Video Transcript for Checking Out the Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch License Plate Holder

Hi there front hitch owners. Today, we're going to be taking a look at CURT's Hitch Mount License Plate Relocation Bracket. Now you may be wondering why I've got a license plate on my vehicle. Why do I need a license plate relocation bracket Well, that really just depends on what your intentions are. Maybe you're wanting to put an aftermarket bumper on the front and that may eliminate your license plate bracket, but you've got a front mount hitch already on there, so you can easily Mount it up to that. Or maybe you're one to add a brush guard, and that may run across your license plate here and obstruct it, so to keep you legal, we can relocate it further down below here.Depending on your vehicle, if you do install a front mount hitch in a lot of cases, the bracket may be in the way, so you're going to have to remove your original license plate anyway, for that installation.

Now, we didn't have to do that here on this vehicle, but on many of your trucks out there, you do have to.It's designed to fit in standard two inch by two inch receivers and uses a five eight inch hitch pin and clip secure it. One doesn't come included with the hitch, but if you need a hitch pin and clip, you can get one in etrailer.com here. This not only works on our front hitch, but it'll also work in your rear hitch if it's also a two inch by two inch opening. We're now here at the back of a truck with it slid into the receiver here at the back. Again, this is really, if you just need to get your license plate visible. If you've got any accessories here at the back, maybe you've got some stuff strapped down, you've got your tailgate removed and things might be hanging over where your plate normally is.

We can easily just slide this in here with our plate on it and drop it down below those loads. When you're ready to install your plate mount, there are two different hitch pin holes, so you can set the depths that you want. Simply slide it into your receiver and line up the holes in your relocation plate with the ones in your hitch. We can have it extend out if we have accessories that run up here on top, that may obstruct it or keep it from going all the way back. Or if it's not an issue, if this is going to sit completely below our accessories, then we can tuck it in even further to bring it closer to the truck, just to help increase the appearance of it, so it's not sticking out so much.It can also be installed in the rise position where the majority of it goes up, whichever one works best for your application. The plate is designed to work with any standard license plate.

If we hold it up there, you can see that the slotted holes in our license plate line up with the slotted holes on the plate mount here. The one thing that I did notice though, is that the holes here in the plate mount are significantly larger than what you would have on your license plate. If you we're trying to use just the regular hardware that you typically would use, you we're going to need to use some vendor washers or else that hardware is simply just going to pull through. This is a typical hardware that you would use. You can see here, I can pass it straight through, so we'll be using these fender washers on the back side to prevent that from happening. Now, the hardware doesn't come included with your mounting bracket, but you can pick some up at your local hardware store.

We're just going to be using some washers with small bolts to run it through. On the backside, we're going to use that larger fender washer. Then we're going to secure it with a nylon locking nut. You could also use just a regular nut with a lock washer if you have that type of hardware. We can then tighten our hardware down. We're going to be using an 11 millimeter wrench for our nut. That's probably the most common size. We're also going to center our plate here in the front when we go to tighten it down. Then we're just going to zip that tight. Once it is snug, we're just going to stop there. There's no reason to over-tighten it. That's just going to warp your license plate. Now there are four sets of holes on your bracket. So you could put two on the top and bottom, but really you only need to secure it with two, whether you choose it to be on the top or the bottom, it doesn't really matter which one. That'll hold it securely in place. To help match your vehicle, it features a black powder coat finish, and that also protects the solid steel construction from any rust or corrosion ensuring long lasting operation. That completes our look at CURT's Hitch Mounted License Plate Relocation Bracket.

This is the second time I’ve used a front receiver license plate mount…. And this product is SOLID!!!! Besides the product performing as stated and being sturdy, communication with Mike at trailer was phenomenal!!!

by:

I needed this license place mount for a custom built spare tire holder and bike carrier. I am using it on my class c motorhome because the spre tire covers up the license plate.

by:

This product was designed to be durable and long lasting. The welds look good and the coating is even and cover the mount in its entirety. The edge of the plate mounting area extends beyond the plate so there is no worry about the plate itself catching on anything. I recommend this product!

by:

Great product. Exactly what I needed.

by:

I didn’t like the look of license plate attached to spare wheel and wanted to show the full wheel. I found the trailer hitch license plate holder and lock on Etrailer. It works perfectly. Makes the back of the Hummer look a lot more appealing. Ordering was easy and package arrived within a week. I’m a forever customer. Thanks Etrailer.

I bought the Curt front mount Trailer hitch plate holder and a Draw-Tite front mount hitch. These parts were purchesed for a 2500 06 Duramax, everything fit perfect. I'm pleased with both products and the shipping was Super fast. Thanks again Julie H ;).

by:

Very solid. Good quality.

by:

Very heavy duty! Only four stars because the holes to mount the plate are so large...required using fender washers front and rear to mount plate. Arrived very fast and in excellent condition.

by:

Solid...purchased with a front hitch yet holes are drilled to big for standard license plate hardware so I had to add some oversized washers.

by:

A very solid license plate holder. I drilled an additional hole so that the license plate holder did not stick out so far and used a bolt to secure which tightens the fit and eliminates any rattling.

by:

The right accessory for anyone with a front hitch receiver that is required to have a front license plate on display on public roads.

Has held up great, fits great, and keeps me legal.

by:

This is extremely heavy duty and appears to be well made. It fit perfectly on the 2" front hitch we had installed to hold a bike rack when we go camping. I did have to purchase four 1" washers for a minimal price to keep the license plate on, as the holes are extremely large. I attached it with a locking hitch receiver pin and am ready to go!

by:

This is extremely well made and worked perfectly to relocate the tag on my truck to the receiver hitch. Added a light and plugged into the trailer wires. Curt quality!

by:

Fits front receiver hitch on my Chevy HD3500 crew cab. An excellent product to place a decorative license plate to hide receiver sticking through bumper.

by:

This thing is sturdy on my truck's front hitch. I bought a good clear plastic license plate cover to keep it protected. Add a hitch lock and you are good to go.

by:

I'm super happy with this product. It's perfect !

by:

Crimany this made in America steel product weighs over 7 pounds! Plate mounting slots a little large - fender washers worked for that - all installed on 2008 GMC Sierra with front receiver and using the Master lock stainless quick pin. (ML1465DAT) All from eTrailer.com of course!

by:

Product was the perfect solution to the problem. Needed to create an attachment point for a surf fishing rod holder - and license plate - on the front of my 2010 Tahoe 'beach buggy' Already had a front receiver installed on the vehicle.
Great customer service as well.

by:

I needed a way to mount the smv sign to the back of my side by side. this item works perfect. the sign hooks on with a couple of bolts and fits into my receiver.

Bruce

Works great for my smv sign on the back of side by side.

by:

Holder arrived on time and in good shape. Needed a couple of different sized washers to attached the plate, but no big deal. Looks good on the front of my truck, using the 65056 front receiver hitch.

by:

This is the second product I have ordered from Etrailer. Haven't received it yet but the front receiver hitch I got from them was great. The video made it so easy to install. The customer service has been awesome. I will definitely keep buying from these guys.

by:

The trailer hitch license plate holder was delivered as promised and it is excellent quality.
Thanks.

by:

The quality of this trailer hitch license plate holder far surpasses my expectations!

by:

Great quality and solid. Unfortunately I didn't need it for my truck. It would have been better to ordered a step that I would have use.
It serves its purpose for certain states.

by:

Got it painted to match the color of my front bumper replacement. Bracket is sturdy enough to be used as a pushbar! What a piece. Holes are a bit big, but work great with washers.

  • Front Mount Hitch for 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Pickup
I have attached a link to our front mount bolt-on hitches for 2008 Chevrolet Silerado 3500s for you. Both the Curt Front Mount Hitch # 31109 and the Draw-Tite Front Mount Hitch # 65050 have a 2 x 2 inch hitch receiver, a line pull maximum of 9,000 pounds, a vertical load max of 500 pounds, and a gross trailer weight max of 5,000 pounds. The Curt front mount hitch's receiver will sit just below the license plate on your vehicle. This hitch will provide an easier installation. I have attached...

  • Recommendation of Front Mount Hitch Receiver on a 1998 Ford Expedition 4-Wheel Drive for a Snow Plow
Looking at the installation between the front mount hitches that fit your 1998 Ford Expedition, the Curt, part # 31049, installs much higher where the license plate is normally mounted. The benfit is more ground clearance but you'll need to relocate your license plate using part # C31002. Also, on your Expedition that seems like an extremely high mounting point for a snow plow. The Draw-Tite, part # 65025, installs quite a bit lower, sitting under the front bumper and fascia. This takes...

  • Options For Mounting License Plate To Front Mount Hitch On 2000 Ford Excursion
Sorry to hear you got a ticket for the removed license plate on your 2000 Ford Excursion, but we may have an option that will work for you. To solve this problem, we offer is the Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch License Plate Holder, part # C31002. The license plate is mounted to the holder and then installed in the front receiver opening. If you need a pin and clip to secure the holder to the hitch I recommend part # PC3. This includes the pin and clip. for a locking hitch pin I recommend...

  • Front Mount Hitch for a 1998 Ford F-150 2WD
I spoke with my contact at Curt who said that your 2WD 1998 Ford F-150 doesn't come with the tow hooks which is why their front mount hitch # 31049 will not fit. When I asked if the hitch could be installed if you purchased and installed the front tow hooks he said it would be compatible then. So the reason you have been having trouble is because of those tow hooks not existing on your pickup. Sometimes the license plate mount part # C31002 will need to be installed as well but it doesn't...

  • Can I Reinstall the Tow Hooks After Installing the Curt Front Hitch on a 2021 Ram 1500?
I would be happy to clarify that for you! Curt's official stance on the tow hooks is they need to be removed to install their Front Mount Trailer Hitch item # C87FR on your 2021 Ram 1500. We had a customer send in the picture, that you saw, with the tow hooks reinstalled so it is possible but we have no idea how he did it or if this affects the weight capacity. Reinstalling the tow hooks goes against the manufacturer's instructions though so the etrailer answer is no you can not. Please...

  • Front Mount Hitch For A 1998 Ford F-150 & F-250
For your 1998 Ford F-150/250, I recommend the Curt Front Mount Trailer hitch # 31049. This trailer hitch is capable of handling a 500-lbs vertical load limit, a maximum line pull limit of 9,000-lbs, and a GTW of 5,000-lbs. Additionally, you may need a license plate relocation kit as the front hitch might cover the license plate. Should you need it, you can use the Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch License Plate Holder # C31002.

  • Will Front Hitch Work On 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 With Aftermarket Bumper
It looks like from the photo attached that you will have no issues installing an aftermarket trailer hitch like the Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C31069. That said, you'd need to trim the plastic under body panel for the receiver tube opening. This would then work well with the Curt Trailer Hitch Mounted Spare Tire Carrier part # c31006 and the Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch License Plate Holder part # C31002 when the spare tire carrier is not being used.

  • Fit of Roadmaster Hitch Mounted Spare Tire Carrier RM-195225 on 2017 Ram ProMaster 2500
It is likely that a spare tire on a hitch-mount tire carrier such as # RM-195225 that is used on your 2017 Ram ProMaster 2500 van would at least partially bock our left-door-mounted license plate. Just how much is blocked depends on the specific tire size. The 2017 ProMaster 2500 has one stock tire size, 225/75-16, and this tire's overall diameter is approximately 29-1/4-inches. Half of this diameter, just under 15-inches, would extend to both the right and left sides of the carrier's...

  • Comparing Curt and Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitches for a 2006 Dodge Ram and Winch
The Draw-Tite front hitch # 65046 is slightly less invasive than the Curt hitch # C31017 and thus will provide slightly less ground clearance but ultimately they are very close. The vertical pull capacity is basically like tongue weight on a rear mounted hitch. If you are not going to apply downward force to the hitch then the lower capacity of the Curt hitch should not be an issue. You mentioned using the hitch for a winch so there are some cases where vertical pull is a factor. For example...
