Availability Of Left-Hand Threading Trailer Lug Bolts

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 09/29/2024

Question:

Good morning, I own an old snowmobile trailer that requires left-handed threaded lug bolts on the driver side of the trailer. After googling this, it brought me to one of your products, but it does not say whether these are left handed thread. Do you carry something like this?

Hello John, thanks for reaching out. The # RG02-020 Trailer Wheel Bolts you mentioned are right-hand thread. So is every other lug bolt we carry. The left-hand thread is really not used for trailers these days, and it is definitely more of an "old school" design. The thinking back in the day was that wheel bolts had to tighten in a certain direction relative to the direction of the wheel. The fear was that otherwise, the inertia of the wheel would cause the bolts to loosen over time. In recent years we have learned that this is not true, so everything made is now right-hand thread. Your best bet at this point will be to switch out your hubs with something that uses a right-hand thread since parts for this are readily available.

If you can tell me the inner bearing size, outer bearing size and seal size for your hubs I am happy to look into it and see if we have anything for you.

Hey John, were you able to find the bearing and seal sizes for your trailer hubs? Once you have those details, I can help narrow down a hub that will work with right-hand threaded bolts. Your update could make it easier for others restoring older trailers too.
