Question:
The 4.80-12 tire has a c rating and states u should have 90 psi in the tires. Is this correct, am I reading this wrong?
asked by: Dale G
Expert Reply:
You are correct. That is a load range C tire rated for 990 pounds at 90 psi. Trailer tires should always be inflated to the maximum psi indicated on the tire. This is because trailer tires are built with a thicker sidewall than passenger vehicle tires.
If under inflated the thicker sidewall will generate excessive heat causing the tire to fail. I have included a link to our help article on trailer tires for you. I have also linked the 4.80-12 tires we carry. Tire # AM10062, which is the same size and load range as the tire you have, has the same 990 pound and 90 psi rating.
