Will Furrion Chill Cube Work as Replacement for Atwood Air Command with Furnace?

Updated 08/04/2025 | Published 07/31/2025

Question:

Im replacing a black Atwood Air Command ducted 13,500 BTU A/C on my 2015 Grand Design 5th wheel. Does the FR49TD include everything I need to directly fit and work with my Atwood furnace? Will I need to replace my thermostat wire as well? If so, is it included?

Hey Steve, thanks for reaching out!

The Furrion Chill Cube # FR49TD does come with everything needed to replace your Atwood Air Command, and the thermostat does have wiring provisions to connect to a furnace (see attached photo).

Are you planning on installing this yourself, or having a shop do it for you?

Thanks. I do plan on installing myself. I'm familiar with the install and blue furnace wires.

Based on another person's question and answers, it looks like the standard suburban/Atwood 2 blue loop wire furnace connection may not actually work with the Furrion since it only has a 12+ and GRND to connect to. Is that true and if so, I'll need to install a separate furnace only thermostat. I also can't find the FR49TD installation manual. Usually, Etrailer has a link to download, but I don't see it?

@SteveF Here is the manual for the 18K Chill Cube you're talking about - https://lci-support-doc.s3.amazonaws.com/furrion_comfort/air_conditioners/aftermarket/ccd-0009327.pdf - I've also sent in a request to have it added to our site. And here is the installation manual for the thermostat - https://lci-support-doc.s3.amazonaws.com/furrion%20documentation/air%20conditioning/manuals/ccd-0008973.pdf I was able to find that answer page you referenced, and I would follow the troubleshooting steps presented, and get a separate mechanical thermostat if need be. This is something we're unfortunately uncovering more and more of with these new AC units in that we've been told by the manufacturers that features will work with older units, and then slowly finding out that it's been more hit and miss than we would like - so I'm sorry about that.
