Will Installation of Progressive Dynamics 9300 Series Converter Charger Require Changing Wiring

Updated 03/03/2026 | Published 02/19/2026

Question:

Hello - I have a 1984 Airstream International and am upgrading to AGM batteries and am considering the PD79RR. Wondering if it is a plug and play or will I have to upgrade / change any wiring? I am ok with a slower charge time if that saves rewiring work. Thanks -

Hey Scott! I can't say for sure since I don't know what you have on your 1984 Airstream. The Progressive Dynamics 9300 Series # PD79RR has a 60A output so you want 6 AWG copper wire running to your power center/distribution panel. For the battery cable, you need to follow the chart below which is based on distance.

Compare this to what you have now to see if new wire will be required. I also attached the complete instructions further down on this page for your reference.

What trips are you planning after you upgrade your batteries?

Got it. Thanks for the reply. It turns out that the original converter, which still works after forty years, is 45 amp. So Im going with the 40 amp new one. But before I order Ill confirm the cable size. The run to the batteries is only 3 ft.
