Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the Malone Xpress TRX-S Scupper Kayak Beach Cart with the balloon tires. Now this large cart makes it real easy to transport your scupper style sit on top kayak around all by yourself. The scupper kayaks are the sit on top kayaks that have the molded in drain holes that they call scuppers. And those vertical holes is what connects the boat deck to the water beneath it.
And they may be in the cockpit, the foot walls, or the tank well of your kayak. And there's typically between one to six scupper holes on a kayak. That's what's nice with this cart is these padded vertical posts are designed to insert into those scupper holes and the kayak will rest on these horizontal posts. So it makes it real easy to move your kayak around all by yourself. These posts are padded.
They will protect your hull, keep the boat steady while you're transporting it. And the diameter on these with the foam is about one inch. What's nice about this cart also, these posts can be adjusted horizontally in or out from as small as about 3 and 1/4 inches up to about 16 inches wide to accommodate most scupper holes. I'll show you how to do that. I'm gonna roll it around to the back so you can see the knobs here.
These black adjustment knobs, you just loosen them. And once you have 'em loose then the post will slide along the crossbar. You can see it's anywhere from the 3 and 1/4 inches all the way out to 16 inches wide. So once you find the position you need for your application, go ahead and tighten these down and they'll stay in that position. And then the other nice thing is these posts can also be adjusted vertically about four inches.
Right now, I have it in the lowest setting. There's another hole up here, you can slide the post up and gain about four inches in height, so there's a low or high setting. And the way to change it is you just pop out this clip, like right here and then that allow that post to slide up to the highest one, put your pinning clip back in and then you gained about four inches. So it's pretty simple to adjust both horizontally and vertically. This one I'm gonna drop back into the lower position, put our pin and clip back in. And once we get it through there we'll go ahead and clip it. And now you're ready to go. We mentioned the balloon tires. What's nice about those, they'll roll easily over sand and other soft terrain. So it's great for use on beaches. Now, this part also includes this nice hand pump here. This hand pump is used for inflation of the tires. It comes with a couple different fittings that'll even allow you to pump air into some of your water accessories. And also what's nice is this cart will disassemble for nice, easy portability. The wheels pop right off the frame. These posts come out, so you can lay them flat if you happen to take them with you in the kayak and you could put it under some netting to hold it in place. But just to show you how that comes apart, what we'll do is if you look on the side here on the end of the axle there is a button. Spring loaded button that you just push, that'll release that tire and we'll do the same over here. Push that button and that'll pop off this tire. Oops. And then as we mentioned you can pop these clips right here. Pop this clip and then you can slide your post all the way out. Same on this one. Lay everything flat. What I would probably recommend doing is to put your clips back in here so you don't lose them. That way it'll keep everything together. And then again, just let your post in there, put your tires with it and you can see everything lays pretty much flat. Now, the frame, it's a Marine-grade aluminum frame, has a nice silver anodized surface finish to it. Resists corrosion. Few specs on this. The load capacity is 250 pounds. The weight on this when it's all put together is about 12 pounds. Last thing I wanna do is put it together and I wanna give you a few last dimensions. So what we're gonna do is go ahead and pop this back on. And we'll go ahead and pop this tire back on. And then again, we'll take our clips out. This clip out. And we'll go ahead and slide our post back in. And again, just line it up to whatever height you need for your kayak. Clip it into place. We'll do the same over here. Line the pinhole up, clip it into place and now you're all ready to go just like that. Dimensions I want to give you. The width of this, from this end to this end is about 36 inches wide. The height of this, from the very bottom to the very top of the post, again, it's gonna be in the low or the low position like it is now is 27 inches tall. If we moved it up four inches to the highest position, would be 31 inches tall. But that should do it for the review on the Malone Xpress TRX-S Scupper Kayak Beach Cart with the balloon tires..
Don’t buy the Hobie sand cart for twice as much. This is WAY better! Real air-filled tires vs. cheap plastic hollow wheels. Fully adjustable aluminum frame with soft rubber cushions. The quality of this item is superior to anything Hobie offers, and half the price. Very happy with this product and the communication of this company. Top notch!
It works great to haul my Hobie fishing kayak over deep sand. It is painted steel not stainless so I hope it lasts around the salt water. (my bad for not checking) I don't submerge it and wash it thoroughly after each use but the salt environment is tough on painted steel. The thumb screws that hold the uprights in the proper width come loose so I marked the location that works for my kayaks with a paint pen so I can get them back in adjustment quickly. I will probably "Loc-tite" those once I'm satisfied that I have them set right. I have been using the small Hobie wheel cart for years and this rolls much better in the sand for about half the cost of the Hobie sand cart.
It's terrific! I'm a strong 70 year young gal, but pulling my kayak across the beach with the skinny tire wheels was not fun. The beach trailer is wonderful. I'll be ejoying the lake more often. Thanks etrailer!
Awesome product for my hobie, the best part is it's adjustable so it should work for most kayaks
Look like they are sturdy enough with wheels big enough to get over the rocks and sand at the beach where I launch from but haven’t used them yet.
I need one more set!
Great job
Just make sure your scupper dimensions match the tolerances indicated or you will be modifying the spacing.
Rugged and adjustable
Cart broke on first use. I contacted customer service and was having email conversations and they just went off radar.

Easy peasy quality item. Now give me a weekend with sun and flat ocean. No regrets upon first assembly, I know it will work at launch time.
Works great with my old town sportsman auto pilot
Does the job nicely.
