Video Transcript for Ultimate Overview of the Loading Ramp for Kuat Piston Pro and Piston Pro X Bike Rack

The piston pro X makes it very easy to load up your bikes but if you have heavy bikes, like e-bikes, we do have a e-bike ramp that's gonna work with the piston. So this in it's smallest form is gonna be 32 inches long and we can adjust it all the way down to 54 inches. This is gonna help a lot, especially if your e-bikes are pretty heavy. Anything up to 60 pounds, it's gonna work with. So all you wanna do is adjust it to the length that you want. I just like using the longer ramp and then we want to open this up just by pressing that little lever and you want to do it on both sides, but then after this, on the side that you want to load it up on, we're gonna put this down like this and then after that, you're gonna hear some clicks.

So that needs to happen and then once we're done with that, we're gonna have one side that has these little channels here and it's gonna mount right where those tire holders are going to go on the rack. This fits in there very, very nicely and it really doesn't want to come off very easily. So that's gonna be nice. So it's gonna stay in place whenever we grab our bike. So that's what we wanna do.

Grab the bike. We don't have a whole lot of room in our bay but what you want to do is just line it up, nice and straight and then we're gonna take this up, just like this and then this is where it gets a little tricky. What we wanna do is kind of lock this wheel in a little bit. We can't push it too hard because we need to have the other arm go. So now it's kind of standing up but I recommend just putting a hand on it just to make sure it doesn't go anywhere.

We're just gonna take this ramp off real quick. Kind of set it to the side, we'll deal with that later and then we're gonna click that little lever again. It'll stop and then after that, it'll come up and you should hear some clicking, just like this and then you just tighten it down like you normally would and then once you're done, what you can do is, we can lean the piston pro back a little bit. We can adjust this down, just by turning these little hand knobs right here and then just put it in your storage area. We aren't gonna have a place on the piston pro to put this.

So you will have to put it in a storage area like this but you can put it with your bike cable, if you're not using that. Here are some other measurements. The overall width of the ramp is gonna be four inches, and then these lifts right here, they're gonna come up about an inch and one eighth onto the sides. So it's gonna be great for your road bikes. It's gonna be great for those fat tire bikes, if it doesn't exceed the four inches. It is made of steel. It's only about seven pounds so it's not too heavy for being steel and it does have a powder coated finish too. So even if you have a truck or something and you store it in the bed, it's not gonna rust away. We get to the trail head. We're gonna tilt this back. If you leave it in the back of your vehicle, we're gonna grab it from the back and then just unload our bikes with a little bit less strain on us. So we're gonna kind of do exactly what we did before. First, just prepare the ramp, get it to the length that you want, tighten it up. This is where I suggest just kind of putting it down close to where we're gonna be. You can keep the front of the bike cinch down or if you really wanted to either back it off or go off the front, you can do it on either side and it's gonna work for all of the cradles that we have. So we're gonna put that in there and then we undo the other side and then after, just back it off. I always like to just keep my hand on the brake, just to help it go down nice and smooth, so it doesn't go too fast and then once that's done, you can take your bike, put it to the side, get on the way but I would definitely recommend putting it somewhere safe and outta the way of anybody else. Just because, it is gonna be a lot wider than your vehicle. Once that's done, you just put it away and go along your way on the trails and that's pretty much it for it. There's not a whole lot to it. It's just the ramp for this specific bike rack. No other bike racks are gonna work with this ramp and that's pretty much it. There's not a whole lot to it but when it comes to products that make things a little bit easier, I think the ramp for the co-op piston is something I would definitely grab..

1 year later still satisfied with my purchase.

by:

The package had a big hole in it and was taped up. The ramp ends where it hooks to the rack was bent. I did resend it and it looks good now. Also one of the locking screws plastic part was broken. Looks like everything fits well now and should work fine. Ramp is very solid and well built.

by:

Necessary for old guys with heavy e-bik es.

by:

Ramp arrived quickly and in perfect condition. It is expandable length wise and is well built. Easy to carry when compacted. Works great to roll bikes up on to the carrier instead of lifting. We have the Piston Pro X carrier on the back of 2019 Jeep JL using a Saris swing out to access the back. The set up works pretty well.

Helps us load 3 & 4" ebikes. Wish it was a bit wider. Ramp does chip rack coating.

I have contacted the manufacturer and the only thing we can recommend is being gentle and careful. We recommend making sure the ramp is properly tightened before using it to insure it isnt moving around whenever pushing the bikes up the ramp.

Great service from etrailer. Arrived within a few days. I’m not crazy about the ramp design (no way to attach it to the rack for travel, so it goes in the vehicle), but I knew that when I ordered it. It’s the only option for the Piston Pro, unless someone is a creative DIY’er.

by:

Perfect for what I needed.

by:

Nice accessory to make life easier installing the electric bikes on the rack.

by:

Works great with my Kuat Piston Pro

by:

I like this ramp, its good quality and light. It slides together to make it smaller for storage. I'm 63 and recovering from an accident and I can't lift my 72 lb ebike. This is perfect.

by:

Works well and locks into place so there's no slipping

by:

The product is expensice for what it is. Also it took 4 days before it was ever shipped and then tood forever in the mail. Wouldn't use this company again if I don't have to

by:

Quality product and easy to use. It makes a tremendous difference when trying to load our heavy e-bikes.

by:

Pricey, but works precisely as intended, no qualms about its excellent quality of build.

We absolutely love the Piston Pro X! We have two heavy e-bikes which are a dream to load and secure with the optional and removable ramp attachment. The quality and build of this bike rack is top notch. No problems at all after a year of ownership.

by:

Works great with the heavier e-bikes.

by:

It is functional but awkward to use.

by:

Quality is fine. I just wished it was another foot longer to make the ramp a little less steep. Better than having to lift my e-bike though for sure.

by:

Exactly what I wanted delivered on time, and a great price!

by:

The ramp will be useful with 60 LB eBik es.

by:

Its light and compact and works great.

  • Recommended Single-Bike Rack With A 2" Shank For A 55lb E-Bike
Hi Tom, For a single-bike rack with a true 2" shank I recommend the Kuat Piston SR Bike Rack for 1 Bike # KU88ZR. This bike rack is rated for use on all vehicles, 5th wheels, motorhomes, travel trailers, and flat towed vehicles so you'll be able to transfer it over to whatever you want. When on a vehicle it has a 100lb capacity and when on an RV the weight capacity will dip down to 67lbs to accommodate for the harsher ride quality an RV would place on the rack. The shank base of this...

  • Can Bikes With Fenders be Carried With Kuat Piston Pro Bike Rack
Yep, you can definitely load bikes with fenders on the Kuat Piston Pro Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" Hitch # KU66ZR or 2" Hitch # KU76ZR. For either rack, all you need to do is wrap straps around the tire and ratcheting arm with the Fender Straps # KU43VR. Using those straps will protect the fenders from coming into contact with the rack's arm. If your bikes are heavier and you want some help lifting them on either rack, there is also an option to do that by adding the Loading Ramp # KU63VR.

  • E-Bike Rack that Can be Used at Rear of 2022 Jeep Wrangler that is Flat Towed
Hey Linda, we have one really great bike rack option that would cover your needs with the Kuat Piston Pro X Bike Rack for 2 Bikes # KU48VR. This has the spare clearance you need, has the weight capacity you need for the e-bike, is compatible with your e-bike fenders, and is rated for use at the rear of a flat towed vehicle. To add a ramp you'd need the part # KU63VR and you'd be set. The EasyFold doesn't have the clearance needed for your spare nor does it have the rating for use at...

  • Bike Rack for E-Bikes on 2020 Acura RDX With 1-1/4" Receiver
Hi Mike; I don't see any information out there on that 1-1/4" hitch to indicate if it is a Class I or Class II. The issue with Class I hitches can be the depth of the receiver. Sometimes they're blocked off at the back so you need something that is Class I compatible if that is the case. Take a look at the capacity of the hitch (it should be listed on the actual hitch). A Class I will likely be listed as 1,500 lbs towing/150 lbs tongue weight. Also, you don't want to use an extender/adapter...

  • Is There A Bike Rack Rated For E-bikes With A Lift Assist Rated For RV Use?
Hey Becky, Unfortunately I do not have an RV rated bike rack for e-bikes with a lift assist. The only options we have are going to be something with a ramp like the Kuat Piston Pro # KU48VR with the loading ramp # KU63VR. The reason there is not one is due to the extra torque and movement that is experienced behind a motorhome, something with a lift assist is not built for that application. The Kuat ramp does extend to 54" long which may give you an easier incline to push the bike up....

  • Do You Have to Have 4-Way to Use Kuat Piston Pro X Bike Rack
Good question, and it is not a necessity for your car to have a 4-way flat trailer connector in order to use the Kuat Piston Pro X bike racks. The 4-way connector that plugs in between the bike rack and the 4-way on your car (if you had one) comes separately in a parts bag, so it is not actually attached to the rack. I have added a photo for you which shows where you'd plug it in so you can see it is not connected to the rack. So you definitely do not have to use a 4-way with the rack...
