Recommended Class IV Hitch for a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Updated 09/01/2026 | Published 08/24/2026

Question:

Hello, Im looking for a hitch receiver for my 2012 Chevrolet Silverado. It was recommended that the Curt Class 4 Receiver Hitch Party 14301 is the best for for my vehicle. Your website lists this item at $235 roughly. Does this come with all of the hardware and equipment needed to bolt this in place? Please let me know. Ive currently got my truck in the shop to get it fine tuned. Im here in St Louis. Thank you

Thanks for supporting a local business Christopher! So long as your 2012 Chevrolet Silverado is a 1500 and you need a class IV hitch, the Curt item # 14301 is going to be the best option. It has a 2" receiver with a 10,000 lbs towing capacity and a 1,000 lbs tongue weight.

The Curt item # 14301 class IV hitch does indeed come with all the mounting hardware you'll need to complete the installation. The only additional equipment you'll need are a 12" extension along with a 3/4" and 22mm socket, which you'll need to supply yourself. Someone to help hold the hitch up while you're bolting it would be helpful as well.

I attached a couple of pictures below, along with an installation video we made so you can see what it'll look like and how to get this hitch installed.

If your Silverado 1500 doesn't have a 7-way connector but has the wiring behind the blank spot on the bumper, you can install the Twist-in, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector for Chevy and GMC Vehicles item # PK11916.

Now if your 2012 Silverado has the 4.3L V6 engine, I recommend the Curt Hitch item # 13301 instead. It tops out at 6,000 lbs of towing capacity but the 1500 models that came with that engine can only tow up to 5,500 lbs.

What kind of trailer are you pulling and what engine does your Silverado have? Feel free to answer this and throw in any other questions you have, where it says Add Comment.

Here is the vin number 1GCRKSE72CZ242128 if that helps with any information needed to get me the best items. My truck is currently in the job getting a fuel pump replaced and when they are done, I've got someone else who will help me with the trailer hitch. As far as 7 pin or 4 pin or what not. I didn't know what harness is there right now if any. I'll have more information when I pick it back up, unless you can get all of that from my vin #

@ChristopherK I could not get that information off of the VIN. It looks like you have the 5.3 V8 though. The Curt item # 14301 class IV hitch is definitely the one you'll want to go with.

I bought the same one for my '11 Sierra. Do yourself a favor (I figured it our mid-install) and hit your welded frame nuts with some brake cleaner to get the threads clean. Other than that, super easy to work with and everything lines up perfectly.

THE HITCH CAME WITH EVERYTHING NEEDED AND WAS VERY EASY TO INSTALL. I INSTALLED IT ON A FRIENDS TRUCK. I DO HAVE A LIFT AT MY SHOP. WHICH DEFINITELY MAKES IT EASIER. I THINK IT TOOK ME MAYBE 30 MINUTES TO REMOVE THE OLD HITCH AND INSTALL THE NEW ONE. WITH AIR AND ELECTRIC TOOLS.

@Steve That's quite the shortcut Steve! We all don't have lifts. Glad you were you able to get the Curt item # 14301 hitch installed so easily on your friends truck though. Thanks for coming back and sharing that feedback! I appreciate you taking the time.

Great hitch! Installed this hitch after I found my factory unit was in questionable condition. It arrived the day before I was to leave on a 6000 mile trip with a new travel trailer. So working flat on the driveway, I pulled the old one and installed the new one in about an hour by myself. Everything went very well and has worked flawlessly since. I would recommend it. By the way, I was 75 at the time, so should be a piece of cake for you!
