Installation of Tekonsha T-One Connector

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies and some interior paneling to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the body harness up to your car battery and connect the wires per the included instructions.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once installation is complete, the 7-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 7-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a 2-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's 3-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Installation of Tekonsha Brake Controller Adapter

This adapter plugs into the 4-pin connector on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. The harness is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal.

This adapter requires no hardwiring. It is designed to plug directly into your electric brake controller for the simplest installation possible. Because there are no wires to connect, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time and securely stow it away.

Video Transcript for Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - TK22113 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Tekonsha OEM Replacement Vehicle Wiring Harness with the Brake Controller Adapter and the 7 Way Trailer Connector. Now, this is a custom fit part, it is designed to fit the 2014 to 2015 Dodge Durango and on any custom fit part I always like to recommend to go to our website. Use our fit guide, put in your year and model of vehicle and that'll show you if this will work for your application. Now, this complete wiring harness will replace a damaged 7-way RV trailer connector on your vehicle. The towing prep kit here, everything included, replaces the damaged factory 7 way trailer connector at the back of your vehicle. It will enable your truck to power your trailer signal lights. The T-One connector right here, one for each side, they just plug in to connection point that are located behind the tail light.

You unplug the harness from the tail lights, plug this in on both sides. The green is for the passenger side, the one with the yellow wire in it is for the driver's side. Then you'll run the body harness up to the car's battery. Connect it with these wires here to the battery using these fuses, in line fuse holders. The other end of this will connect to the 7 way to supply power to that 7 way.

Now, it does include this ModuLite tail light converter, and that's so I'm sure that your vehicles wiring will match that of your trailer. It also reduces the strain on the wiring system. Now, the wiring adapter right here, this is for the break controller. That's so ease installation of your electric brake controller. A custom connector will plug in to the built-in port right here.

That's underneath the dash of your vehicle, the other end will plug into the back of your electric brake controller. Now, this is compatible with the Draw-Tite and Tekonsha time-delayed brake controllers, and the Tekonsha proportional brake controllers. If you go to the product page for this part number, they're list the different part numbers that this will work on. Few specs on this harness, the maximum amperage for the stop and turn light circuits are just 4.2 amps per circuit. For the tail light, it's 7.5 amps total. It comes with everything showing here, it even has a nice set of detailed instructions with pictures of your connections, and describes how to install it. Just simply, we had mention how to install a brake controller adapter, but basically what you will do is the green wire key connector again would plug in behind the passenger side tail lights.

It has a white wire that you want to connect to a good clean ground. The T-Connector with the yellow wire in it is for the driver's side, you'll plug in behind the tail lights. There's two blue wires, an 18 gauge and a 12 gauge. There will connect to the body harness of the vehicle. Then again, this will run all the way up through the in line fuse holders to the battery connection points. The other end of these wires, they're all taped together now, they would connect to this connector and plug in to the 7 way. That should do it for the review of the Tekonsha OEM Replacement Vehicle Wiring Harness with the Brake Controller Adapter and the 7 Way Trailer Connector.

2017 Dodge Durango

The product was as descripted and prompt upon delivery. Works flawlessly with the 2017 durango gt. I installed the Mopar hitch at the same time as this wiring harness and it took longer then I had expected. I prefer not to use the wire taps so I removed some insulation from the signal wire in the hatch and twisted the blue wire around it. Wrapped it up with electric tape and called it good. For the front green signal wire above the passenger front wheel well. I didn’t want to expose that to the elements, so i chased it to the fuse block in the engine bay and back probed it there. This kit came with all the necessary materials needed, and of course use dielectric on the connectors for longevity. 607926

2018 Chevrolet Volt

I feel like the guys at etrailer are doing a great job at customer service, and go above and beyond as far as the videos they make for products they didn’t even produce. The original manufacturers instructions for this product leave a lot to be desired. Let’s start with the required tools list: Tester or Volt Meter (the instructions never reference it again, but it will be needed to find the correct green wire at the “vehicle body harness connection point”. Or even better, a picture of the wire behind the passenger front tire: (See photo of body harness connection point) When it’s time to run the 18 gauge blue wire through the “side cargo trim panels”, I couldn’t find a grommet underneath the vehicle that led up the side of the vehicle, so instead, I drilled a ¼” hole in the light pocket (see Figure-1 below), added a small rubber grommet, and using a fishing wire, pulled it up to the “door electrical harness” (see Figure-2). If you use the provided wire-tap, at this location, you will now need an extra one for the “vehicle body harness connection point”, as the kit only comes with one. Lastly, if you watch some of the videos, you’ll see they run the power wires up front, and into the engine bay, but don’t really show exactly where they come up, but it appears it’s right next to the exhaust (which would not be good). The instructions say to “follow existing wires/to post underneath hood”. Rather than connecting at the battery, I ran my wires through the grommet at the bottom of this area (see next photo), and connected to the Battery jump post instead. (See photo) This is a great product, and well thought out, it seems they (Tekonsha) could have gone just a little further on the instructions for those of us who don’t do this every day. 400990

Arrived on time with full very clear instructions for installation of everything. Only thing I was disappointed about was the brake controller had come out of the package during shipping and was just floating around on the box. Watched several of the installation videos before I even received the products. So very helpful. Keep up the great work 396363

I contacted the tech at Tekonsha and he confirmed that on the 2017 Dodge Durango the white wire with the orange stripe should be the wire you splice the 18 gauge blue wire (not to be confused with the 12 gauge blue wire) into while installing part # TK22113. I recommend to test the orange and white wire for function to be sure before you splice into it.
