Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the Superwinch Tiger Shark Off-Road Winch with the wire rope, the roller fairlead, and an 18,000 pound rated line pull. Now, this is a heavy-duty off-road winch, it is designed for heavy-duty vehicle recovery applications, uses an extruded aluminum body with a nice black textured finish, so it's sturdy and corrosion resistant, and it does use the stainless steel tie-bars and hardware that adds strength and instructional rigidity to the body. Over here is a sealed 6.8 horsepower series-wound motor, delivers quick, safe line pulling, and it'll respond to an increase in load by slowing down and reducing the current to minimize the risk of overheating. Does also use an automatic mechanical brake, which will hold 100% of the load while minimizing winch creep. Over here, has an all-steel, 4-stage planetary gear box, the gear ratio is 345 to 1, it is a nice, rugged construction, so it'll deliver years of service, and it quickly and quietly turns the drum.
It does include a free spooling clutch, which will ensure fast rope payout, reduce wear on the motor, and it's very easy to operate. The chrome clutch handle right here has a stylish chrome plating on it for corrosion resistance, and if you noticed, it as a flip design, so it makes it very easy to tell when you're engaged or disengaged of the clutch. Basically, if you look at this handle, it'll say free, which means free spooling in this position, if you flip it back this way, it'll say engage, which let you know it's in the engaged position. It does use a sealed rotating gear box, so it lets you customize the position of this clutch handle for easy access to the handle. Basically, if you loosen these bolts all the way around here, you can move this every 30 degrees and then tighten it down, so you could put this handle where you need it for your application.
Now, this does include 90 feet of 1/2 inch diameter wire rope, which is very strong and durable. This mount's over an all-steel drum, it's specifically designed to handle the wire rope, and it does include this 1/2 inch sized latch hook, you can see it with the keeper on it, and it has a nice nylon hand saver strap on this. Now, the roller fairlead right up here, it is a stainless steel, 4-way roller fairlead, which will protect the wire rope from any damage by reducing strain and rubbing, the brushed finish on it resists the weather and the wear caused by any wire rope. Over here is a sealed contactor, this will transmit the power from the vehicle's battery to the winch motor. If you noticed in the back here, if I swing this around, you can see the battery wires, here's your red wire, there's your black wire, these are a 2-gauge size battery wire that hooks to your battery.
Now, this part also does include, right over here, this rubber handheld remote with a 15 foot long cord, and this will let you operate the winch from a safe distance. Basically, you use the toggle switch on the remote right here, it'll say in and out, and you just push it to the in or out position when operating it, and this does attach to the contactor. If you take the plug right here, pop open the cap, line the slot open, once it lines up, just go ahead and push it in, and now you're connected, ready to operate it remotely. And then when you're done, you can just pull it right out, put the cap back over there, and you're ready to go. Now, this does include the mounting hardware for installation, comes with a nice owner's manual.
Few specs on this, the rated line pull with a single layer of wire rope around the drum is 18,000 pounds, the vehicle recovery capacity is 13,000 pounds, the motor on this is a 12 volt DC motor, the line pull at zero pounds, power draw will be 70 amps, line speed, 19.7 feet per minute, the line pull at the full 18,000 pounds, the power draw will be 440 amps, and a line speed of 3.8 feet per minute. Weight on this unit is about 132 pounds, the dimensions, overall length, 23 3/4 inches, overall width, the widest point, is gonna be about 8 1/2 inches wide, and the total height at the highest point, 9 1/2 inches tall. But that should do it for the review on this Superwinch Tiger Shark Off-Road Winch with the wire rope, the roller fairlead, and an 18,000 pound rated line pull..

Haven't used winch yet but it arrived new, in box, in great condition
This winch is a beast! I haven’t had a chance to put it through anything rigorous yet, but I installed it and pretensions the rope. Very impressed with the quality of this winch, and Etrailer has the best pricing of anyone around, even Quadratec wouldn’t price match them when I asked! Thank you Etrailer!
Great winch. Well packaged, arrived at my home undamaged. Easy installation. Mounted very low in my ARB bumper. I ran a hard wired switch (not included) from the driver side A-pillar and still have the option of using the remote. Fantastic look and worked well when I needed it on the trail. Highly recommended.
This is a nice inexpensive winch from a Winch manufacturer . It's quite big and heavy and looks well made. I wanted to set up the biggest winch I could to be mounted to a receiver winch mount plate (Northern Tools model). With the synthetic rope, the weight of the winch and mount can be easily lifted by one person. I used the winch recently to lower a small 4000 lb mini excavator down some steep ramps and slope and to pull it back up when I finished the job. I have the winch set up to connect to a battery via 2 gauge quick disconnects (either with battery clamps, or direct to the battery screws), and ran it off a deep cycle battery no problem. I just bought the wireless remote, which will make the set up awesome. I welded on an additional plate to the winch mount, and then mounted the antenna. Don't know how long this winch would last sitting permanently in the front of the vehicle, but on a receiver mount and stored inside, it's certainly the way to go.
Fits perfect
