Ground Control Applications

Note: Determine where these jacks will be mounted on your trailer. Use this system if there will be 20' or less between the center of the landing gear footpad and the center of the rear jack footpad. If your setup requires more than 20' between the jacks, use the 6-point Ground Control system (LC675817) instead.

Lippert Ground Control 3.0 installed

Leveling your fifth-wheel RV has never been easier thanks to the Ground Control 3.0 electric leveling system. The motorized leveling legs eliminate the need for labor-intensive, manual scissor jacks. And the auto-level feature takes out the guesswork by automatically and precisely leveling your RV. Whether you use the easy-to-use touchpad or the touchscreen remote, all you have to do is step back and watch as Ground Control 3.0 levels your rig right before your eyes.

Automatic Leveling for Your 5th-Wheel RV

Lippert Ground Control 3.0 touchpad displays Auto Level Success

The auto-level feature provides the easiest, most efficient way to level your rig. With automatic leveling, you don't need to go through the trial and error of referencing levels and manipulating jacks one at a time. Just set the level position (zero-point) once, and the Ground Control 3.0 will bring your RV to that same preset point each time.

When first setting up the Ground Control 3.0 you will need to manually level your RV. With some leveling systems, manipulating the jacks individually can result in damage to your trailer's frame. Ground Control has built-in twist prevention so that you won't have to worry about twisting and damaging your frame.

In addition to automatically leveling your RV, the Ground Control 3.0 can also correctly position your trailer for hookup with the hitch recognition feature. This time-saving function stores your RV's position when you unhook from your tow vehicle so that it can automatically return the RV to that position when you're ready to hitch back up again.

Motorized Jacks with Hall Effect Technology

Lippert Ground Control 3.0 motorized rear jacks and front landing gear

The 4 motorized jacks included with the Ground Control system employ Hall effect technology to precisely and quickly raise and lower your RV. These jacks use sensors to measure the number of motor revolutions per minute instead of amp draw. This allows for more precise control over the motor than you'd have with conventional motorized jacks, which results in more accurate leveling of your trailer.

Manual access ports are located on the bottom and the top of each jack's motor so that the jacks can still be raised or lowered in the event of a power failure. To use these ports you must have a 3/8" drive ratchet and extension (not included). The bottom ports also require a 5/16" socket (not included).

Convenient Operation

Ground Control 3.0 offers 2 convenient ways to level your rig. Whether you use the touchpad or the touchscreen remote, setting up camp is at your fingertips.

Touchpad with Lighted LCD Screen

Lippert Ground Control 3.0 touchpad

The included, easy-to-use touchpad makes leveling your RV as simple as pressing a few buttons. The lighted LCD screen provides helpful prompts and alerts you to the status of the system. There are also indicator lights that let you know what functions are being performed. The touchpad is designed to mount inside of a front-most compartment of your RV. It requires a 3-3/8" wide x 2-3/4" tall cutout in the wall and it secures with the included hardware. Because the touchpad mounts inside the compartment, it will remain protected from the elements while still allowing you to be within viewing distance of your hitch.

Touchscreen Remote

Lippert Ground Control 3.0 touchscreen remote

The included touchscreen remote features a convenient leveling app that lets you operate the Ground Control 3.0 system from up to 50' away. Just sync the remote to the touchpad during installation to ensure that the system is fully integrated. The remote is powered by a long-lasting, non-replaceable lithium-ion battery, and a convenient wall charger is included.

Installation

Upgrading your rig with the Ground Control 3.0 system is simple. The 2 landing gear jacks mount to existing points on your RV and secure with included hardware. The 2 rear jacks come with mounting brackets that bolt onto 8", 10", or 12" I-beam frames with included hardware. Mounting the rear jacks does require drilling. A sensor is also included for the rear jacks. This will be mounted on a crossmember near the rear jacks.

The control module for the system mounts in a compartment under the coach with included hardware. This module has a wiring harness that connects directly to your 12-volt battery. Wiring harnesses are also included that connect the jack motors, rear sensor, and the touchpad to the control module.

Video Transcript for Lippert Ground Control Electric 5th Wheel RV Leveling System Review

Speaker 1: Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Lippert Ground Control 3.0 electric fifth wheel RV leveling system, with touch pad and remote. The four point set is part number LC358590, and for the six point set, you'll wanna use part number LC675817. NNow, the ground control 3.0 system is an excellent solution all the hassle that really comes in when it's time to set up your fifth wheel. The only thing that's gonna remain the same to our old style kind of set up is that we're gonna need to chock the wheels.Outside of that, we'll come out, we'll drop our landing gear down, and you can see, even if it's on uneven terrain, since these work independently from one another, it's not like the old single switch system to where you just had to rely on that and hope that it was level. In this case, they're gonna work independently and level that system out. Also, once we traditionally would have those down on the ground making contact, we'd then have to go to the back, get everything leveled out, and then run those stabilizer jacks down, whether it was by hand or one of the ones that has the switches and they kinda scissor down. Just makes life a whole lot easier. You don't have to worry about pulling your vehicle up onto the levelers to get that level and then try to stabilize it.

It's all in one kit, you're gonna have the leveling and stabilization just at the touch of a button. You hit a button, walk away, continue your setup, and it's gonna be done. Now, when you get to your destination, or you're done with your trip and you're back home and you're ready to level out your RV, with this system no longer do we have to take care of the leveling first, and then the stabilizing. Basically, we're gonna chock our wheels. That's really all we have to do.Without this system, you'll need to be pulling up on some kind of leveling system to get that level, then bring down your stabilizers. This takes care of it all for us.

We don't have to worry about any additional parts. We are using some contact pads here. These are generally used, just to keep your landing gear from getting down in the dirt or softer ground. This is more to simulate an uneven situation. Our parking lot's fairly level, so it wouldn't really give us an idea of that. This is gonna show us a little bit better how it's gonna work independently side to side.

Now, we've been using this system for quite a while, we really like how it works, so we just kinda wanna walk you through it, show you the benefits that you're gonna have. We're gonna initially get to our site, and we are gonna chock our wheels. Always wanna have our wheels chocked, and then we'll pull the pin, and we're gonna allow our footplate to come down and make contact with the ground. That's very much in line with what you already do.There's something else I like. Look at the size of the footplates we have here. These are about eight and half inches.

That's really gonna spread this energy out over a greater area, and prevent this from sinking down into the softer ground. Now, we'll come to the control unit, we wanna turn that on. . We're just gonna hit that front arrow. It says front on it. This allows us to get the front end lifted up, so we can unhook from our truck. Now, once we've disconnect our truck, we wanna make sure that we have the front of our camper up just a little bit higher than the back. We want the front end to be a little bit elevated. That helps to ensure that we can use the auto-hitch feature when it's time hook back up, so keep that in mind. Now, we'll come back to our control panel. You can see this light flashing, that means that our rear is low. Down, that's what we want for that auto-hitch feature. Now we just hit this button, we're gonna let that system go to work. You can see auto level engaging, please wait. It's gonna start with the front and it'll move to each side.Back at the rear. As you can hear, it's a relatively quiet system while it's operating, so while this takes the minute or two it's gonna require to get everything leveled out and stabilized, you can continue on with your RV set up.Now, once you have those rear jacks retracted, we'll go into our auto-reconnect mode. . Now, with that auto-reconnect feature activated, you can see how the front of that trailer came up, that's gonna ensure we're at that appropriate level, so we can back our truck under safely, and we'll know it's at the appropriate level for the hitch. And once it begins, it's all the leveling, we van simply walk away and continue with our other chores we'll need to do for setup. When completed, you'll have a little audible beep, the screen will read success, and as you can see on the screen now, it'll say level jacks down, to indicate the status of both the trailer and jacks. Now, our up and down arrows here and here allow us to select through a menu that can give us a lot of good information. Here's our battery voltage, we've got the inches in which each of our jacks have extended. We're gonna have the angle, you can see just about even, .1 degree tilt, .1 degree angle. So we're just about dead even, and then we've got the features as far as auto retracting the rear jacks. Now each of our jacks can be controlled manually as well. You can see we've got manual mode. We'll hit enter to begin, then we'd be able to operate our rear, our front, left, and right jacks. Now, as an additional option, you've got a wireless remote that's gonna come with the ground control system as well. This is rechargeable, it comes with a wall charger so you can plug it in, and this remote will allow you to not only operate the ground control 3.0 system from the control panel mounded inside of your fifth wheel, but also from up to 50 feet away. Now, here's a good look at the landing gear portion of the ground control 3.0 system. As you can see, this is a direct replacement, so you just remove your old landing gear. It's gonna go right back into the exact same brackets, you're not gonna have to make any modifications at all. You can also get a good look at our wiring harness here.As you can see, labeled left inaudible 00:06:12, it's very easy to get this installed. All of your plugs are very good quality. Here we can see the control unit, or the operating unit of the system. Something I like, we've got the nice maxi fuses already installed, 35 amps per set of gear, so it's all gonna be protected, we're not gonna have to worry about any shorts or anything like that. You can also see on the other end of our harness here, this is also gonna be labeled. Left front, right front, left rear, right rear. And for the front, you'll have the cap right here to remove, and then you'll just need a three eights ratchet with a short extension. Here you can see the rear unit, this is on the left rear. It's gonna have the nice large plate. This is gonna work out for eight, 10 or 12 inch frames. So you'd frame on your trailer, you'll wanna make sure falls into one of those categories, but you can also see this one has a bracket that came on it from the factory that you're able to attach to, so depending on your situation if your camper has that bracket, you can attach directly to that, and if your camper wasn't supplied with the bracket, it's easy just to drill a couple holes in your frame and it match up with the flange and get it installed. Now, in the event that you have some sort of battery failure, it doesn't happen very often, but if it does, you're not gonna be stuck where you're at. At the bottom of the motor here, we've got a plug, we can pull that, and on the bottom we'll just use a five 16th inch socket, and we can manually operate that up or down. Now, when it comes time to decide whether you need the four or six post style, it's pretty easy to figure it out. The four post is designed for holding up to 20,000 pounds, but you wanna ensure that your camper doesn't exceed 15,500 pounds. You'll also wanna make sure that from your landing gear at the front, to that rear mounting location, that it's smaller or shorter than 20 feet.If that's further than 20 feet, you'll wanna put one at that 20 foot mark, and then that's where you'll need that six kit, you'll need that second one to go back just a little bit further to give us all of that support that we need. And that'll complete our look at the Lippert Ground Control 3.0 electric fifth wheel leveling system. ..

Just got everything installed and working. etrailer has excellent customer service reps. When I received my shipment the touchpad, all of the mentioned screws for installing the touchpad and the remote was not included. I called etrailer and they shipped all of the parts out to me (took a week) and I just received the remote today. The install is easy make sure you have good drill bits so you can start a pilot hole before you drill the 5/16th holes for the rear jack mounts. Have someone hold the rear mounting plates and use a piece of chalk to mark your holes drill the top two holes first and mount you plate then drill the rest of the holes. I had more of a problem removing the OEM landing gear than I had installing the new gear. I used wire hangers and zip ties to hold the wire along my trailer. I didn't want to remove the underbelly of the trailer because of the blown in insulation. 610205

Product has been working great. We do a fair amount of traveling and use the self leveling system often. The only negative part of the system is that the 5th wheel has to be somewhat level to start with. This was explained in the instructions, but it does save time and work. Glad I installed this system. 505188

1. This is a tremendous product. Wish we had ordered our fiver with this factory installed. Super happy it was available as an aftermarket product. Works exactly as LCI and etrailer said it would. If you do not have auto-level, get this! 2. etrailer is great. Ordering was simple and the leveling system delivered ahead of schedule. Would rate them as a five-star e-retailer. 3. Both etrailer and LCI said this could be installed directly on my 27.5 RLTS. The supporting installation manuals intimated that as well. And as I am mechanically inclined, that convinced me I could handle the install myself. Once I received the system, that proved not to be the case. The front jacks required modifications to fit and the rear jack mounting brackets were too big for my trailer frame. So, ended up taking my trailer and the leveling system to LCI's Service Center in Indiana to have it installed. That was a cost I was hoping to avoid with the self-install. However, LCI's Service Center and tech department is fantastic. Great customer service and installation. 4. Bottom line, if your are installing yourself, connect with etrailer and LCI and obtain product drawings and dimensions to confirm fit. Or, buy it from etrailer and have it professionally installed at LCI. 615132

I have had the ground control system which I installed myself for a year now and so far have a couple issues. Mostly a learning curve but once you learn the system it does everything I expected the system to do. The remote control has only one function and that is to raise and lower the jacks. The landing gear button does nothing. Trailer when level still has some motion but it is a minimum. The system does make it easier to level the trailer and reconnect when ready to leave. I like it so far with minimum issues. 254211

Its working well. Wish there was an upgrade to the remote that the landing gear button would become functional. Other than that i am real pleased.

This is an excellent product! Don't know why I waited so long to purchase. If you have basic mechanical skills you can install this. Took me about 4 hrs to install with the help of a friend to install the landing gear jacks. Had to modify the jack mounting tabs just a little to get them to fit, but not anything a little grinder could'nt handle. Overall, heavy duty, easy to install and a must have for any 5th wheel. Have used it many times without any issues...love it!!!! 494614

Installation took me about 16 hours, which includes sealing up the bottom of camper. Had to make a few modifications to trailer, no major problems. So far, works the way advertised. Missing some hardware, made one phone call and company sent out the difference. 584781

One of the best investments I ever made! No more running around will level to check for leveling of unit. Just press the auto level and it's magically done! With the large pads and location of rear jacks, the trailer is more stable than the factory manual jacks. Highly recommend the LC358590 for your 5th wheel. Excellent service and technical help from etrailer staff! 351263

Price, delivery, communication all great. Install was complex on my rig and it is a Lippert frame and chassis. Required a lot of mods on my 2017 Attitude 28SAG. Had to cut away some metal (non structural) to get mounting points on rear jacks. Had to reroute fuel lines to genset. With no access to the left front landing gear, I cut and added an access door and gained bonus storage area. Wiring was a breeze with the nice harnesses, long enough for any size rig. Quiet and fast. Caution: make sure you mount the Quick Release Pull Pin with the barrel away from the frame: This unit retracts automatically very close to frame and you can bend the pin. Cons: Mounting plate for rear sensor was not painted and was rusty. No screws included to mount sensor but listed on parts list. only included 8 frame attacing bolts, install requires 12. No big deal. Overall well worth the money and the effort. 583036

The Lippert Ground Control auto leveling system is the greatest RV accessory there is for older RVers. This unit was fairly easy to install and with a few changes in the how to guide, it would have been simple. It took about 5 hours to install and wire. We have used the unit about a dozen times since the install and it has been a joy to have. Just push a couple of buttons and do something else while it levels the 5th wheel. The unit memory allows for re hook up with the same few button pushes. The 4 point contact system is ample for the 35 foot 5th wheel, very little movement in a rig with 3 slides weighting in at little over 6.6 tons. 246269

I installed these on our 29 foot Arctic Fox 5th Wheel, installation was moderate on the difficulty scale for someone with the appropriate tools and ability. Quality of the product, fit and finish, and operation are a 10/10. Beautiful system and pre-purchase help from Judy at etrailer was excellent! I highly recommend this system, no more cranking scissor jacks and excellent stability. 452154

It’s a good system. A little challenging to install unless you have a good level area to work. I am very happy with it so far. Has made setting up our camper 10 times faster and easier. My wife loves to push the button and let the jacks do the work instead of me yelling out the truck window at her....haha. I would recommend it for sure. 765630

Love it love it love it five stars plus A bit of work to install, but the benefit fat outweighs the initial evert of installation Would be great if the individual jack electric harnesses could be cut to custom length instead of having to roll up all that extra wire and figure out where to neatly store it! 703006

Lippert Components Ground Control 3.0 is the best component I have upgraded on our 5th Wheel. Setup takes 1/4 of the time now and rv is always level. Installing the components took some muscle and skill but you will not regret the end result. I spoke with my contact at Lippert who said that there are no replacement parts for the rear jacks of the Ground Control 3.0 Electric Leveling System # LC358590. You will need to replace the whole leg which might not be a bad idea anyways since you said they installed incorrectly and keep getting damaged. • Out of Stroke Error on Lippert Ground Control
I am a bit confused by your question as Kwikee does not make trailer jacks but rather trailer steps. If you were instead referring to trailer jacks such as the Lippert Ground Control 3.0 Electric 5th Wheel RV Leveling System part # LC358590 then the "out of stroke" error means you have extended the jack too far. If the jack will not retract using the touchpad then you will need to do so manually with the manual override on top or bottom (see photo). If you continue to get an "out of...

  • Is Lippert Ground Control 2.0 System Compatible with 3.0 Motor and Leg?
The Lippert 2.0 system is not compatible with the motors on the 3.0 system. The 3.0 system uses electric motors that utilize the hall effect where the 2.0 system does not. This is a completely different design which makes the motor and legs incompatible with the controller and wiring of the 2.0 system. You will need to upgrade your system if you desire that style as your system has been replaced. For the 2.0 system we have the Replacement Heavy-Duty Landing Gear Jack Leg for Ground...

The Lippert Ground Control 3.0 # LC358590 uses different motors which are also configured differently than the 2.0 system. If your 2.0 system is working well then it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to go to the 3.0. Why they chose the naming conventions that they did I can't say other than they do not make enough changes to warrant intermediate generation names.
