The DV-6s is great for standard-duty recoveries with your work truck, Jeep, or other off-road vehicle. It includes a mounting plate that slides into your 2" hitch receiver so it's super easy to install. It also has a convenient carry handle and a 6' battery lead with quick connects for fast setup and removal at the front or rear of your vehicle. The power unit can be remotely mounted, and the clutch handle can be rotated so the winch fits easily into tight spaces. It includes a waterproof, hand-held remote with 17' lead so you can operate it at a safe distance.
This winch includes a steel mounting plate with hardware and a pin and clip. This plate lets you install the winch in your front- or rear-mounted 2" hitch. It eliminates the need for a mounting channel, plate, or grille guard required to install most recovery winches on your vehicle. The winch and fairlead bolt directly to the plate, and the pin and clip secure the plate in your hitch.
The winch also includes a 6' battery lead with quick connects that allows you to easily connect and disconnect power from your vehicle to the winch. The battery leads can be left connected to your vehicle's battery when you aren't using the winch so it's easy to reconnect power the next time you use the winch.
A built-in carry handle helps you install and remove the winch from your hitch. It also makes it easy to transport to and from your vehicle.
The DV-6s features a 3.2-horsepower, 12-volt DC motor with 6,000 lbs of line pull. This heavy-duty, series-wound motor is more powerful and more dependable than a permanent magnet motor, and it generates more torque and dispenses heat more efficiently when operating at high speeds. It's constructed of durable, corrosion-resistant materials including the die-cast aluminum housing, steel drum, carbon steel motor tube, copper battery terminals, and carbon- and stainless steel hardware.
The contactor - or solenoid - transmits power from the vehicle's battery to the winch motor. The 250-amp contactor - located inside the power unit - is sealed for submersion in water or mud. The copper terminals and stainless steel and carbon steel hardware are corrosion resistant, and the motor leads have rubber boots for water resistance. The cables are color coded and printed with the AWG for easy installation.
The DV-6s has a free-spool clutch with a rotating ring gear that enables you to pull out the rope by hand. This saves battery power, prevents the brake from wearing down prematurely, reduces wear on the motor, and is much faster than waiting for the drum to unroll the rope. To release the clutch for free-spooling simply pull and turn the spring-loaded handle. To reengage the clutch, lift and rotate the handle back to the position indicated by the icon on the label.
The clutch is driven by a hardened-steel, 3-stage planetary gear train. This provides more speed than traditional worm gear drives or 1- or 2-stage planetary gear trains.
The gearbox can be rotated in 36-degree increments so you can reposition the clutch handle to an easy-to-reach location. This is great when mounting foot-forward on custom and in-bumper applications or on a vehicle with a small engine where space is extremely limited.
The rustproof, die-cast aluminum gearbox is sealed to keep out moisture, and it has a gray powder coat finish for corrosion resistance.
The automatic CBS (Cone Brake Structure) holds 100 percent of the load without unintentional rope payout (or creep). It has a cone-shaped wheel that presses against the brake clamp when there is a load on the rope. The greater the load on the rope the harder the cone-shaped wheel presses against the clamp. This pressure creates enough friction to slow and ultimately stop the drum's rotation.
The cone brake is located on the outside of the drum so the heat created from friction is kept away from the motor and the rope. This prevents potentially damaging heat buildup near the motor.
A hand-held remote with a 17' lead and In/Out rocker switch lets you control the winch from a safe distance. The remote is constructed of durable plastic, and it's sealed and waterproof so it won't get damaged in wet conditions. It has a built-in LED that turns green when you are powering the rope in or out and turns off when the winch is inactive.
There is a rubber-sealed plug on top of the power unit that houses the attachment port for the remote control. Simply plug the durable plastic remote into the power unit when you need to use it, and disconnect it to store it away when you aren't using it. The plug prevents water from getting into the unit when you are not using the wired remote.
The synthetic rope is made of 12-strand Dyneema SK75 fiber that is lightweight yet stronger than steel. This synthetic rope is safer to use than a steel rope because it generates less kinetic energy - and therefore less kickback - if a break occurs. It won't stretch - or creep - over time like steel rope can. It's also less likely to fray and create sharp strands so it's easier to handle and easier to spool.
The rope winds around a solid steel drum. The mounting flanges are strong enough to resist bending or breaking if the rope wrap becomes uneven and excess stress is put on the drum.
A 6', woven-polyester protective sleeve at the hook end of the rope provides extra protection for your hands. A hand-saver strap is also included to use in conjunction with leather work gloves (CU881558 - sold separately) so that you can safely handle the rope and hook.
The removable red hook is made of high-strength forged steel that is heavy duty and rust resistant. It has a spring-loaded safety latch for quick fastening and removal. The hook attaches to the steel thimble on the end of the synthetic rope.
The cast aluminum hawse fairlead is designed to be used with synthetic rope. The 11/16" thick fairlead has a black powder coat finish that resists corrosion. The fairlead hole is rounded to reduce friction on the rope when you're pulling it in and out. This helps reduce wear on the rope and keep it strong and functional. It attaches to the mounting plate with the included stainless steel hardware.
The DV-6s winch is constructed of strong, durable materials that perform no matter the weather conditions or terrain. The motor and gearbox housing are constructed of heavy-duty yet lightweight die-cast aluminum. The contactor is sealed to keep water out, and the lightweight, plastic power unit is ideal for mounting in remote locations. The steel tie-bars and side frame drum supports help to create a strong and rigid winch body.
Layers of Rope | Capacity (lbs) | Total Rope on Drum (ft) |
---|---|---|
1st Layer | 6,000 | 11.3 |
2nd Layer | 4,995 | 25.2 |
3rd Layer | 4,279 | 41.5 |
4th Layer | 3,742 | 60.3 |
5th Layer | 3,325 | 80 |
The line pull capacity of your winch is determined by the maximum load your winch can pull with a single layer of rope on the drum. As more layers of rope are wound onto the drum, pulling the same load requires more force, leading to a loss in winching power. With a 2nd layer of rope around the drum, your line pull capacity is reduced by approximately 14 percent. With 3 layers on the drum, the line pull capacity is reduced by approximately 23 percent, and with 4 layers on the drum it is reduced by approximately 35 percent.
Note: It is recommended that you begin any line pull with a minimum of 5 wraps and a maximum of 2 layers of rope on the drum.
To select the appropriate off-road/recovery winch for your application, determine your gross vehicle weight. The GVW is the stand-alone weight of your vehicle plus the weight of any items in and on the vehicle. Once you have determined the GVW of your vehicle, choose a winch with a capacity that is 1-1/2 times your GVW. Using that formula, this winch - with a 6,000-pound capacity - will work for vehicles with an approximate GVW of 4,000 pounds.
Percent Incline | Rolling Load Capacity (lbs) |
---|---|
Level Surface | 60,000 |
5 (3°) | 40,020 |
10 (6°) | 30,120 |
20 (11°) | 20,400 |
30 (17°) | 15,660 |
50 (26°) | 11,160 |
70 (35°) | 9,180 |
100 (45°) | 7,740 |
To calculate your winch's rolling load capacity - the amount of weight it can pull up an incline - you must multiply the line pull capacity by a factor determined by the degree of the incline.
The multiplication factors shown in the chart, right, include a 10-percent rolling friction factor.
Note: A 5-percent - or 3-degree - incline is a 1/2' rise over a 10' distance. Follow the chart to determine your winch's rolling load capacity.
Increase the pulling capacity of your winch by doubling up the rope with a pulley block (CU881079 - sold separately). Secure the pulley block to a tree saver strap (CU881662 - sold separately) with a bow shackle (CU881092 - sold separately) to provide a strong anchor for your double-line pull. Or use the 8-piece rigging kit (CU882068- sold separately) that includes everything you need for heavy duty recovery. Using double-line operation will approximately double your winch's pulling capacity.

Portable, standard-duty recovery winch lets you quickly and safely recover a stuck vehicle. Easy to install and remove with quick connects and mounting plate for 2" hitch. Integrated handle allows easy transport. Includes overheat sensor. For my purposes this has worked out well. It is relatively portable and I connect with a hitch on either the front or back of my Envoy. Well constructed and competively priced.
I’ve had this winch for a year and it has been great. I use it on my trailer for a race car. The remote takes a little time to a synch up and works as advertised. I would def recommend it.
Works flawlessly
Eric was very friendly, polite and eager to help me find what I was looking for, it is a Christmas gift for my husband and he made it very easy and smooth! Great customer service he gave me his extension and said if I had any questions to call, this is the way a business should treat customers very impressed!
It came on time and was packaged great. I am using the winch to load my race cars into my enclosed trailer. It is working very well. It is slow enough to make loading safe but fast enough to not take all day. I am very pleased.
I use it in my race car trailer it works great. The wireless remote works better than any one I have used.
This winch worked better than I thought it would. Mounted in a car trailer. The remote makes it very easy to control the winch and steer the vehicle.
Has worked perfectly. No issues after pulling my track cars onto my trailer around 75 times. I do notice fraying of the rope... Will probably need replacement pretty soon. Without the rope fray I would give it 5 stars.
We received our winch yesterday and installed it last night. The unit is just as described and we are very pleased with the product and service. We will not be actually using the winch for a few weeks but it does work well and the unit was easy to install and well built.
Thank you
This winch was easy to mount,it's easy to use and I couldn't be happier with it. No problems at all!! Plenty of power to pull my car on to my trailer.
We’ll made, works great

Winch was very easy to install.Winch was used for my 20 foot Maritime Skiff. Pulls the boat up on a trailer with no problem at all. Very pleased with the product
The winch is perfect for what I need in my new race car trailer.
This has been a great winch. We use it hard almost every day loading portable buildings. My only issues 1) I was led to believe it came with a remote control, it didn't 2) the hard wired control is giving us problems starting and stopping the winch.
Just received the Comeup DV-9S winch I ordered through eTrailer. Very happy with the whole experience with eTrailer and the DV-9S is truly a thing of beauty. Looking forward to installing it as soon as possible.
Install is fairly easy, small area to work with when bolting in. I decided to use 4 bolts vs. 2. If you do the 2 bolt it is quick and easy. Wiring it up, piece of cake. Works well, love the clutch to unwind. Worth it!
