Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Overall, the hitch is robust and installed properly. The final fit to the vehicle is perfect. There is proper clearance to the bumper and exhaust. Aside from having to slightly bend one area of the mounting to make installation possible everything went as planned. The installation instructions for the hitch and wiring kit were correct and helpful. The method provided to fish the fasteners thru the frame rails is awesome. The vehicle wiring kit was very well made and thought out. The fit and connections were perfect. Pic # 1 Side plates that fit over outsides of frame rails were not to spec at the front. The inside dimension was 39.75". The frame rails are 40.50 outside to outside. The front of the plates required some bending before installation. Pic # 2 I welded a 1/4" thick plate to an old Floor Jack to lift the hitch into place because I had no help. I then bolted the hitch to the plate. Pic # 3 Another view of the hitch mounted to the plate. Pic # 4 Shows the 2014 Escape on Jack Stands with about 2" clear under tires. Also shows how I set the hitch onto the floor jack using an overhead hoist. Pic # 5 Shows how to attach chains to the hitch for lifting with a hoist or chain fall.

This kit works perfectly. Install can be tricky but if you are not hurried and take your time it comes together. Took me about 4 hours because I am particular about where and how the wires are run and secured. I used hot glue to secure the power wire in place along the pinch weld where there’s no holes to use zip ties. This seemed better than drilling into the floor pan.

After reviewing the installation video my son and I installed the 75758 hitch and 118566 wiring harness on my 2014 Ford Escape. The install was very easy. Others review that stated to install the wiring harness first was spot on. That made installing the harness much easier. I am very pleased with how the hitch is only slightly visible.

The wiring harness has worked wonderfully for a whole year now and I expect it to continue on. The installation was super tricky though. In order to run the wires up into the driver sider break lights the panel of the car had to be pried apart to make the hole large enough. We also took the effort to run the wiring to the battery along the passenger side to avoid any heat damage as the direct path on the driver side would have come in contact heated elements.

Good product. However, there was no mounting bracket for the 4 Pin connector. I had to fabricate one so I could mount the plug to my hitch.

Best made trailer hitch on the market today, I put this trailer hitch on myself with the video on my iPad (easy step by step instructions). Took me a couple of hours to install hitch and wiring harness. Loved how it tucked up under my Ford Escape and all you see is the receiver end of the hitch. Use it today to haul a utility trailer and boat to my favourite fishing holes. Best value for a well built hitch. Thanks e-trailers for the speedy shipping (free by the way) and great product. Have recommended your product to everyone that asked where I got the hitch from. Thanks again. I am sure your product will last longer than this vehicle, and I know I will definitely order your product on my up and coming vehicle purchases.

Overall, this worked well and I probably saved myself $300-$400 over what the dealer would have charged. The driver side (yellow) wire setup was shorter than I would have liked. I didn't measure it, but it was so short it left me only one location to install the controller box. I would have preferred to put it somewhere else, but I was limited because that config was so short. The video that goes with this harness was very helpful, but as with everything, it's a lot harder to do that it looks. Routing the connectors up through the rear paneling was a challenge. The connectors are pretty big (they have to be) and the places to push them through are pretty small. Then, routing the power wire from the rear up to the battery while keeping it out of the way of the wheels, shocks, springs, and exhaust was another big challenge. It can be done, but give yourself some time to think it through and come up with a plan. Overall, I'd do this again. I'd rather save a few hundred and just deal with a little aggravation. I'm going to buy another harness from them soon for a different vehicle. Great company to deal with.

Hitch for 2016 Escape. Very easy install did not require modifications to exhaust. Toughest part was running wiring to battery mid-way under car. Video showing install was very helpful - how to best fish wires through subframe.

Everyone at Etrailer was extremely helpful and quickly let me know about the hitch that was on back order, and offered other solutions. I was set on this particular hitch (and was able to find it elsewhere), but Dena was very nice about changing my order to just the wiring harness and the ball mount kit. They arrived quickly, and all of the parts were were there, for a seamless install. A great company to work with, and I expect that I'll be ordering from them again. Thank-you!!

Delivery was quick and installation was only moderately difficult and took about two hours (would have been easier if car was on a lift). The hitch performs perfectly and came in very handy as I had to move in March and couldn't find a moving company due to COVID.

I liked it and was easy to install. I recommend installing it to a fuse box if you have one in the back of your vehicle over running the ground along the bottom of the car.

The wiring harness works great and is very reliable. Instead of routing the harness connector directly to the trailer, I connect it to a 1 foot Hopkins 4 wire flat extension (48145) and tuck the harness up and under the car. This keeps the harness connector protected from the weather. I'll then connect the extension to the trailer and only have to replace it when the end eventually corrodes. This harness is very well designed and the kit comes complete and ready to install. There's plenty of slack wire for any configuration as well. I will definitely buy again.

Love it. Took my car to base hobby shop and put it on lift. Followed youtube videos and it went on really well. Love how the trailer follows with the hitch. Also the wiring kit worked well. Happy customer.

This is a good wiring kit. However as others have pointed out, there is one wire that is too short and it's impossible to install it where/how the instructions recommend. It's also pretty tricky to run the power wire through the heat shield all the way to the battery. Honestly, if I had it to do over, I'd rather pay a shop to do this part. The hitch was a breeze to install, but I spent way more time and frustration on the wiring kit than I expected.

I had a curt system which stopped working correctly, as the running lights stopped. This kit was easy to install (except for one user error). To install, I clipped all the zip ties holding my previous kit main wire, then removed it from the battery. I taped the new power wire to the old and pulled it through. Super easy. Zip ties and secured it in place. Next, removed the old system and began installing the new. My error was that I ran the new wires too far to the left of the left rear light. I missed the fact that I should have ran them a few inches to the right to allow for easy passage up through the body and light area. This was clear in the video on the rear right install, but I missed it. Was able to get the right side installed super easy. Connected the fuse wire to battery, installed fuse, and bam, good as new. I had a shop so my first and offered little to no help on fixing it. Easier to replace system which I did. ETRAILER.COM has the best parts.

- 118566
by:

Still working strong, the wiring hasn't been an issue, I would recommend just making sure you cap the end of the harness connection when not in use to prevent corrosion, I do occasionally apply battery grease (dielectric) to the end. As for the install, fairly straightforward just need a long rope or zip to pull the wires up to the tail lights. The as for hooking up the entire module, I grabbed a ground from the frame with a self tapping screw and then spray painted over the screw and I grabbed power from the battery. That was the only annoying wire to run underneath the car.

I knew I probably needed this along with the trailer hitch I ordered for my 2015 Ford Escape. My dad and I installed it over the weekend. Shipping was very fast from the company and I was really happy about free shipping. This wiring is not a one hour project though, especially if you don't have access to a lift. You will definitely at least need a jack and two people. There wasn't enough wiring to put the converter box where we would've liked it, very tight. All in all, it worked and can't wait to use my vehicle for camping this weekend!

What you will want to do is test the wires going into the box of the converter box for voltage with a circuit tester like the # PTW2993 to see if there is voltage going into the box when the taillight functions of your vehicle are applied, and then test the output side of the box to see if the current is making it through the converter. If not then the problem is that the converter...

  • Parts Needed to Equip 2014 Ford Escape for Towing Small Pop-Up Trailer
According specs I've located online, the 2014 Ford Escape will have a 2000 lb towing capacity if equipped with the 1.4L engine or 3500 lb if equipped with the 2.0L. So it is best to measure if any one is not sure what they might have using the help article I have linked.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Turn Signal Not Working
I do have suggestions, and that will be a series of troubleshooting steps, though you definitely did the right thing by starting off by checking your fuse. In order to determine the specific problem you will need to purchase a circuit tester if you do not have one - the very handy Cordless Circuit Tester # PTW2979 would be my strong recommendation due to how easy it is to use - and test the connector on your vehicle after disconnecting it from your trailer. Check the wiring going into your...
