How to Know if 6 inch Drop of Andersen WD System # AN53VR Would Be Sufficient

Updated 04/13/2026 | Published 04/11/2026

Question:

I have a 2020 RAM 2500. The hitch sits a bit high. Should the 6inch drop be sufficient? Also, is this shank long enough that my tailgate will not hit the power jack controller and if not are longer shanks available? 9000 lbs trailer Thanks...

Hey George, 6 inches of drop like what the Andersen WD system part # AN53VR is capable of is normally enough for most towing setups that need a decent amount of drop but it really comes down to what your trailer needs. To determine that you would need to measure from the top of the hitch opening down to the ground as well as the distance from the lip of your trailer coupler to the ground. The height difference is the amount of drop you need.

This does have a pretty long shank as well so I would not anticipate any issues with the tailgate either. There isn't a longer version available. What kind of trailer do you have?

Thanks Jameson... I currently have a 5th wheel, but I am considering downsizing to one of the new Keystone Walkabout trailers. Either the 22MAX or the 26MAX... I guess I'll just have to trust the dealership to order and install the correct one If I go that route...

@George If you go the dealer route have them install it and make sure it looks right before you leave. I doubt you'll have a problem but if they sell you something if they have to install it and make it work its easier to make sure they get you the right stuff.
