Replacement for Dometic AC in 2013 Heartland RV Bighorn Silverado 5th Wheel

Updated 06/23/2026 | Published 06/19/2026

Question:

Replace/upgrade my old2013 a/c unit on my Heartland bighorn Silverado. I currently have 15000 btu ducted a/c unit manufactured by Dometic. Does not always work consistently ie fan on no a/c, a/c compressor on with no fan, not cooling sometimes etc. What are my options and how would I get heater to work with new units. What is quiet and easy start. Camp in desert heat.18000btu? Idk.

Hey Byron! For an 18k replacement unit I recommend the Furrion Chill Cube. This has a variable speed compressor making it incredibly efficient and quiet. Your old AC is going to be an R410A so it will require complete replacement for the new R32 systems. You can choose from the following:

-Furrion Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner w Air Distribution Box - Ducted - 18,000 Btu - Black # FR39TD

-Furrion Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner w Air Distribution Box - Ducted - 18,000 Btu - White # FR99TD

-Furrion Chill Cube RV AC w/ ADB, Thermostat - Ducted - White # FR69TD

-Furrion Chill Cube RV AC w/ ADB, Thermostat - Ducted - Black # FR49TD

All of these are designed for a ducted setup like yours. The units listed with a wall thermostat actually have a lower cost right now so I would go that route. Sometimes their wall thermostats have compatibility issues with a furnace, so you can also leave the old Dometic thermostat running the furnace separately if you run into an issue. The Chill Cube can run the AC off of the remote and air distribution box controls, it doesn't require the wall thermostat.

Where do you typically camp in the desert?
