Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located inside your trunk, behind the tail lights on both the driver's side and passenger's side. You will need to remove some interior trim or carpeting to access the harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed within your trunk.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Thank you etrailer.com! Not only did the hitch I ordered arrive sooner than expected, it was super easy to install...in about 30-40 minutes. The wiring harness took a bit longer, but thanks to the "how-to" video, we got it installed perfectly, didn't break anything...and it works!! We did the complete install in our driveway, without any jacks. Luckily, I fit under the car with more ease than my husband and was able to thread the wiring just like the video showed. By the way, I'm a 64 year-old grandmother and if I can do this, anyone can. The hitch looks great and we are extremely happy with the entire process, from ordering to install. Thanks John, we will definitely recommend you and your product. 39802

Fit like a glove. Took me about 2 hrs to install. Hardest part was running the wire underneath the car. Since I had to pull tires off the car it was easier to run wire up to the battery with the tire out of the way. Thank you etrailer. Look forward to going camping pulling my trailer. I will be buying more products from you. 655377

This has to be one of the easiest trailer wiring kits available. I installed it in less than 2hrs in my driveway. Excellent directions and vids supplied by etrailer.com. 163490

The product is solid and the video instructions for both the hitch and wiring was absolutely helpful and easy to follow. It is a sure fit for my vehicle. The time it took me to finish the install and wiring is o/a 2 1/2 hrs. And it is because I did not have a lift or a maintenance bay to go under the vehicle. 664541

The wiring harness was simple with a couple exceptions. If you are not familiar with removing trim panels be sure to watch the video first. Makes it a lot easier to know where the attachment points are. Also, the black wire (it should be red) that goes to the battery is a pain. I had planned to run it thru the firewall. After removing numerous panels and routing the wire to the front driver's side, I discovered it was not really feasible to pass thru the firewall. So started over and ran it underneath. Use a lot of wire ties to secure the wire. Jacked the driver's side up with a 3 ton floor jack for easier access underneath and used jack stands for safety. Everything looks and works great. 554793

Hitch was quickly and easily installed. Took me only minutes. The brake module took a little longer. I have been a mechanic for 42 years. I popped the interior panels and ran the hot wire to the battery behind the panels and secured to the OEM harness. Sprayed the wire with silicone and slid through the firewall grommet. Then connected to the battery. Pulled a trailer from Oklahoma to Maine and back. Zero issues. 863171

My product arrived earlier than expected and the packaging was protective and all intact. The Curt Hitch Includes everything you need for the installation. Right out of the box you can feel and see the quality. It is a bit heavy so I suggest a helper when you’re ready to lift it up and install the bolts. The installation video was awesome and it even used my year/model Nissan Rogue so everything it showed underneath my vehicle was accurate and there were no surprises. The video suggested tying off the muffler and on my model, and I didn’t need to. All in all, the install was much simpler than I expected and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. The Tekonsha T-One wiring kit (ordered separately) includes everything you need for the installation, down to wiring connectors and zip ties. Quite impressive. I can’t say enough about the quality and thoroughness of the etrailer installation video. It used my exact vehicle so there were no surprises. I used my iPad, watched the entire video to get a feel, and then used pause and play as I proceeded. The only challenging part for me was running the included 12v wire underneath the body frame to the battery. It was an adventure but I got it done. When I was done, the trailer lights lit up and I couldn’t be more pleased, with the product and the support. Thank etrailer for your excellence. Pretty rare these days. 827478

Excellent and easy to install. Though running the power cable was a bit much but I got it in just fine. I also ran the power cable in the car rather then underneath as it will not corrode overtime. I work for a body shop so taking trim panels off was easy to do. And I ran the plug under the car along the wire harness for the key fob receiver and to the bumper so more easier accessible. 821573

The hitch is very sturdy and easy to install. The instructions are clear, although I think they can be improved slightly: 1) The underbody panels are there for a reason. The one on the passenger side can be reattached without a problem. The one on the driver side needs to be cut to fit after the hitch is installed. I used the right one as a template/guideline to cut the left one. Unless the hitch is installed only temporarily, it is better to reattach those panels even if one of them has to be cut. 2) There was no need to remove the exhaust. I found it easier to rest the hitch on wooden blocks and fasten one side at a time. 3) It was very hard to fasten at 86lbft, given the awkward position. The wrench kept falling out of place at around 70lb-ft. The hitch design could be changed adding a vertical bracket to fasten with horizontal bolts as well (the same way the towing plate was attached). This way, it would not need to be fastened so tight. and the hitch will be even more secure. 4) Regarding the design. The bottom part sits too low and I am worried it can hit something. A slight change in the design could remove around 3/8" of the plate that extends past the square pipe. My guess is that the excess is there to make welding cheaper/easier, but it could be welded to the edge of the plate without compromising its strength. 819122

The wiring harness has performed flawlessly. I just move it the other day from the car I installed it in last year to a new car... had to watch the video again to remind myself how to do it. Everything went well. Thanks for a quality product and easy to understand video instruction... 817917

The Product was great , follow the instructions and you can put the wiring in ,in about 2 hrs the hardest thing to do is run the wire up to the battery , unless you have a lift then it would be pretty simple , unless you old like me 73 and still laying on the ground to put them in , not bad pretty easy over all , everything went in just as it said it would , Great product , recommend it to any one. 816277

Ask the Experts about this Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring

  • Does the Tow Ready Wiring Harness # 118480 Have to Be Run to Vehicle Battery
Powered trailer wiring harnesses like the Tow Ready part # 118480 that you referenced have to have the battery wire run all the way to the positive post of the vehicle battery. The reason for this is so that the taillights of the trailer won't be putting any amperage draw on the delicate taillight wiring of the vehicle. All of the amperage would be drawn from the battery instead. If you were to power the unit from a 12 volt source like what you mentioned you would be defeating the circuit...

It is not recommended to attach the power wire from the converter to any other 12 volt power source other than directly to the battery.
