Recommended Hitch for a 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Updated 06/22/2026 | Published 06/18/2026

Question:

Your last answer indicated that there are 2inch hitches available for sedans. Is that correct? I have a 2011 sonata that I would like to tow not carry a dirt bike. Is that possible?

Hey Doug. Not sure who you talked to but there are no 2" hitches available for the 2011 Hyundai Sonata. However, that doesn't mean you can't tow your dirt bike.

To add a hitch to your 2011 Sonata, I recommend the Curt item # C11025. This is a class I, 1-1/4" hitch, with a 2,000 lbs towing capacity, and a 200 lbs maximum tongue weight. It fits all models of the 2011 Sonata with no exclusions for the sedan or even a hybrid.

We actually installed this hitch on a 2011 Sonata awhile back. I attached a couple of pictures below along with an installation video we made so you can see what it looks like and how to get it set up.

Here are the rest of the parts you'll need to tow a trailer with your 2011 Sonata:

4-Way Wiring Harness - Curt item # C56049. Please note this won't fit the hybrids.

Ball Mount - Curt Class II Drawbar item # C45521

Hitch Ball - 1-7/8" Hitch Ball item # A-80 or 2" Hitch Ball item # A-82

Locking Hitch Pin - etrailer item # e98879

What kind of dirt bike do you have?

I have a 2014 Hyundai Sonata and I put the default tow hitch on my car. I believe it was an inch and a half or something to that effect so I went to Harbor freight tools and got a converter to the 2 inch size. I probably should’ve paid more attention to the size but ultimately it worked out better because getting the conversion move the actual bike rack, Further from the car by about 5 to 6 inches. So this was the third hitch that I bought from eTrailer and they all have fit perfectly and performed just as intended. The tow hitch on the Hyundai was a little bit more work because you have to remove the exhaust shields, but you also have to drop the muffler exhaust hanger as well. If you follow the instructions, this is a fairly minor installation that works per spec, according to the instructions I hope this helps.
