Video Transcript for All You Need to Know About the Socket Set

Ellen: Hey, everybody. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. We're going to be taking a quick look at the socket and ratchet set from Performance Tools. Now, this is kind of a beginner's tool set in that it comes with this packaging that's a little bit between packaging and a case. It's a little elaborate for just packaging, but it's a little bare bones for an actual case. I'm going to show that to you.

I don't normally show packaging, but since this, like I say, has a little bit more to it than normal. You could use this as a case if you wanted to. Let's take a look at it.To get this free, I needed to use a flat-bladed screwdriver to pop this open. There's a couple little posts that go through here. It's little push fasteners, basically, so a little flat blade screwdriver just pops those up.

Then this tab also clips through, so whenever you're first opening this, you want to lift up on that tab in the back. When I first opened this up, I ended up spilling out the sockets all over the place because I didn't realize that there was a tab there, so I forced it and it popped open and everything burst all over the floor. Don't make that mistake that I did.To get the ratchet out, we'll push the quick release, that red button, to get that out of its little spot. Then you can open this up. We'll have all of our sockets here.

We have our SAE and also our metric. You've got a pretty good assortment of sizes for a lot of different applications, a lot of different jobs that you might have. If you're putting on a bike rack or you're doing any kind of maintenance on your vehicle, these sockets are usually the ones that you're going to need.I'm not going to list out all of them just because you can find the whole list on our website, but we do get a nine, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, and 19. Then also, I guess I'll just list them, 5/16ths, 3/8ths, 7/16ths, 1/2", 9/16ths, 5/8ths, 11/16ths, 3/4, 13/16ths. Those really, again, are pretty much the sockets that you use all the time.

And even amongst those, you might find that you use one or two more than anything else.As far as how it's going to work, pretty self explanatory. We got that button on the back to be our quick release. That makes it easy to keep that socket on there whenever you're using it, but also to take it off whenever you're needing to switch it out or you're just ready to put it up for the day. The handle's pretty comfortable. It's kind of got this swell to it so it fits pretty nicely in your hand and gives good balance to it. There's also a little place for indexing your thumb, or maybe a forefinger on there to give you a little bit better grip. You can hear the teeth in there. That's a 72 gear teeth, so that gives you a pretty good indication of the quality of the wrench overall. Then to switch from one direction to the other, we've got that little sliding thumb switch. It makes it pretty easy to get things on or off. That's pretty much it as far as the case and the tools go. The sockets do have an etched-in label so you can see what size they are pretty easily, contrast nicely with the black. It's kind of like a silvery, almost like a pewter color. All in all. I think it should be a pretty nice set. Again, are you going to use this packaging as a case It's really up to you. If you've got a good spot for this to live, or maybe you have a drawer already with some tools that you're replacing, or you're just using this as a spare set, it's just kind of up to you. I at least wanted to show it to you, let you know that it's there if you want it. But If you want a different kit that has a more permanent case, we do have options for those available here at etrailer.com.Again, this put together and taken apart, it really isn't that bad. One thing I don't particularly like is that the ratchet does just kind of swing around. That's one thing to keep in mind, as well. But I hope this has been helpful in deciding this is the right tool kit for you. That's always our goal hereat etrailer.com is to give you the best information so you get the right part the first time. Again, I hope this helped.I'm Ellen with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.
