Yes, side marker lights can be added to your open utility trailer. When adding these lights you will just need to make sure that you do not exceed the amp rating of the trailer wiring harness.
In an effort to add lights to your trailer without exceeding the amp rating of the trailer wiring harness, I recommend going with an LED light like the Double Bullseye LED Trailer Clearance and Side Marker Light, # MCL45AB. This light draws a mere 0.087amps at 12.8 volts.
