Picking Out Replacement Trailer Leaf Spring for 3,500 lb Axle that is 25-1/4 inch Long

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 10/03/2024

Question:

My boat trailer has 3,500 lb tandem axles with 33 inch axle spacing. The existing 25 1/4 inch long springs have 1 leaf. The only 1-leaf spring that I see on your website is a 6,000 lb spring. Can this be used on a 3,500 lb axle or should I go with a 3,500 lb 4-leaf spring? If I do need to use the 4-leaf springs what length u-bolts do I need to mount the springs to my 2 3/8 inch round axle?

Hey Thomas, the most important factors for picking out a replacement leaf spring for a trailer are matching axle capacity and length. Getting the same amount of leaves in the spring pack is actually not a huge priority so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

Your best option is the part # DX23CR which is correct length and capacity.

If you went with the higher rated 6k part # e46SR you'd have a really stiff ride quality.

Hey Thomas, how did the 4-leaf springs work out on your boat trailer? I'm curious if the ride quality felt smoother compared to your old setup. Your feedback could help others choosing between those spring options.
