you are seeking to fit. This is because different hoses fit different measurements. The MB Sturgis Propane Hose w/ Back Check - Type 1 # 100473-20-MBS, for example, 1/4" diameter tank fitting. If you know the diameter of your tank...

Great news! I spoke to my contact at MB Sturgis and he informed me that 32F should not be an issue for the propane flew supply hose # 100473-20-MBS. These types of flexible hoses are intended to be used with an ambient temperature range of -40F to +140F. But to just remember when cold, they do become a little stiffer and should not be bent at too sharp of a radius.
