This setup is made for the big trailers—rated for 25,000 lbs gross towing weight and a 6,250 lbs vertical load limit. The sturdy steel build and carbide powder coat finish give it the backbone to handle heavy-duty miles. You can feel how solid it is when the jaws lock around the king pin—no looseness, no guesswork, just a firm, confident connection every time you hook up.

Before you roll out, a quick glance at the 3-point indicator shows exactly what’s happening inside the hitch—red means uncoupled, yellow means ready to couple, and green means you’re locked for towing. The system is visible from the cab, so there’s no need to climb in and check. The handle locks with a padlock (sold separately) and automatically resets to the ready-to-couple position after you unhook, keeping things simple and secure on every trip.

The torsion head design uses a spherical axial bearing that pivots smoothly in every direction. That flexibility keeps the ride calm and steady across uneven roads and cuts down on clunking or chucking between truck and trailer. The interlocking two-jaw system wraps the king pin for 360-degree contact, tightening up the connection for less rattle and a quieter tow.
When maneuvering at slow speeds, clearance is everything. The non-binding S25 slider moves the hitch up to 12" front to back so your trailer has room to clear the cab during tight turns. It locks automatically in both directions, so once it’s in position you can focus on steering instead of hopping out to latch it again. Designed for trucks with beds shorter than 8', it’s a practical feature that makes day-to-day towing much easier.
When it’s time to clear out the bed, pull a single pin to lift off the head—no tools required. Two built-in zerk fittings make lubrication easy, and the included plastic lube plate helps the king pin slide smoothly into place during hookup. With adjustable height from 17-1/2" to 21-1/2", it sets up cleanly every time while staying manageable when you need it out of the way.

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the CURT Universal Carbide Black Finish Fifth Wheel Base Rails. Now, these base rails will install in your truck bed. And they provide the necessary attachment points for your fifth wheel hitch installation. Now, when these rails are used with the CURT's Custom Mounting Brackets, which we sell separate on a website, these rails will cut in half the time it takes to install your fifth wheel trailer hitch.
We mentioned the finish on this. I'm gonna zoom in and sort of show it. It's a carbide black finish, sort of like a matte black finish, so it matches the finish if you use it on the CURT Q5 20K Fifth Wheel Hitch. Now, these rails are universal, so they will work with the following fifth wheel hitches. They work with the CURT brand, the Draw-Tite, the Hidden Hitch, the Reese, and even the Husky.
This part here will include the two base rails. Now, we mentioned the mounting brackets, the custom mounting brackets, the hardware, and an installation kit is all sold separately. The length on these rails, if we put a tape measure on them from one end to the other, right at 43 inches long. But that should do it for the review on the CURT Universal Carbide Black Finish Fifth Wheel Base Rails.

You are correct that the bolt location is difficult to access. I reached out to Curt who advised that depending on the application and installer, it can be easier to remove the wheels for additional working room.
