Hello Andrew,
Thanks for writing in, I'm glad you found us!
The Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED52VR does not come with a plastic dash knockout panel, so you will need to add one for your 2017 Toyota Highlander. The correct fit is the Mounting Panel # 331-TPSI-002, which is made to snap right into one of the factory blank switch locations in your dash. It gives you a really clean, factory-looking finish and the best part is there’s no drilling required, so it keeps everything looking original and tidy.
This setup will use the universal splice-in wiring harness that comes with the # RED52VR, and that is exactly what your Highlander needs. There isn’t a plug-and-play adapter available for this vehicle, so you’ll be hardwiring the controller. Once installed, the knob sits flush in that mounting panel, making it look like it came that way from the factory.
When you’re wiring it in, you’ll be connecting to power, ground, the brake light signal, and the output wire to the 7-way at the back. Making solid, secure connections will help ensure smooth and consistent braking performance.
What kind of trailer are you going to be towing with brakes?
