Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the Superwinch Tiger Shark off-road winch with the synthetic rope, the hawse fairlead and an 18,000-pound rated line pull. Now, this is a heavy duty off-road winch. It is designed for heavy duty vehicle recovery applications. Does use a nice extruded aluminum body, has a nice black textured finish to it.
It's very sturdy and corrosion resistant, and they do use stainless steel tie bars and hardware to add strength and structural rigidity to the body. Over here we have the sealed 6.8 horsepower series-wound motor. This will deliver quick, safe line pulling, responds to an increase in load by slowing down and reducing the current to minimize the risk of overheating. The mechanical brake, it uses an automatic mechanical brake. It'll hold 100% of the load while minimizing winch creep, and the gear box right here on this side, this is an all steel four-stage planetary gearbox, has a gear ratio of 345:1.
It is a nice rugged construction, delivers years of service, and it'll quickly and quietly turn the drum. Does use a free spooling clutch to ensure fast rope payout, reduces wear on the motor, and what's nice is right up here, if you notice this handle, it's an easy to operate chrome clutch handle, has a nice stylish chrome plating for corrosion resistance, and it's a flip design, so it makes it easy to engage or disengage the clutch. Basically, if you see it now, it'll show, says engage. If you just lift this, flip it over, now it says free spooling, and then just flip it back to engage it. So it's very easy to operate.
It is a sealed rotating gearbox, so it'll let you customize the position of the clutch for easy access to the handle. Basically, if you want this handle in a different position, it'll move it every 30 degrees, so you can actually rotate this gearbox to put the handle where you prefer to have it. The rope on this, it is a 79 feet of a 1/2 inch diameter synthetic rope. It's very strong and durable, mounts over an all steel drum. It does include this removable 1/2-inch latched hook with the nylon hand saver strap attached, and the hawse fairlead right here it is a black aluminum hawse fairlead, protects the wire rope from damage by reducing strain and rubbing.
The sealed contactor transmits power from the vehicle's battery to the winch motor. If I flip this around, just to show you back here, you can see they use a two gauge size battery wires to connect it to the battery. Now, this does come with this rubber handheld wired remote, just wanna show that to you. Has a 30-foot-long cord, and it'll let you operate the winch from a nice safe distance. Basically, this plug right here will plug right over in here. It's a three-pin plug. You just match it up, push it in, plug it in, and you're ready to go, and then you can use the toggle switch on the remote itself, in or out, to power of the load. Now, this does come with the mounting hardware, and it does come with this owner's manual that'll describe how this all goes together and how it operates. Just to go over a few specs on this, the rated line pull with a single layer of synthetic rope around the drum is 18,000 pounds static load. The vehicle recovery capacity is 13,000 pounds. The motor on this, we mentioned it's a 12-volt DC motor. The line pull at zero pounds is, or the power draw is 70 amps. Line speed is 19.7 feet per minute. The line pull at 18,000 pounds. The power draws 440 amps, line speed of 3.8 feet per minute, and the last thing is the weight on this, total weight on this is about 132 pounds, and the dimensions, the length, end to end, is about 24 1/4 inches long. The width at your widest point is 8 1/2 inches wide and the height, from the bottom to the very highest point, is 11 1/2 inches tall. If you don't include this box, height would be about 9 1/2 inches tall, but that's gonna do it for the review on this Superwinch Tire Shark off-road winch with the synthetic rope and the hawse fairlead with an 18,000 pound rated line pull.
