Question:
I have a 2026 Grand Design Imagine AIM 16 mla. I would like to improve the suspension and was considering Sumo Springs. Not sure what kitinch to order and was hoping for help on that. Are there any other suggestions? It will get a lot of miles on it in the next few years and I want to protect the trailer as best I can. Thanks.

Hey Keith, congrats on the new camper!
Adding SumoSprings are definitely one way to help absorb road shock, smooth out the suspension and protect the trailer and its contents. I'd recommend those, and also an upgraded HD shackle/wet bolt kit. I'm not sure if your camper came from the factory with wet bolts, but if not, that is definitely a worthwhile upgrade. The HD shackles and wet bolts really help quiet down the suspension plus they are way more durable than typical stock suspension.
As far as SumoSprings, what you'll likely need is the following:
- SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs w/ Line Relocation Bracket - Single Axle - 3K to 5K - Underslung # TSS-106-40
This is for axles rated between 3,000 and 5,000 lbs and is for underslung axles where the leaf spring pack is located under the axle tube. There is also a kit for overslung but if I'm not mistaken, your camper has the underslung configuration. I'd just ask you to confirm that and the axle weight capacity before ordering. The axle sticker will show the weight capacity.
Then for the suspension kit, I recommend the Dexter Heavy Duty Suspension Upgrade Kit for Single Axle Trailers # K71-358-00. This comes with 1/2" thick HD shackles, wet bolts and bronze bushings. Not only will this help smooth out and quiet down the suspension, but with proper maintenance they can easily last the life of the trailer.
Those are definitely my top 2 upgrades that I think you will benefit from the most. A weight distribution hitch might also be something to consider but I'd say we can cross that bridge when we get to it if you notice excessive sway or if the tow vehicle is sagging when you're out on the road.

Hi this is Larry, I never got the chance to use them. I ordered them and installed them, however I ruined them by cutting them down to get a half inch gap between the spring and the frame. The half inch gap should be when you lift the wheel off the ground and install them, it should have approximately a half inch gap, then when you lower the trailer it should be compressed against the frame. I blew it it because when I lowered it, I thought there was supposed to be the half inch gap. Stupid me and loss of money by ruining them. Now I have to order new ones.

Thanks Jesse. I will take another look under the trailer and definitely follow up with you guys. Only one trip so far and just wanted to test everything. Just local state park. Very impressed with unit and no issues. My car does not support a weight distribution hitch so I bought the LIPPERT electronic sway controller. Car has self-leveling air bags. It pulls fine but I’m just trying to be proactive on protecting the unit by improving the suspension. Keith
