Question:
Good morning. I know you get these questions often on RV A/Cs, so here is mine.... I have a 2018 Open Range Light 295FBH and need to replace the Brisk Air 2 it has never been able to keep up. I am looking for an AC that has enough power to actually get air to the back bedroom. My initial research leads me to the Furrion Chill Cube...but which one as there are multiple options for the ducted version. What are the differences in the FR39TD and FR49TD? I would perfer the black color. Is there a better option out there? I also have read the issues with the thermostat not working with the propane heaters...is that still an issue? Thank you for helping me on this.

Hey Robert! We do get a lot of AC questions and I'm happy to help answer yours. For your 2018 Open Range Light 295FBH the Chill Cube is absolutely the best option. This has an incredibly high cooling capacity at 18k btu and will be able to push air back to that bedroom. It is also efficient and quiet, making it the best AC on the market right now.
The # FR39TD is the AC unit with the air distribution box (ADB). The # FR49TD has the same AC unit and ADB, but also includes the wall thermostat. I'm not sure why it has a lower cost right now but that is the way to go.
Regarding the wall thermostat, if you have it you might as well see if it works with your furnace. However, there have been a lot of compatibility issues so I typically don't recommend using it. If your existing wall thermostat can run the furnace on its own that is the best option. If it can't, and the Furrion won't do it, you can use a simple furnace thermostat like # DMC84RR (for 2-wire setups). The AC will run off of the remote and ADB controls, and the furnace will be controlled separately.
It is also worth mentioning that the heat pump model is about to be released. If you would like to have the heat pump you need # FR97TQ or # FR27TQ (with wall thermostat).
Where are you headed next with your Open Range?
