Follow up on in boxes found top cover all screws and top piece screw holes broke on one side. As before when ups arrived unit was on truck on its side. I am found to have a new top shipped out to replace broken one
This order comes with 4 parts. AC unit, Air Distribution box, remote and Thermostat. One star is probably a little low but there are some significant shortcomings to the system. So by the numbers:
AC unit: its biggest improvement over my old model is how quiet it is. 5/5. Cooling power, definitely better than the old unit but only about 25%. My 40 ft trailer still needs both units to stay cool. 4/5. Fan- the fan runs continuously!! You cannot shut it off!!!! So my trailer is semi- permanently parked. If I leave the AC on even set at 80 degrees (when I’m not there)— the fan running. 1/5! If you try to use the furnace, the fan runs!! 0/5.
Air Distribution box: no issues 5/5
Remote: The remote connects via IR. So the range sucks. It won’t work over 10 feet from the unit. Don’t even dream of setting it by your bedside in the front of the trailer with the door closed. It won’t work. 1/5.
Thermostat: I was told I need this so I could control the furnace. Why my 2007 AC unit could control the AC unit and the furnace from the remote, and now 20 years later they can’t figure out how to do it is beyond me! Anyway, the thermostat is the world biggest piece of junk. It didn’t control the AC unit well and forget about the furnace. It would start the fan on the furnace but when the burner came on it shut off the furnace and the thermostat!! Of course during this whole time the fan in the ceiling AC unit is on. ?? Total junk. 0/5. I solved the problem by buying a dedicated heat only thermostat for the furnace. When I leave the RV but still want the AC one I use the 2nd older AC unit. So there’s a lot of good with the unit but some super annoying short coming.
After installing the unit on the RV when I 1st turned it on a thumping noise was coming from it. After removing the top plastic cover I discovered there was a small blanket cover that was velcro around the compressor sucked into and wrapped around the fan. After removing it from the fan,no harm was done to the unit but the blanket was destroyed. After several discussions with etrailer about sending me a new blanket and I would install it there solution was to remove and box up the ENTIRE UNIT and send it back for a replacement. Without going over just how much work and inconvenience that would have been I bought some material like what was on the compressor and made the blanket myself.
Etrailer, from a customer satisfactions view if your decision maker would have opened a new unit at your warehouse, removed and sent me the blanket etrailer would be getting another 5 star review.
I realize your not the factory that makes Furrion AC but I have to believe it would have been a lot easier than me removing, sending back then reinstalling another unit.
Much easier to install than I expected and my gosh is it quiet!
Amazing upgrade. At full power you can have a conversation without raising your voice even when standing right underneath it. Still uses up to 1200W at full power but it's a very slow ramp up to get there. Even at 600W the cool temperature at the vents is great. Definitely recommend this upgrade.
It’s Quiet and cools great.
Looks good. Cools well and us quiet. Directions were kind of hard to follow. But got it installed with me and my son. Ended up not installing the thermostat as it has one built in as well as on the remote.
Nice unit very quiet definitely puts out more air. We’ll buy and install more of these for customers.
What a great product! with the help of some of the tutorial videos, the install was easy! The old Thor Jazz 5th wheel I am remodeling has the ducted system, the Chill actually blew so hard dust, and lint blew out of the vents on ECO mode! amazing! Sound was minimal with the vents closed. ordered the thermostat as well but have elected not to use it and will install an upgraded furnace with a separate control.
Fast shipping. Excellent customer service. Paid a professional to install ac so we will see how it works after its done
Alright here's the deal... This was all delivered very quickly by UPS. Upon unboxing of the unit, it was discovered that at some point, either UPS or overseas shipment, the box was dropped at a rate to damage the upper rear corner of the shroud. etrailer has already worked on a replacement, so in the meantime, the unit was installed.
PROPANE FURNACE USERS (Specifically Dometic) if you are having major issues getting this to control the furnace, please follow my recommendation. First, the 12 volt supply from the wall thermostat converter box? Ignore that. Wires red and green. Don't bother. Why? Simple. This A/C unit will NOT power your wall thermostat if it is not connected to 120 volt (shore/generator/inverter), therefore control of a 12 volt furnace will NOT be possible without 120v. SOLUTION: Connect a CONSTANT 12 volt supply and ground to the wall thermostat. (In my case, I did indeed already have these up in the A/C area from an old Dometic unit, so they were reused.) Now, here's the next step: You may or may not have had TWO wires to control the furnace. If you did, do not use both of them in the two contacts on the wall thermostat. This wall thermostat does not "close the loop" exactly... So, terminate the 12v wire (do not use this for supply either, it WILL bug out and create a condition of the wall thermostat to flicker and kick the furnace on/off/on/off repeatedly). Now, the other wire that will not have voltage, connect this to the terminal FURN (+) behind the wall thermostat. Leave GND unpopulated. Now, the wall thermostat will always be ON as long as you have good batteries, will always control furnace in HEAT mode, and will control the A/C when it is powered by 120v. In ANY other mode than HEAT, you will have an error code on the wall thermostat if the main unit does not have 120v supplied to it. This can be ignored as it does not display in HEAT mode and does not matter in this instance. Also, verify the dip switch position on the back of the wall thermostat. Switch 2, ON for gas furnace. All others off. This will be different if you plan to control heat pumps or strips.
This unit is much quieter, much smoother in operation, and much more efficient than a standard model A/C.
I have not played with the remote as I find it unnecessary and unrefined. The temperature reading on the remote does not sync with the wall thermostat or unit controls.
In summary,
-Decent unit.
-Dometic propane furnace? Connect grounded furnace control wire to FURN (+). Ignore 12v supplied control wire. Connect CONSTANT 12v and ground to wall thermostat, not SWITCHED 12v from converter box to wall thermostat.
Enjoy the unit, integrated with your Dometic furnace.
The cooling is amazing, My only complaint is the thermostat doesn’t control my Dometic Heater which requires a separate thermostat for heating
