Question:
I have a 2026 BMW X5 with factory tow package. 1. You don’t show any compatible products. I would think any brake controller would be compatible if you were to be able to terminate the wires into the BMW 4-pin connector as part of the tow package? 2. I am having problems finding installers that will deal with the BMW. Do you have recommendations. My zip code is 53072 Steve Woloschek

Hey Steve!
After doing some research, I can confirm that there isn't a plug-and-play brake controller available for your 2026 BMW X5. Installing one will require a splice-in wiring harness, like the one included with the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED52VR.
The installation is fairly straightforward, but you'll need to locate and test the individual wires on the X5 to identify the correct brake light signal, power, ground, and brake output connections before wiring in the controller.
For the splices, I recommend using heat-shrink butt connectors like the Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connectors # DW05744-10. You'll also need a crimping tool such as # PTW30764. These types of connectors provide a much more secure and weather-resistant connection than standard butt connectors.
One of the biggest advantages of the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty is its low-profile control knob. The main controller can be mounted out of sight, while the knob can be installed almost anywhere on the dash. A common location is near the steering column, or you can use the Universal Mounting Panel # 331-TPSI-001 if you'd like a cleaner, more factory-style installation in an available knockout panel.
As far as installation goes, I can't guarantee that every installer in our network will work on a BMW X5 specifically, but we do have a network of installers that we've vetted. You can use the "Installer Near Me" link below and enter your ZIP code to find installers in your area, then confirm with them that they're comfortable installing a brake controller on your X5.
What are you planning to tow with your X5, and how many axles does the trailer have?

I just installed the Liberty in my Dad's Sprinter RV. First, the Liberty uses standard LAN cable, cat5 or 6 where the Elite has a proprietary cable. This matters where distance to the knob is long. I simply identified the wires at the 4 pin controller plug and soldered the Redarc universal pigtail direct. If you have an accessory camera on your trailer you'll need a 'German car cam adapter/capacitor' to resolve the PWM lighting power. Also, there will probably be no brake signal unless yhe vehicle is running.
