Individual Rotating Cradles

Swagman XP 4-bike Hanging-Style Rack Anti-Sway Cradles

The Swagman XP has cradles that secure your bikes by the top tube, down tube, or seat tube. Each cradle rotates to ensure your bikes hang level on the rack, reducing the risk of ground clearance issues. You can also adjust the spacing of each cradle to help keep your bikes from bumping into each other.

Swagman XP 4-bike Hanging-Style Rack Anti-Sway Cradles

Soft rubber padding inside each cradle protects your bikes from scratches and scuffs. The padding has grooves on the surface that prevent your brake and shifter cables from getting pinched.

Easy Tilting for Cargo Area Access

Swagman XP 4-bike Hanging-Style Rack Tilting

The rack tilts down without your bikes loaded. This means you won't have to remove the whole rack to access your cargo area for grocery runs and other errands.

Swagman XP 4-bike Hanging-Style Rack Lower HitchSwitch Lever

To tilt the rack down, pull out the pin above the base of the rack, lift the mast out of the groove above the pin, and lower it. When you're ready to go, lift the mast up and re-insert the pin.

Threaded Hitch Pin and Hitch Adapter

Swagman Titan threaded hitch pin

A threaded hitch pin is included to help eliminate rattle in the hitch receiver during transport. It fits the threaded hole at the end of the shank. To tighten the pin in your hitch, use a 5/8" wrench (not included). Clips are also included to keep each pin in place.

Swagman Titan 2-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Hitch Adapter

You can install the rack in a 1-1/4" hitch or in a 2" hitch. To use it in a 1-1/4" hitch, simply remove the adapter with the included Allen key.

Bike Security

Swagman Titan 2-Bike cable lock

A lock on the hand knob secures your bikes to the rack. Once locked, the hand knob will spin freely so a would-be thief can't operate it.

Swagman Original threaded hitch pin

An anti-rattle hitch lock (sold separately) is available to secure the rack to your vehicle.

Available Adapter Bar

Swagman Bike Adapter Bar

If you have a women's bike, kid's bike, or any other bike without a straight, horizontal top tube, you will need an adapter bar (sold separately) to properly mount your bike. The bar fits between the seat post and handlebar stem post of your bike to create a top tube so your bike hangs level on the rack.

I truly appreciate the follow up. To make it plain and simple, my family is incredibly excited to own this product.

Your team did an incredible job walking through the right product as I could not find a custom hitch for my BMW X6 cross over SUV and you guys nailed it! From the hitch, to the bumper I had to get replaced, it works like a charm!

I have been and will continue to recommend your company and staff! Top notch professionals if you ask me!

I love the bike rack itself, I only have 1 problem the first lock that fastens down with the key does not work. It’s really hard to grab and spin, my father worked on it for quite some time and was frustrated. I was wondering can you send me a regular twist down handle like the other 3? I don’t need the key lock, or send me a new one with the key lock since this one is defective? Other than that its great, we just got it on my vehicle last night but I cannot use the very first bike clamp. My sister in law is asking how I like it because she wants to get one too, no worries I will tell her its awesome, I understands there are flaws and I know you will hook me up with a new clamp. I will post a great review once I get my new clamp.

by:

Well built, holds two bikes well. Would like to see a threaded locking bolt at the receiver end to lock to hitch.

by:

This item arrived within 2 days. Everything was included as advertised and was in good working order. Instructions for assembly were easy to follow. Would definitely order from etrailer in the future.

Nice bike rack....just wished it would have come with a normal size hole for the standard size hitch pin. I had to order a hitch pin with a key for security.

by:

I'm very satisfied with it, received in good condition. Haven't used it yet. Still winter here.

Comments
Was used a lot this past summer. Worked great. Took a little time to figure out how to hook up bikes the best way, but once I figured it out. Smooth and secure!

Pretty good product. We still have trouble with the locking mechanism, but it might be user error. Also, I thought it would be sturdier, but it seems to sway quite a bit when we are driving.

by:

fits perfect in my hitch. plus like adjustable cradles to accommodate my grandchildren bikes.

See my other review for the hitch I ordered. Everything came on time, and the service was great from Goeff! Helped me out a ton and got me what I needed. Not installed yet, but barring any issues, everything was great!

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

I hate this bike rack. For a heavy is at it, 40 lbs, it is junk, wobbles and moves around like crazy. If you need an overpriced boat anchor, this will fit the bill. Better to cut the rope when you leave it. Terrible tolerances. I bought the chincy locking ring they want to sell you and it did absolutely nothing. Don't put a nice bike on it because you'll be sorry. Honestly I try to avoid etrailer whenever possible at this point. Why can a hitch fit well but this is really undersized and the fit it terrible

Comments
This rack is definitely an economical choice but not the best quality. I have a style of this rack and I have to make sure I tighten down the bolt that comes with bike rack in the hitch to make sure it doesnt wobble all over the place. If you dont tighten it down with a wrench it will wobble.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

So far, so good. I just received this last week and installed it on the back of my fifth wheel. We have four bikes (2 adult bikes and two kids bikes), and fitting all four of the bikes on the racks took some creativity but it was possible. The rack seems very sturdy, but we will see if it stands the test of time as we are full-time RVers who travel about 6,000 miles per year. Our last bike rack (Swagman XTC4) was completely worn out after about 14,000 miles of use on the back of our fifth wheel.

Comments
After one year, this bike rack is still performing very well on the back of our fifth wheel. We have travelled over 5,000 miles with our bikes in tow, and it still looks and operates like brand new. I was able to make four full-size bicycles fit on it, but you have to be creative.
B. B - 09/24/2015
How is your hitch fastened to your fifth wheel?
-- comment by: Richard N - 01/09/2016
In response to Richard N., we had a 2 hitch receptacle installed on the rear of our fifth wheel when we ordered it from the factory. The bike rack is installed by sliding it into the hitch receptacle.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

Once again, etrailer's service was superb. The hitch arrived very quickly, packaging was in good shape when it arrived.
I chose this bike rack because it was one of only a few that are rated for a hitch on the back of a fifth wheel trailer. It is very sturdy and was easy to assemble. As reported in other reviews, the only issue was the threaded clamp knob that secures the bikes to the rack. The one with the lock on it came through with a defective lock mechanism that does not allow the knob to engage. That meant it could not be tightened. Swagman might need to re-evaluate this feature.
I like the idea of the lock, but it is probably better to use the regular knobs without the lock to mount the bikes and then use a bike cable lock to secure them to the vehicle.
I have no concerns about the racks strength or durability.

Comments
I have been using this bike rack for a year now, almost always on long distance travel between campgrounds around the US. I have been very happy with it. It rides well and the bikes remain very secure in transit.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

TERRIBLE!!!!! Absolutely terrible!!! First off, the main support does not fit well into the hitch sleeve. The threaded hitch pin does not secure against any movement whatsoever. I had to hammer shims into the gap so the unit would not rock back and forth inside the female hitch port. Without the shims you get to watch your bikes in the Furrion camera rock back and forth for 400 miles at a time. The clamp sleeve just barley secures even the most basic bike frame construction. Most current bikes do not fit in the 4 clamps. I had to modify the top slots where the "T" nut swings into place and bend them down to use the threaded hand wheels. Not to mention that the "T" slot bolts are way too short. Prepare for frame and paint damage on your bikes. Good luck placing the bikes back the same way after securing them. Full on engineering disaster! It will take you 45 mins to load up all 4 bikes each time. If you have a quick 1 day stop you can forget taking the bikes off. Told my kids it was too much trouble undoing the puzzle. All the bikes are pointed all over the place like crooked teeth!! Total and complete piece of junk!!!! If I could give this no stars I would. Avoid at all costs.

Comments
For your first issue I recommend getting a wraparound Anti rattle device like item # e99007
etrailer Anti-Rattle Hitch Stabilizer for 2" Hitches - Vinyl Coated Steel
$22.84
which helps to reduce sway and keeps the racks stinger from moving around inside the hitch receiver. As mentioned in the product description for this rack, it accepts bike frames up to 2 inches in diameter. If you have a step-through bike frame or childrens bikes it is recommended to get a bike frame adapter like item # 64005
Swagman Bike Frame Adapter Bar - Small - 22-1/2" - 30" - 35 lbs
$35.00
. Other tips that help with this rack is alternating the front of the bikes, putting the biggest bike closest to your vehicle, while the smallest bike is the furthest out, and using the included strap to tightly secure the bikes to the rack like as shown in this attached video:

The service from etrailer was awesome.
I
ordered on a weekend and yet by Sunday night I had an email saying the product was shipped. On top of that the shipping was upgraded at the same cost.... FREE!
The Bike Rack is great. Went together easily and is very heavy duty.
The only problem I have and it was anticipated is that my bike frame is not round, it is oval shaped and it barely fits into the gripper. But as I said I expected it to be close from the product description.
This rack should give me many years of service and I highly recommend it and etrailer!!

Works great. No problems at all.Glad i made the purchase. The service etrailer provides is excellent.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

This was the only bike rack that I could find where my daughter's bike could fit on it securely and without adding a bar. The rack is very stable and is easy to put on and off of my car as needed. I'd like to add that my neighbors have owned this same rack (just an older version) and their rave reviews caused up to research the Swagmann brand. Additionally, e-trailer has been great with communication. Very pleased.

Comments
One year later and we are still so glad we bought our Swagmann rack. The ease with how I can put it on and off is wonderful and I use the locking function frequently to keep my bikes safe!

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

I've never been so frustrated with a bike rack until now. I have 5 kids bikes, none of them can fit on this thing. Either the bars on the bikes are to fat and you can't close the clamp or the frame is to small to fit over the bottom bracket. I bought the deal that clamps on the handle bars and bike seat for kids bikes, that thing doesn't work either.

It's not just kids bike, my beach cruiser won't fit on the thing, the frame bars are apparently to big to get the clamp closed.

So much wasted time spent on this thing..

Comments
If youre looking for a different style bike rack to transport a wide variety of bikes, one great option at a similar price point is the Lets Go Aero BikeWing T4 # B01458
Lets Go Aero BikeWing T4, 2+2 4-Bike Rack - 2" Hitches - Folding - Horizontal Wheel Mount
$300.03
because it is adjustable enough to fit kids, womens, and alternative frame bikes without the use of an adapter bar. Another great option, though at a higher price point, is a rack like the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE4 # HR1400Z
Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE Bike Rack for 4 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount
$599.99
as it holds your bikes at 3 points and offers adjustability to support kids, womens, and alternative frame bikes.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

Great rack--very solid and great for a variety of bike sizes/shapes. I had to grind a bevel on the end of some of the pins to make it easier to insert them, and I had to chop one of the mounts down (see pic) to allow mounting of our tiniest bike (a Woom 3), and to allow our second-tiniest bike (a Cleary 20") to go over the mount to be mounted in the second position in.
There's no other rack I'm aware of that would allow us to haul these five bikes around--this has been great for us, and I'd absolutely recommend it.
-1 star for the directions with pictures so small that there might as well not be pictures at all--it's absolutely impossible to tell what's happening in the diagrams, which fortunately doesn't matter much, as it's all fairly obvious. Except for the threaded 1/2" pin--I still have no idea what that's for . . . maybe some cars have threaded trailer mounts.

Comments
One year in, still working wellits a tight fit and always a bit of an elaborate ritual to get all five bikes mounted, but this rack gets the job done, and Im still not aware of anything else that can do what it does. Figured out what the threaded 12 pin is for, tooit threads into one of the mounting holes on the rack and actually holds it a good bit more solidly than the other pin.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

I purchased the Swagman because I needed a bike rack that was rated for a travel trailer and would take my bike plus three girls' bikes. It took me hours to figure out how to make it work, but I finally got it. It's hard to use and you have to take all the bikes on and off in order. I've since seen better and more easily use-able bike racks and ones that adjusts to fill your tow receiver better (reducing sway). The knob with the key doesn't tighten down or work very well. So I had to place it on an inside bike, allowing me to tighten down the outside bike with the non-keyed knob.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

I bought it primarily to use it on my camper to haul the kids bikes when we go camping. It was a little harder to assemble than I expected it would be but the reason is because you have to position each holder individually for each bike. That slight down fall makes it nice though because each bike will be properly positioned and secured for travel. I bought the model with the factory lock, I'm glad I decided on that model. I'm also glad that it has the anti rattle feature especially going on a camper. The bike rack even works with a spare tire mounted right next to it.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

After several uses this bike rack has held up very well. I like it's versatility, you can adjust the clamps to work for any style of bike. My only complaint is the locking clamp. When it is locked it can still be unscrewed and when it is unlocked it is difficult to unscrew.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

Well we just tried out the swagman 4 bike hitch this weekend and overall it worked well. We used it on our 2009 flagstaff tent trailer which had a factory installed receiver hitch on the back. We had no problems at all however that being said the hitch does not work really well with bike wheels over 26 it just does not leave enough clearance from the road to the tire. Other than that I would recommend this hitch for use with a tent trailer.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

Purchased this after reading some of the other reviews and Q&A on etrailer - i hadn't thought about the fact that how the crossbars on the bike are configured makes a difference - 3 of our 5 bikes wouldn't have fit on a two bar bike rack because the openings are two small (I ended up measuring them before selecting a rack). I still ended up having to use the adapter for one of them which works great. Installation was easy (I had uhaul put a receiver hitch on my 2012 odyssey the week before) - you do have to pull a pin on the bottom of the rack when you tilt it, which some might consider an inconvenience compared to some of the other brands that just have release levers, but i view it as less stuff to break compared to those racks. If you're going to have it on a lot and park in a garage, consider the fact that it doesn't collapse because it does add significant length to the vehicle. 5 bikes are definitely doable if you set it up correctly. I think its the most versatile rack you can get based on the way it holds the bikes and would definitely recommend.

Comments
i actually just put it on again this morning - we love it, i think the only thing i would say is that i wish there was some way to keep it a little tighter in the receiver hitch. the bolt tends to loosen after a bit of driving - nothing unsafe, just makes it sway and bounce a bit more and needs to be retightened.

  • Can Swagman XP - Folding 4 Bike Rack Be Used In a 2012 Ford Focus Class I Hitch
Your Class I hitch has a 2 bike maximum. The hitch and bike rack manufacturers all agree that no more than two bikes should be carried on a bike rack used in a Class I hitch. The weight of the additional bikes can be a problem, but the greater issue is that when additional bikes are placed in the rack, the load is moved away from the receiver tube. As the distance becomes greater, so does the amount of leverage applied to the receiver and the attachment points between the vehicle and the...

  • Solution for Towing Jayco Tent Trailer And Carrying Four Bikes with 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor
I can't recommend using an extender, because doing so will reduce the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by half to 175 lbs. If you have the 3 bike version, then you will use the Replacement Top Plate for Hidden Hitch Bike Rack # SP-102 if you have 5 inch measurements on center for the padding. For just the knob if you want to keep a spare on hand, you will need part # P1004. If you have the 4 bike, you will use the Replacement Top Plate for Swagman Original Series 4 Bike Carriers # P113. This...
