Features to know about

Installs Fast Without Cutting or Splicing: Plug-In Design

Wiring a trailer usually means guessing which wire goes where, but this harness skips all that. The Curt T-Connector plugs straight into the vehicle’s existing tail light connectors to give you a 4-flat trailer plug. There’s no need to cut or splice any wires. It’s a direct fit that keeps the factory wiring intact and lets you get the job done quickly.

Protects Vehicle Electronics: Powered Converter Module

The harness includes a powered converter that draws power directly from the vehicle battery instead of the tail light circuits. That setup keeps the vehicle wiring safe from overloads or shorts coming from the trailer. It’s the right design when you want reliable lighting without risking damage to your vehicle’s electrical system.

Keeps Trailer Lights Clear and Functional: 4-Flat Connector

Once installed, the 4-flat connector provides running light, brake light, and turn signal functions for most small trailers. You can route it out near the hitch for quick hookup or keep it inside to protect it from dirt and corrosion. Either way, you’ll have a clean, dependable connection ready for towing.

Simple Install in About an Hour: Straightforward Layout

With its plug-in connectors and clear wire routing path, installation is pretty straightforward. Most people can complete it in about an hour to an hour and a half. Once done, the harness is securely hidden out of sight, leaving only the trailer plug ready to use whenever you tow.

2014 Nissan Leaf
Overall very good. The instructions on the basic connections were pretty good however didn't cover the main pain point of running the 12 volt wire to the battery. Material to prevent chafing would have been a plus.

Insulated split crimps were a bit of a disappointment since in automotive and marine environments I prefer plain solid crimps due to their better compatibility with pin crimpers which are more secure and covered afterwards with marine heat shrink for a watertight seal.

On the Leaf I ended up running the 12 volt lead through the drain plug in the trunk and then removed the under-body panels to route it under the sills to the battery and ended up with only a few inches of wire to spare. I punched a small hole in the middle of the trunk drain grommet to run the 12 power lead through.

Note that the hook for the charging adapter bag is opened towards the front making its removal an unnecessary extra step so that detail could be eliminated from the instructions.

2014 Nissan Leaf
the car had a built in pocket to put the module near where the wiring harness plugs in on the drivers tail light and I routed the main battery positive wire from behind the glove box through a spare grommet already in the car.

Now that the kit is installed, it works perfectly. But the installation instructions are miserable. That of course is Curt's fault, not etrailer's.
To start with, the list of tools needed is incomplete. I needed a drill larger than the stated size (step 10), and several other tools.
Using Curt's instruction numbering:
1. The referenced photo is not as clear as it might be. All access is from inside the car. Do not try to remove the tail lights.
2. Do this as stated.
3. Do this as stated.
4. Remove the charger storage bag, but there is no need to remove the hook bolted into the floor of the car.
5. Remove the fasteners as shown, but they don't tell you that there are 4 more snap fasteners under the top of the scuff panel. Pry it up from the ends of the top.
6. My car did not have a sound system box.
7. My car did not have a cargo tie down fastener.
8. This is where things get serious. The side trim panels are held in place by numerous snap clips. Pull hard to get the back and top free. Let the panel hinge around its front fasteners; don't try to completely remove it.
9. Do this as stated.
10. I had to drill a hole. The stated 3/32" was definitely too small for the screw that came with my kit. Don't worry about paint; the screw will contact the drilled surface, giving a good connection.
11. This is the really hard part. Details below.
12. As steps 8 and 9 above.
13-15. Do as stated.
The power wire: The page headed Power Converter Lead Instruction Sheet has warnings about things to avoid and mistakes you should not make. But there is not a single word about where to route the wire, other than it has to get to the battery. Also nothing about putting in the fused lead at the battery end, although this is shown in the circuit diagram. My advice on routing: Run the wire out of the compartment where you have installed the controller, under the rear compartment carpet, past the driver's side seat hinge. Then under the sill protectors for the back and driver's doors, and work it under the door frame trim up to the bottom of the dashboard.
Now comes the hard part. I could not get a drill on any suitable flat part of the "firewall". After a great deal of hemming and hawing I used a 12" long 1/4" drill, from the front side, twisting it by hand and pushing it through the rubber protector where a large bundle of wires goes through the firewall. You have to do this close to the wire bundle so as not to hit metal. Then left the drill in place, pushing about 6-8" of it through. At the driver's seat I taped the wire securely to the drill, then sprayed it with soap solution as a lubricant. Back on the front side I pulled the drill out and the wire came with it, after a couple of failures. Butt connect your pulled wire to the fuse holder. And then be sure to connect the fuse holder to the positive battery terminal.

Kit includes everything you need. It's tricky to install (2018 Nissan Leaf SL), as you need to run a 12V wire all the way to the battery. Hiding the wire behind various interior panels is not too bad; poking a hole (carefully!) through the rubber gasket in the firewall, to get through to the engine compartment, is difficult. However, that's not the fault of the wiring kit. My only complaint is that the included double-sided tape didn't do a good job of keeping the wiring box in place.

The instructions were helpful, though installation had its challenges. Overall very satisfied.

Not so easy to install, itvtook my mechanic 3 hours!

Worth it in the end, everything works as expected and I have peace of mind knowing that this kit is "doing it right" for me Leaf.
by:
The T-Connectors worked as stated, great.Double sided tape did not work.
Running the power cable to the battery is a major task.
I ran it inside left under the trim panels.
There is a rubber boot encasing a wiring harness through the fire wall about 18" from the floor. I carefully drilled a hole to pass the power cable through. It sealed well and was inline to the battery.
This took me most of the day. Installation is successful.

2013 Nissan Leaf
Worked well and plugged right into existing plugs. Directions were just ok; getting to the battery in my car is difficult and there was little info on how to do this. The double back tape was dead probably from the kit sitting for too many years; maybe a plastic bag around that would have helped keep it sticky. I measured the device when unused and found it has parasitic power usage beyond what I am ok with (but not horrible.) So I piggybacked the 20A fuse for accessories which saved me the trouble of getting to the battery and turned it off when the car is off. so needs better directions -1 star.

I would route the power wire to the battery instead of using a fuse. Unless there is something plugged into the 4-way to draw power it will not drain the vehicles battery.

I used a fuse splitter nothing it plugs into will draw close to 20A. Running it to the battery is quite difficult and hardly documented. Still works fine. I didnt follow directions on cutting a hole in the plastic bottom panel, I cut a flap instead and made clips to hold it against the bottom of the hitch, this keeps it cleaner and more aerodynamic. I added this for fun and a trailer cover for those who have access to a 3d printer:

Product works as intended. Due to the needs for multiple connection points (both tail lights and a separate 12V source) it isn’t the easiest install, but it works well.

2005 Nissan Leaf
Harness kit looks to be of good quality, installation instructions are good although they leave the section about running the 12v to battery wire very vague. Install is best split into two parts, harness/converter install and the 12v to battery wire install. Read through the other reviews to best educate yourself before proceeding. If you have access to a vehicle lift, than IMO running the wire under the car is the easier option as opposed to running it through the interior. There is a rubber plug accessible from the rear trunk area, just to the passengers side of vehicle center (visible with mat folded forward) you can put a hole in to pass the wire to the exterior underside of the car. With the undercar belly pans removed (lots of plastic clips and 10mm bolts) you can route the wire cleanly up to the 12v battery. There was approximately 12" of excess wire that I trimmed off routing the wire this way. Installation was done on a 2022 Leaf.
by:
Nissan Leaf
This took far longer to install than the receiver for the nissan leaf. Be careful not to break your many plastic clips. You also need to run a hot line to the battery, so full length of the car. You can run it like a speaker wire along the bottom plastic of the doors, but I had to drill a hole in the metal to transition from outside the threashhold to the inside. There may be a better way but I did not find it. Unless your good at this kind of thing I would say do not attemp to install yourself, and even if you can do this type of stuff, be prepared to work a good few hours on install.
In the end works well, just wish it was a little easier, and that there was a better place to put the socket. There is no good way except hanging out the trunk, without removing the rear bumper and prob drilling some holes.
by:
Installation was easier than expected, and the instructions were mostly helpful. This product requires that you run a power wire from the battery in the engine compartment to the tail light wiring harnesses in your trunk. There are two key requirements to getting the job done: getting the wire through the firewall and routing it through the car. A few online clips from audio equipment installers helped me figure this out, but some guidance in the instructions would have been great. Long story short, you can run it through the main wiring harness grommet to get it through the firewall. For my car, this required that I puncture the grommet with a screwdriver, wire hanger, etc., and pull the wire through. Then I popped off the plastic interior trim pieces along the front and rear sill plates which allowed me to feed the wire into the trunk area. I also had to remove some trunk trim pieces. Most trim is easily pried off and pops back into position.

2012 Chevrolet Volt
Great product, installation instructions were pretty good. This harness requires a 12 volt line run from the battery in the front of the car. I was having problems getting the wire through the firewall, so I used a double-fuse tap off of the Leaf's fuse panel above the driver's knee. Worked fine.
by:
Amazing that they made a hitch for such a small number of Nissan Leaf's out there. If you own a drill and a few basic wrenches you can install this - super easy. Although I haven't had it in more than a month or two, it seems very well made and likely to last the life of the car. Excellent instructions for installation on Youtube!
by:
I put this in my Leaf and it worked great...little difficult to run the power to the battery in the front of the car but good wiring harness.
by:
The instructions alone are worth the price. The two e-trailer kits I've purchased have been well thought out and easy to install
by:
really simple to do better than just splicing into wires then soldering not to mention when renting a trailer, you know the line is made to fit all 4 wired trailers.
by:
Nissan Leaf
Little pricey but worth it. The hardest part on my 2020 Nissan Leaf was running the power line from the battery to the rear of the vehicle. Luckily my friend has a lift otherwise it would have been much more difficult. Other than that everything went very quickly and the kit included everything I needed.
by:
Looks good on the car. Only complaint is how long it took to install. Cost more to install than the hitch itself.
