Features to know about

Confidence on the Road: Built-In friction Sway Control

The hitch head houses a tapered ball and a blue cone made of anti-sway friction material. When you're pulling heavier loads, the weight forces the ball deeper into the cone so you have more friction applied. Instead of the spring bars that traditional weight distribution systems have, the Andersen weight distribution hitch has motion-dampening chains and a urethane spring, so when you hit a bump in the road or go over a bridge, the chains pull front-to-back (instead of the up and down motions spring bars have), and the spring absorbs the bounce. This gives you a stable, smooth ride even when your driving through curves, uneven roads, or wind.

Smoother, Quieter Ride:

This hitch smooths out dips, bumps, and bouncing. Simple maintenance (like light cleaning) and the greaseless system stays quiet mile after mile.

Lightweight but Solid: Under 60 lbs and Easy to Handle

Unlike traditional systems that are hard to lift or install, this setup is lightweight and doesn't require a pry bar. It's strong, simple, and easy to store when not in use.

No Disconnect Needed: Back Up Without Removing the Hitch

Whether you're parking at camp or repositioning on the road, this hitch lets you reverse freely without unhooking. It's a game-changer for solo travelers or anyone who doesn't want to waste time.

Alot less bouncing with this hitch than the one I was using...easy on and off...way lighter

Product is well made. Getting the position of the brackets on the trailer A-frame is tricky. I had to move them when I noted that there is a limited amount of threads on the chain bolts so too loose or too tight can't be corrected if the brackets are over an inch one way or the other.

Install instructions and you tube video made the process easy. Hitch worked as advertised on a test drive. Time will tell after some long distance tows. I am happy with the lighter weight than other wdhs.

  • Recommended Sway Control w/out Having to Use a Weight Distribution Hitch
Hey Bill. The best option to address sway without using a weight distribution hitch will be to use the Curt True Course item # C94VV. This is an electronic sway device that mounts directly to the side of your trailer's tongue and plugs into your 7-way connector. It has sensors built into it that sense when the trailer is swaying and applies the brakes to pull the trailer straight. What kind of trailer do you have and why aren't you interested in a weight distribution hitch?

  • Best Weight Distribution System For A 2020 R-Pod 195 Being Towed By A 2013 GMC Yukon Denali
Hi Doug! If you were just needing a weight distribution system for the sway control, I would have said the Andersen Weight Distribution Hitch w Sway Control - 6" Drop/Rise - 14K GTW, 1.4K TW # AN53VR could be a good option. However, I have tried one of these with my 16 Silverado 1500 and it didn't really do much of anything when trying to use it for actual weight distributing purposes. With a 2020 R-Pod 195 weighing 4,762 pounds when fully loaded (this is the 3,587 dry weight plus the...

  • Can I Back Up My Forest River Camper With Andersen Weight Distribution Hitch Attached?
Good afternoon Drake! Yes you are in luck, because the Andersen Weight Distribution Hitches, like a lot of modern ones, do allow you to reverse while hooked up to your trailer. The reason this can, and some can't, comes down to if it uses certain types of friction bars. This uses chains and a friction ball head design, so you are all good, whereas something like the Curt Round Bar WDH # C17063 doesn't allow backing up due to the friction bars. For a really nice Andersen setup, I'd go with...

  • Comparing the Andersen Weight Distribution Systems To Friction Bar Systems
Hey there Layla! There are a few different forms of weight distribution hitches, but the majority of the systems that have sway control use friction bars, which work similar to brake pads on your vehicle. This works really well, but it can sometimes be noisy since it is adding friction to one of the side bars to limit sway. The way the Andersen hitches are different comes down to the lack of friction bars, which makes it a quiet and simpler system to install and use. Basically the Andersen...

  • Picking Out Andersen Weight Distribution System And Adjusting It For A Level Truck And Trailer
Hey there Michelle! While weight distribution systems are supposed to get the truck and trailer as level as possible, they are not complete miracle workers and won't make both 100% level in all situations. In fact, Andersen has a section of the instructions where they go over this exact topic as you can see in the image below. Basically it says that it's okay if the rear of the tow vehicle is slightly sagging and the trailer is level, just make sure the sag is not dramatic. One thing...

  • How Does Andersen Weight Distribution Reduce Sway Without Friction Bars?
Nicki, that is an excellent question that we've gotten before. The Andersen weight distribution hitches work in a totally different way from competitors which allows it to remain lightweight, not bulky, and easy to install or remove. The chains you see are there to keep the trailer and truck as level as possible and are the actual weight distribution components. But as far as sway control goes, there is actually a friction cone in the head which allows weight to push the hitch ball into...

  • Can I Use Weight Distribution Hitch On 2023 Silverado 2500 With OEM Built In Electronic Sway Control
Good morning Hurley (cool name by the way. I like the clothing brand Hurley). Also, congrats on the new-to-you Chevy! That is an excellent question that comes up from time to time on various vehicles and weight distribution systems. So on your 2023 Silverado 2500, and any other applicable vehicle, you'll want to turn off / disable the OEM electronic sway control so that you can use a weight distribution system like the Andersen WDH with 4" Drop/Rise - 16K GTW, 1.6K TW # AN33VR you were...

  • Can I Use Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shank Or Other Brand With Andersen Weight Distribution?
Good afternoon Daniel, great question! Typically the Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shank - 2-1/2" Hitches # 325-GH-1302 can be used with other systems as most brands of WDH use the same size shanks, but in the case of Andersen, the answer is no. The reason for this is because Andersen uses their own proprietary weight distribution shank/head and it's not interchangeable among other brands. It sounds bad, but it's actually quite good because the Andersen setup is far less bulky, way...

  • Can I Open Truck Tailate With Andersen Weight Distribution Hitch Installed?
Good afternoon Shiela. You can definitely open the tailgate with the Andersen WDH attached to the truck and trailer; the system doesn't stick up higher than the shank or pose any other issues. The only thing I'm worried about is the trailer's tongue jack, which is typically in the way, so you'll want to look at that area before trying to drop the tailgate. But don't worry about the Andersen WDH itself. What vehicle and trailer are you using on your adventure? I can try to narrow down...
