Note: Because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer's brakes.
When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the hydraulic actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. When this happens, the actuator contracts, applying force to its master cylinder. This in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes.

Hello, neighbors and friends. Welcome back. I'm Steven. This is gonna be a look at our Demco hydraulic brake actuator for drum brakes. It's got a prime finish, and it's what they consider an A-frame style coupler. So again, it's a hydraulic actuator, and that's gonna activate your trailer's brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops.
It's got what's called a bulldog style or collar lock style coupler. It's gonna fit tightly around the hitch ball for a secure connection. And as far as that goes, if you've never seen one of these, I'll go ahead and pull a ball out from around the table here and show you a simple demonstration. Simply pull the pin out. Now, this collar is spring-loaded, so when I pull that, this other latch here will pop open.
You can kind of see it there, and the ball simply goes up in place. And then once you get that 2 and 5/16th ball on there, you just simply push that close, and it's gonna automatically lock in place. And I'll kind of spin that around there, show you that a little better maybe. And then as far as getting the ball unhooked, obviously, this will be on your ball mount, once you've got that collar and pull it back, it's gonna automatically open, thus releasing from the ball itself. Now I'm gonna go ahead and close this back up here and put the pin back.
Very simple operation, very easy to use. Now, taking a closer look, again, I talked about that pin holder, that's gonna hold that collar in place and keep it from opening when you don't want it to. That's got a nice, large reservoir back here. That's gonna provide increased capacity for your brake fluid. There's a back view of that whole assembly.
And it's got a nice glass-reinforced nylon construction. That's gonna resist rust and corrosion. It's got this nice automotive style diaphragm cap. That's gonna create a completely enclosed system, and that's gonna help prevent contamination of your fluid. It's got a nice rubber seal on there. Now, as far as this guy sliding in and out and actuating whenever you're using it, 'cause if you don't know, when you hit your brakes on this style of brake actuator coupler, this piece will kinda compress inside of here, and thus pushing the fluid to those drum brakes. Now, it has what's called an acetal coal polymer lining on here, and that's gonna give you a nice, smooth operation as the actuator telescopes in and out from this assembly. Again, the breakaway cable is included. It's got a nice reach on it there. I'm even outta the view over here, that's how long it is. It's got a nice safety cable chain hookup here. Put that on the same spot where you put your safety chains for the trailer. God forbid you have a brake bleed, but if do, basically that's gonna pull this latch, which will then automatically send the fluid to the brakes, locking 'em up to stop you safely. That's a simple reset, you just push it back in place when everything's fixed and ready to go, and it's ready to go again. It is a nice heavy duty, nice, steel construction. Beautiful polished prime finish rather here. It looks kinda polished, it's shiny, but it's a prime finish, you can paint it whatever color you want. It's a weld-on application, so you would weld this onto your trailer frame. It's a straight tube up here. Again, A-frame shaped down below. It is made in the USA. It's got what's considered a 50 degrees A-frame. And again, it works with hydraulic drum brakes. It has a nice one-year warranty. And if you're matching up models, it is considered a model D95050. It is rated 8,000 pounds capacity and 800 pounds tongue weight. All that is also stamped on top of the coupler head over here, which you can't see right now 'cause of the angle, but it's all stamped on there as well. So a very nice product. Demco makes really nice couplers and actuators, and they're kinda well-known in the trailer scene. Well, again, I'm Steven with etrailer.com. Hope all this information's been helpful for you. I hope if you're making a decision to go from electric to hydraulic brakes, keep in mind, you do have to get all your brake lines, the brake drums, all that kinda stuff, and you can find all that information as well on etrailer.com. Stay safe out there as always, have fun installing, and I'm Steven, have a great day.

Very good product. I have been a fabricator for 42 years, and I will say this is very well made. etrailer.com is a great place!
Very impressed! This will be perfect for my trailer rebuild.
Yes i recieved the device , I'ts better than i expexted , very well built , Can definetely handle more weight than designed for, P/S I invented the device about 45 years ago. The device takes the shifting weight away from the hitch and tong of the trailer. The first device used a coil spring, The device i recieved uses a shock works the same as a coil spring.
perfect! its exactly what i needed.
Amazing upgrade from magnetic brakes! Brittany was friendly, prompt, knowledgeable.
excellent!. I painted with the trailer color
The product was just what I expected. The real story was that etrailer had a delay in shipping due to a manufacturer issue. Etrailer stayed in constant contact with me and made sure I was up to date on every stage of the order. AAA+ service...!!!
Product has met my expectations. The customer service at etrailer is fantastic.
