Surge-type actuator features a corrosion-resistant composite master cylinder and a primed finish. Bulldog Collar-Lok coupler provides tight, solid connection with hitch ball and is great for heavy-duty towing. Welds onto a 50-degree A-frame trailer.

Features:

  • Hydraulic actuator activates trailer's brakes when tow vehicle slows or stops
  • Bulldog Collar-Lok coupler fits tightly around hitch ball for secure connection
    • Heavy-duty design is great for utility, livestock, cargo, and construction trailers
    • Pin-style fastener holds collar in place around base of hinged ball socket
  • Composite master cylinder is durable and efficient
    • Glass-reinforced nylon construction resists rust and corrosion
    • Large reservoir provides increased capacity for brake fluid
    • Automotive-style diaphragm cap creates completely enclosed system to help prevent contamination of fluid
  • Acetal copolymer lining provides smooth operation as actuator telescopes in and out
  • Built-in drop helps you match tow vehicle height
  • Breakaway included
  • Heavy-duty steel construction
  • Primed finish
  • Weld-on installation
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Application: 50-degree A-frame trailers with hydraulic drum brakes
  • Ball size: 2"
  • Gross towing weight: 7,000 lbs
  • Maximum tongue weight: 1,050 lbs
  • Drop: 4"
  • Model number: DA91
  • 1-Year warranty

Note: Because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer's brakes.

When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the hydraulic actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. When this happens, the actuator contracts, applying force to its master cylinder. This in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes.

Thanks for your help in these trying times. I am restoring the surge brake operations to a 1985 Wells cargo enclosed trailer and performing all of the work myself. Not an easy task on a 36 year old trailer purchased new. I received this part and it is fantastic and arrived many days ahead of the projected delivery date. My prior orders also arrived early and the trailer brake parts and lines fit perfectly. Thank you for providing the service and knowledge to get me what I needed to restore an obsolete trailer. I can provide photos on completion. I may need to order new parts again in 36 years, I will be 94.

  • How Does Demco Brake Actuator DA91 Reset Breakaway
I checked the manual for the Demco DA91 actuator part # DM8509612 and if the lever is pulled it can be disengaged by using a screwdriver to lift upward on the front of the flat emergency lever spring while pulling lever forward till it releases.

  • How to Release the Breakaway on the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator Part # DM8509612
Are you referring to the breakaway or lockout on the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator part # DM8509612? If you are referring to the breakaway then there is a lever on the top of the coupler which has two positions, one for brakes on (red) and one for brakes off (green). If you are referring to the lockout then this unit does not come with a lockout mechanism. Therefore, in order reverse the trailer without having the brakes lock up you would need to either use free-backing brakes or a manual...

  • How to Tell if UFP A-160 Actuator Has Manual Lockout
I am not quite sure what you have on your UFP A-160 actuator but if you check out the attached picture the only way you can manually lock out an actuator is if it has a manual lockout built-in. Technically you can drill a hole in the side of it and place a bolt there to keep the actuator action from happening but this weakens the wall of the actuator and should only be used as a last resort and we don't recommend doing this. You may be able to use a solenoid valve like part # DM5404 but...

  • Replacement Surge Brake Actuator For Drum Brakes On 6,000LB Boat Trailer w/ Atwood A-Frame Actuator
I recommend replacing your obsolete Atwood surge coupler with the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator # DM8509612. This coupler is rated for trailers up to 7,000lbs and connects to the vehicle with a 4" drop coupler accepting a 2" hitch ball so it will be similar in height to your current coupler. This Coupler will weld on top of your current 50 degree a-frame but you will want to find some steel to close off the exposed openings in your frame and tie the bottom of the frame together as well.

  • Recommended Surge Brake Actuator For Demco DT6000 Trailer With Drum Brakes
I would be happy to help! As long as the A-Frame on your trailer is the standard 50-degree angle then the best option to replace your current surge brake actuator would be the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w Drop - Drum - Primed - A-Frame - 2" Bulldog Coupler - 7,000 lb # DM8509612. This actuator will weld right on to your A-frame, has a 7000lb trailer weight rating, uses a standard 2" hitch ball, and is designed specifically for drum brakes like your Demco DT6000 trailer has. • Should I Install Drum or Disc Brake Actuator on Old Dump Truck Trailer Conversion
I would imagine it has to do with the brakes installed on the old dump truck. The Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator for Drum Brakes # DM8102232 should be producing about 1,200 psi of hydraulic pressure while the Disc Brake Alternative # DM8105422 will be producing a higher 1,600 psi of hydraulic pressure. If your converted trailer has drum brakes then you'll likely need the drum brake actuator, but if it has disc brakes then the higher rating of the disc brake actuator should be the right...

  • Best Replacement Reverse Lockout Solenoid for Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator # DM8509612
We do have a replacement reverse lockout solenoid for the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator # DM8509612, but the Replacement Solenoid Valve # T4748800 that you referenced is not designed and has not been tested to fit the Demco actuators.
