Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at this Bulldog Winch Standard Series off-road wire rope winch. Now, this Standard Series recovery winch is going to let you pull your stuck vehicle out of the mud, the snow, water, or ditch and up steep inclines. This is gonna be perfect to use with your work trucks, jeeps, and other off-road vehicles. The rated line pull with a single layer of wire rope around the drum is 12,000 pounds static load and the vehicle recovery capacity is 8,000 pounds.
Now, this six horsepower series wound motor is going to give you powerful, fast and safe line pulling. The motor is more powerful, more efficient, and produces more torque than a permanent magnet motor. And the duty cycle for this is two minutes on and 15 minutes off. And the line pull at zero pounds has a line speed of 26.2 feet per minute, and the line pull at 12,000 pounds has a line speed of 4.6 feet per minute. This has an automatic mechanical brake that's going to hold 100% of the load while minimizing winch creep.
And the power unit here includes the contactor, the plastic housing, and all of the electrical wiring. A wiring kit is sold separately that will let you remotely mount the power unit if you want to do that. The sealed 450 amp contactor transmits power to your vehicle's battery, from your vehicle's battery rather, to this winch motor. And it is water and weather-resistant to IP67 specifications. Now, this does feature a rubber wireless or wired remote that you see right here.
It's handheld and it's gonna fit real nicely in your hand. This does have a 12 foot-long lead that's going to let you operate this winch from a safe distance. And as you can see, we do have weather-resistant switches here that are going to let you use this in virtually any type of weather conditions. The switch is going to allow you to power the load in and out and then you can switch this to the wireless feature if you would prefer to do that. And if you use this in the wireless mode, that's going to let you operate this winch from up to 82 feet away.
If you decide to go and use the wired option on the remote, I just wanted to show you where that lead is gonna plug into. So you'll plug the round end of the cable right there, and then you'll plug in this more rectangular part of the cable right into the bottom of the remote just like that. So it'd be very easy to use and it's nice that the remote has the option either to go wired or wireless. Now, this has an all-steel three-stage planetary gear train with a gear ratio of 265 to one, and that's going to provide increased drum speed and torque when compared with worm drives and one or two-stage planetary gear trains. Let me give you an overhead view real quick. And I just wanted to show you here that this does have a free-spooling clutch that's going to ensure fast rope payout and it's also going to reduce wear on the motor. And the gearbox can be rotated 360 degrees, so you can reach the clutch handle no matter where you mount this winch. Now, the three-eighths of an inch in diameter zinc-plated aircraft-grade galvanized steel wire rope is gonna be very strong and abrasion-resistant. It's 85 feet long and at the end here, will be this hook here. This is a three-eighths of an inch steel hook. As you can see, it does have a keeper and then this nylon hand saber strap. So that is all included. And the drum dimensions is two and a half inches in diameter and eight and 13-16th inches long. And this steel roller fairlead with the thick frame has these four rollers. It's going to reduce friction and wear on the rope. And the fairlead has a clear anodized finish, which is going to do a great job of resisting corrosion. The durable black powder-coated steel body and motor is going to do a great job of resisting corrosion and the Dacromet-plated motor tube is going to resist internal corrosion. So the motor is 12 volt DC and the battery lead length is six feet long. And just some overall dimensions of this winch, so you have a good idea of its size. Looking at the overall length from end to end, we're sitting pretty close to about 21 and a half inches long. The overall width of the winch itself about six and five-16th inches wide. And then the overall height from top to bottom, about 10 and five-eighth inches tall. This is a four bolt mounting pattern that measures 10 inches by four and a half inches. And if you're wondering about the total weight with the wire rope installed, we're sitting about 85 inches or so. Well, I think that's gonna wrap up our look today. I do hope that our overview was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy, thank you for joining me.

Power unit can be remotely mounted.I installed this in my Aerovault Car Trailer to winch cars in and out of the trailer. As it turns out customer service at eTrailer is slow (takes days) and the manual that this is shipped with is terrible -- its not only way too generic but there is almost no information included despite the multiple pages of legal warnings. It's not that I couldn't figure out how to install the winch or operate it but when I looked at the wireless remote it would have been nice to know (a) is it a replaceable battery; or (b) does it charge when attached to the umbilical cord it comes with when it is in wired mode. 48 hours later still no response from etrailer but it is a holiday weekend. And if you go to Bulldog's own website there is no manual either. This winch is just another example of the small things that eliminate a perfect review. Notably, the etrailer review is interesting but never mentions a thing about how the wireless remote is powered and, as I learned, basically follows the ambigous manual -- the reviewer offers nothing extra. The good news is that the winch looks like a good device and hopefully it will last better than the Harbor Freight winch (total junk) it replaced.
Used it mostly dragging logs around my property and one time to rescue a complete stranger who managed to run off the trail at the only place where it's not a good idea to leave the trail. No surprise, complete strangers have typically gotten more use out of my winches than i have. Very pleased so far.
Mounted 7800 pound trailer winch on my old jeep, wanted a narrow package that fit between the arms of the tow bar. Both winches drag both jeeps around marvelously!
Installed it on my motorcycle trailer. Install was a piece of cake! Does what it is supposed to do. 2000LBS capacity works like a champ loading and unloading my bikes.
Very heavy duty and a great deal from etrailer, thanks
Great piece of equipment. Will have local company install on the flat-bed utility trailer which is used to transport riding mowers and an occasional golf cart to shops. Will need to purchase battery and waterproof enclosure.
Thank you Lori. Everything went as planned. Very professional.
Was a pleasure talking to you
just got it mounted and wired! this 8000lb winch will get me out of the bog holes. worked perfectly first time I touched the remote. can't beat it. my hunting club members call when they bog down. they will be happy as I am.
Poor quality
First day working with the Bulldog Wench. It worked as advertised thus far without issue.. Unable to put it through proper trials due an inadequate wench plate. May have to fabricate one from 1/2" stock. The snatch blocks are first rate.
I picked this winch from etrailer as it provided an incredible value at the time of purchase vs other option here and from other retailers. It ended up being way overkill for what I use it for, but I never have to worry about overloading it either. Went together well and mounted up like it should to the Bulldog receiver mount I got too (hitch plate welded/mounted on car hauler, winch is removable and not subject to road grim ever). Plan on years of service from this combination!
Awesome winch. I use it on my trailer for my business to winch equipment on and never lets me down.
Worked well, only used them once but they worked as expected, plenty of power, as rated.
reasonably priced and quick delivery
Bolted to trailer that sits outside year round and never had an issue. Only down side is that I wish it was remote controlled or had a much longer cord. Would make it easier to load/unload by yourself. Overall I am very pleased with the construction and power.
We also bought the Bulldog off-road winch mounting plate for my husband's 2017 Toyota Tacoma. Everything fit perfect and installation was easy.
Faster than expected delivery, Thank you. Not yet sure about how I'll be using it. Interested in mounting and wiring information. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
I like etrailer, They worker hard to get me what I wanted. The product worked and still functioned. It is too bad it takes a long time to get things because the messed up market place today. The shipping of everything I have bought for the last 6 months from all companies looks like it was dropped off the truck from 6 ft high.
GREAT WINCH FOR THE PRICE-
I purchased a Bulldog 8,000 LB winch. It showed up early even with free shipping. Kim P was the customer service rep I dealt with. She's definitely an asset for etrailer.
Etrailer's price was much cheaper than any other place I could find it...not to mention the free shipping!! Job well done.
This winch is fantastic. Quick ship and great buy. etrailer never ceases to amaze me on their great deals.
Pretty sweet winch going to mount this on a trailer and really liked how easy it was to make it wireless
I bought two of these to pull a large 34’x100’ greenhouse. In tandem each were pulling at about 5-6000# of force to move the greenhouse. 100’. Worked great. No apparent durability issues and plenty of power, the price was right.
very happy with the winch and mount, instructions were easily understood and the finished product was all it was said to be. will continue to deal with this business as they are professionals.
A good winch not real heavy and can handle it quit easy
only using it to move boat/pontoon lifts and docks. Works great, more than enough power. Easy set-up and no problems.
