Question:

I am looking for wheel lug nuts that I cant find. Im making a trailer and the axle needs these kind of lug nuts to hold the wheels, but I cant find them. If you can please let me know. The axle has printed on Dexter 8-155 and the and some of the nuts we have say Torque 85-95. Please let me know if you have them.

Thank you for the photo of your vintage trailer hub.

This type of hub uses bolts rather than lug nuts to secure the trailer wheel. We offer kit # RG02-020 which consists of four (4) 1/2-inch x 1-inch 60-degree-coned wheel bolts. We also have a kit # RG02-040 that has 90-degree-coned bolts that are 1/2-inch x 7/8-inch. We also have 9/16-inch x1-1/8-inch bolts # RG02-060.

The particular wheels you use will require one or the other depending on the profile of the wheel holes. The wheel should have a recommended torque value noted on it but generally the range of 90- to 120-ft-lbs is appropriate for 1/2-inch bolts on a steel wheel.

I've got an 18,000.00 lb. gooseneck trailer that was built by a defunct trailer manufacturer called Tracer Trailers out of Brazil Indiana. It is a tri-axle trailer and supposedly has 6,000 lb. Dexter axles. They look very much like the ones in the above thread with 4 bolts and a large bolt circle (9 1/2"?). Is there any NOS of these type of hubs and drums? Are backing plates with new brake shoes available? Thanks,

Are there by chance any numbers stamped onto the hub itself? Sometimes it can be inside the drum. I just want to make sure my recommendation is correct.

@ChrisR, I took the rim off last weekend. It's definitely a Dexter drum (it says so in casting letters). It has a casting part number which is 8-156 or possibly 8-155. I was hoping to find a NOS drum. I think it may be the same number as the one in the photo above in the original posting. It definitely is the same style of drum. Thanks,

@CharlesJ Thanks so much for the info. We do have one similar spoke-style 6K hub available with the Dexter # 8-174-5UC3, but it features a 5-spoke configuration. If it fits your spindle you would need to replace your existing wheels to match. This particular hub uses the # 25580 inner bearing and # 15123 outer bearing. I recommend verifying that your existing hub uses these same bearing sizes if you decide to go with this assembly.
