I love the bike rack itself, I only have 1 problem the first lock that fastens down with the key does not work. It’s really hard to grab and spin, my father worked on it for quite some time and was frustrated. I was wondering can you send me a regular twist down handle like the other 3? I don’t need the key lock, or send me a new one with the key lock since this one is defective? Other than that its great, we just got it on my vehicle last night but I cannot use the very first bike clamp. My sister in law is asking how I like it because she wants to get one too, no worries I will tell her its awesome, I understands there are flaws and I know you will hook me up with a new clamp. I will post a great review once I get my new clamp.

Nice bike rack....just wished it would have come with a normal size hole for the standard size hitch pin. I had to order a hitch pin with a key for security.

This item arrived within 2 days. Everything was included as advertised and was in good working order. Instructions for assembly were easy to follow. Would definitely order from etrailer in the future.

Can all four bikes be locked??
-- comment by: Chris - 09/22/2013

Only one of the 4 knobs needs to be lockable. Use it on the outermost bike. If a thief cannot remove the last bike, he cannot remove the others. Remember, if using an adapter bar, the bike cannot be secured by locking the cradle. A cable lock will need to be used in that case.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

This was the only bike rack that I could find where my daughter's bike could fit on it securely and without adding a bar. The rack is very stable and is easy to put on and off of my car as needed. I'd like to add that my neighbors have owned this same rack (just an older version) and their rave reviews caused up to research the Swagmann brand. Additionally, e-trailer has been great with communication. Very pleased.

Comments
One year later and we are still so glad we bought our Swagmann rack. The ease with how I can put it on and off is wonderful and I use the locking function frequently to keep my bikes safe!

So far, so good. I just received this last week and installed it on the back of my fifth wheel. We have four bikes (2 adult bikes and two kids bikes), and fitting all four of the bikes on the racks took some creativity but it was possible. The rack seems very sturdy, but we will see if it stands the test of time as we are full-time RVers who travel about 6,000 miles per year. Our last bike rack (Swagman XTC4) was completely worn out after about 14,000 miles of use on the back of our fifth wheel.

Comments
After one year, this bike rack is still performing very well on the back of our fifth wheel. We have travelled over 5,000 miles with our bikes in tow, and it still looks and operates like brand new. I was able to make four full-size bicycles fit on it, but you have to be creative.

How is your hitch fastened to your fifth wheel?
-- comment by: Richard N - 01/09/2016

Comments
In response to Richard N., we had a 2 hitch receptacle installed on the rear of our fifth wheel when we ordered it from the factory. The bike rack is installed by sliding it into the hitch receptacle.

The rack is reliable and strong. We have made several long trips with 4 and 5 bikes. Never have to worry about a strap breaking on some models, the metal bracket and screws are strong. Happy with our purchase.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

Once again, etrailer's service was superb. The hitch arrived very quickly, packaging was in good shape when it arrived. I chose this bike rack because it was one of only a few that are rated for a hitch on the back of a fifth wheel trailer. It is very sturdy and was easy to assemble. As reported in other reviews, the only issue was the threaded clamp knob that secures the bikes to the rack. The one with the lock on it came through with a defective lock mechanism that does not allow the knob to engage. That meant it could not be tightened. Swagman might need to re-evaluate this feature. I like the idea of the lock, but it is probably better to use the regular knobs without the lock to mount the bikes and then use a bike cable lock to secure them to the vehicle. I have no concerns about the racks strength or durability.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

Great rack--very solid and great for a variety of bike sizes/shapes. I had to grind a bevel on the end of some of the pins to make it easier to insert them, and I had to chop one of the mounts down (see pic) to allow mounting of our tiniest bike (a Woom 3), and to allow our second-tiniest bike (a Cleary 20") to go over the mount to be mounted in the second position in. There's no other rack I'm aware of that would allow us to haul these five bikes around--this has been great for us, and I'd absolutely recommend it. -1 star for the directions with pictures so small that there might as well not be pictures at all--it's absolutely impossible to tell what's happening in the diagrams, which fortunately doesn't matter much, as it's all fairly obvious. Except for the threaded 1/2" pin--I still have no idea what that's for . . . maybe some cars have threaded trailer mounts.

The service from etrailer was awesome. I ordered on a weekend and yet by Sunday night I had an email saying the product was shipped. On top of that the shipping was upgraded at the same cost.... FREE! The Bike Rack is great. Went together easily and is very heavy duty. The only problem I have and it was anticipated is that my bike frame is not round, it is oval shaped and it barely fits into the gripper. But as I said I expected it to be close from the product description. This rack should give me many years of service and I highly recommend it and etrailer!!

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

I have ordered several items thru etrailer and have been very satisfied every time. This product is very solidly built and should easily support the weight. I got this one because it is simpler with less joints that could fail. If you plan on carrying adult mountain bikes I would suggest getting the 5 bike rack for 4 bikes. I can barely fit my families 4 adult size mountain bikes on here and I also found it impossible to get the bikes on and off with the water bottle cages on the bikes. So if you don't mind taking those on and off before transport then I would recommend this rack.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

I've never been so frustrated with a bike rack until now. I have 5 kids bikes, none of them can fit on this thing. Either the bars on the bikes are to fat and you can't close the clamp or the frame is to small to fit over the bottom bracket. I bought the deal that clamps on the handle bars and bike seat for kids bikes, that thing doesn't work either. It's not just kids bike, my beach cruiser won't fit on the thing, the frame bars are apparently to big to get the clamp closed. So much wasted time spent on this thing..

If youre looking for a different style bike rack to transport a wide variety of bikes, one great option at a similar price point is the Lets Go Aero BikeWing T4 # B01458
Lets Go Aero BikeWing T4, 2+2 4-Bike Rack - 2" Hitches - Folding - Horizontal Wheel Mount
$300.03
because it is adjustable enough to fit kids, womens, and alternative frame bikes without the use of an adapter bar. Another great option, though at a higher price point, is a rack like the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE4 # HR1400Z
Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE Bike Rack for 4 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount
$549.99
as it holds your bikes at 3 points and offers adjustability to support kids, womens, and alternative frame bikes.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

The bike rack is not as great as I thought it would be. Its super hard to get our bikes onto . Even with tightening, the cradles move around the post. Even as spaced as far apart as they can go, there still isn't enough room to easily open the cradles to get the bikes on/off. Its really hard to tilt down to get into the back of our van. I'm pretty bummed about the purchase as it was a big expense for our family of 6 where both parents lost jobs due to Covid. We thought we'd take the kids on more bike rides with our extra time, but so far the bike rack has been more trouble than it was worth.

This is very well made and strong.it Holds bikes very securely.USE: This is on my 5th wheel hitch had no issues. The only Con: is it wont fit most if the beach cruiser thick middle tube framed bikes..and/or the female low curved frames. Very good product. Etrailer also kept me informed on delivery status every step of the way-well done etrailer.

Hi Regan, Thanks for your feedback! In regard to your thicker bike frames, this bike rack fits bikes with frames up to 2 inches in diameter. I would recommend using the Swagman Deluxe Bike Frame Adapter Bar, part # 64005

$29.98
, in order to fit your bikes onto the bike rack.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

I will describe the few issues first: 1) the bike rack does not fold down. It tilts away from the car, but it doesn’t fold down when in use. So, the giant bar is always sticking out from your vehicle unless you remove the hitch. 2) the weight limit is 100 lbs total. For 5 bikes, this is typically NOT enough. My kids bikes (20”) are 20 lbs each, my bike is 30 lbs. 3) cross check the price. Prices from Swagmans own site are better than listed here. So I did price match. The construction is sturdy enough and the clasps look good, but we returned for the first two issues above.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

Purchased this after reading some of the other reviews and Q&A on etrailer - i hadn't thought about the fact that how the crossbars on the bike are configured makes a difference - 3 of our 5 bikes wouldn't have fit on a two bar bike rack because the openings are two small (I ended up measuring them before selecting a rack). I still ended up having to use the adapter for one of them which works great. Installation was easy (I had uhaul put a receiver hitch on my 2012 odyssey the week before) - you do have to pull a pin on the bottom of the rack when you tilt it, which some might consider an inconvenience compared to some of the other brands that just have release levers, but i view it as less stuff to break compared to those racks. If you're going to have it on a lot and park in a garage, consider the fact that it doesn't collapse because it does add significant length to the vehicle. 5 bikes are definitely doable if you set it up correctly. I think its the most versatile rack you can get based on the way it holds the bikes and would definitely recommend.

Comments
i actually just put it on again this morning - we love it, i think the only thing i would say is that i wish there was some way to keep it a little tighter in the receiver hitch. the bolt tends to loosen after a bit of driving - nothing unsafe, just makes it sway and bounce a bit more and needs to be retightened.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

After researching the multitude of bike racks available, Pat at etrailer spent over 30 minutes with me on the phone answering my questions about which would be the best rack for our SUV and our particular bike styles. We settled on the Swagman XP 4-bike rack. The cradles are adjustable and be rotated so that the wheels of any bike can be kept parallel to the ground regardless of the angle of the bike frame. It worked as advertised, and I can 100% recommend etrailer as a very reliable source. The people there are interested in helping you, and they deliver. Great company!

Comments
Still perfect. Our bike trip last July to Montana and Idaho was a great test of the Swagman bike rack. We had four bikes totaling 80 pounds and had absolutely no issues. With the U brace keeping the rack base tight against the hitch, there was no wobbling at all. A great trip was made better by having the peace of mind provided by a sturdy rack to safely transport our bicycles. Thank you etrailer!

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

Overall (structurally) it is very well made and appears very sound. However, have 2 comments regarding potential improvements; i.e.: 1) Recommend having the anti-rattle nut feature for the 2" hitch attachment being included at both holes (as shown in the assembly directions included with our bike rack). The one that we got, only has the threaded attachment (anti-rattle feature) at the outer most hole on the 2" square tube. To use this feature, you don't get much hitch engagement, but if you use the inner hole (with more hitch engagement), you have a standard 5/8" pin with lots of play (excessive vibration). 2) Do not recommend the Locking Knob as currently provided. During assembly, we tested it by tightening it down, but could not remove it (even with the key). We needed needle nose pliers to remove, and when disassembled found that the internal locking spindle can lose contact with locking portion when tightened. Since we cannot trust this locking feature, we have ordered two new non-locking knobs; i.e. one for replacement and one as a spare. We also ordered a better locking design to avoid this problem in the future.

Comments
I spoke with my contact at Swagman and they confirmed that this rack is designed to only have the hitch pin hole closest to the upright mast threaded for the anti-rattle pin. If you are not interested in having two hitch pin holes or locking feature built into the rack, the Swagman Original # S64400
Swagman Original - 4 Bike Rack for 2" Trailer Hitches
$204.34
or Yakima RoadTrip # Y02477
Yakima RoadTrip RV Bike Rack - 4 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Black
$229.96
are both comparable bike racks you may be interested in. A locking cable like the Deadbolt 10 Foot Long Cable Lock # CAB-10
Deadbolt 10' Long Cable Lock
$29.87
is great for securing your bikes to your vehicle.

Very good bike rack. We got it to hold all 5 of our bikes when we go camping. We've only put 4 bikes on at one time. I dont know if 5 bikes could even fit on it. It might have to be arranged just perfect to fit all five.My daughters bike is small enough we put it in the truck box. So for now it works perfect.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

First I want to say etrailer is top notch with customer service and support. The Swagman XP bike rack is sturdy and held up well carrying beach cruisers behind our fifth wheel. Solid product. I did check the pin bolt as others have said they may loosen during travel. After 1000 miles it did start to loosen but I make it part of my pre trip checklist and check it when I stop. The roads were very rough riding. Works exactly as expected. Great product and fantastic customer service.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

We have not got to use this bike rack yet. We fitted it to our Rav 4 and are very happy with the tight fit. The rack is very well built and sturdy. Passes the spare tire on the back of the Rav with plenty of room to spare. Also it appears to have plenty of clearance at the bottom of the rack. Our last rack fit loosly in the receiver and the bike moved quite a bit. Hopefully this one will reduce the bike movement. Also it does not tell you on the site that we could find but this rack may be used for 1, 2 or 3 bikes.

Comments
we have a rav 4 with the swing door 2009 and the spare in the case. We also have a trailer 2 receiver on the rav does this rack work well for our application ?
-- comment by: Guy S - 06/15/2014

You will need to measure the distance to the from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer edge of your spare tire cover. This will tell you how much clearance you will need for the Swagman Bike rack to work with your vehicle. If this measurement is less than 13-1/2 inches this bike rack will work great for you.

Review from a similar XP in Hitch Bike Racks

Bought this to take the bikes for my family of four on vacation and I have only used it three times in the last 12 months, the most recent just a week ago. I remain completely happy with my purchase. The ability to angle the brackets allows me to easily fit our 4 bikes (adult male, adult female, 12 yr male, 10 yr female). My wife's bike fits okay without an adapter, but my daughter's bike required a bar adapter since the space between her frame would not fit over the brackets. One thing to note, to get my wife and sons bikes on, I have to remove the brackets for the bikes in front of them. Don't be stubborn, just do this. I scratched the frames putting them on the first time without removing the other brackets, and it ended up taking longer fighting them on. This is because of the way her bike frame is built and his is simply smaller. I am considering buying the bar adapters for them as well just to avoid having to remove the brackets, but we don't really use it enough yet to purchase them. My bike, with the wider frame, goes on quickly and easily. Tip: Take a picture of how you fit the bikes on! It will save you having to figure it out again the next time.

  • Can Swagman XP - Folding 4 Bike Rack Be Used In a 2012 Ford Focus Class I Hitch
Your Class I hitch has a 2 bike maximum. The hitch and bike rack manufacturers all agree that no more than two bikes should be carried on a bike rack used in a Class I hitch. The weight of the additional bikes can be a problem, but the greater issue is that when additional bikes are placed in the rack, the load is moved away from the receiver tube. As the distance becomes greater, so does the amount of leverage applied to the receiver and the attachment points between the vehicle and the...

This will replace both the top and bottom inserts for 1 cradle on your bike rack. I have attached a video review for you to look at so you can make sure this is what you are needing. For the complete Cradle Assembly, you can use # 64860 and if you just need the top plate for the cradle, you can instead...

  • How to Tow Jet Ski Trailer While Carrying Four Bikes on 2012 Honda Pilot
Your best bet would probably be a dual receiver like the # MT70070 you referenced. Keep in mind that using the dual receiver will lower the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by 50 percent. This means that the tongue weight of the trailer, plus the weight of the bikes and rack could not exceed half the tongue weight figure mentioned on the sticker placed on your hitch. I'd recommend going with a bike rack that offers an angled shank with more ground clearance like the Swagman XP part...

  • Replacement 2 inch Hitch Adapters for Swagman XP Bike Rack and Curt Cargo Carrier
The only way we offer the 2 inch adapter for your Swagman XP # S64960 is with the replacement shank part # P315. Since Curt does not have replacements available for their shank adapters you'd need a sleeve adapter like the part # HT02 and you'd be set.

  • Pulling a Pop-Up Camper and Using a 4-Bike Hitch Mounted Bike Rack Behind a 1999 Dodge Caravan
Depending on the size of the bikes and how many you intend to carry, turn clearance may become an issue, especially if the tongue of the trailer is relatively short. There is another method to tow and use a bike carrier that will provide some more clearance and reduce the chance of the trailer hitting your bikes. You could use Curt Multi-Purpose Ball Mount, part # D210. This will set the bike rack up another 4-3/4 inches, plus you can use a standard hitch mounted bike rack that you...

  • Solution for Towing Jayco Tent Trailer And Carrying Four Bikes with 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor
I can't recommend using an extender, because doing so will reduce the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by half to 175 lbs. This would be insufficient for the weight of the bike rack, the weight of the bikes and the tongue weight of your trailer. Unfortunately, I don't have a solution that would allow you to use your current rack. I would suggest using a similar rack with a longer shank, part # S64940 in conjunction with a multi-purpose ball mount # D210. As long as the weight of...

  • Recommended Bike Rack to Use While Towing a Camper on a 2013 Ford F-150
I have a solution for a bike rack that you can use with your Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount # D210 on your 2013 Ford F-150. We do have a few different bike rack that have a rise in the shank that you are looking for. I test fit 2 different bike racks with the same setup that you would have on a trailer that has a latch that, when in the upright or unlock position, was 4-1/2 inches in high. The Swagman Titan # S63410 that you referenced did not have enough clearance to allow the 4-1/2...

  • Wheel Hoop Length on the Swagman XTC4 Bike Rack # S64665 for Carrying a 16 Inch Toddlers Bike
The XTC4 Extreme Cruiser 4-Bike Cross Country Rack for 2 inch Trailer Hitch Receivers, item # S64665, has wheel loops that are 15 inches long and 2-1/2 inches wide so a 16 inch wheel and tire combination is going to be very close. if you measure the diameter of the tire and it is over 16 inches I would say that the rack will work but if it is less than 16 inches the wheel loop would be too large to support the tire. A better option for carrying 4 bikes might be the Swagman XP Folding...
