What Leaf Spring and U-Bolt Kit do I Need for My 2019 Keystone Cougar 26RBS?

Updated 04/02/2026 | Published 03/25/2026

Question:

Need recommendations on leaf spring for 2019 cougar 26rbs. Mine measure 25.5 x 1.75. May be slightly stretched? What is standard for my unit and what would be an upgrade? I just replaced stock shackles and equalizer with morryde cre3000 with wet bolts. Should have thought ahead for springs.

Hello Sean,

I do not have a database that shows exactly what components are installed on each individual trailer, but based on my research, you should have a tandem axle setup with each axle rated at 4,400 pounds. You can check the axle tag to confirm the weight. If yours are rated for something other than 4,400 pounds, just let me know.

You will want to go with the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,400 lb Trailer Axles Long # DX95CR. These measure 25 1/4", which lines up with your 25 1/2" measurement since, as you mentioned, springs will stretch over time. I know you asked about an upgraded leaf spring, and you will want to stick with what your axle is rated for, as having a leaf spring that is too stiff can lead to a rougher ride and transfer more shock into the trailer frame and components over time. These are sold individually, so you will need 4 if you are replacing all of them. At a minimum, I recommend replacing both springs on the same axle so they match.

It is not recommended to reuse your u-bolts since they also stretch over time. You will need to order 2 of the CE Smith U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 5.2K to 7K Round Trailer Axles - 7" Long U-Bolts - Zinc # CE23003, as you will need one kit per axle.

Have you had a chance to test out the CRE3000s yet? If so, did you notice a difference? Are you getting everything ready for your next adventure? Where are you headed, and what are you most excited to see?

@SeanM My pleasure Sean! Alaskan Caravan would be amazing! I have a lot of ladies from my women's group that have made the trip, they all agree that there is nowhere like Alaska. Definitely on the top of my list of places I need to explore =) - Safe Travels

Sean M, I had to replace mine last year on my 2013 Keystone Sydney Fifthwheel. I removed the old one and removed all weight from other one and measured the hole width. If you have pressure on them you will get wrong measurements. I almost ordered wrong one.

@BrandonR Yes, very important to get the measurement with the weight off of it, I usually include that in my leaf spring questions. I really appreciate you pointing that out Brandon.
