Question:
I am looking for a rack for my 2016 Prius 3. Comparing Hollywood Trailrider and Swagman TILT. Will I be able to open the rear hatch with bikes on the rack with Trailrider? Also will either of these racks work for my 1995 Mazda Miata?

Hello Don,
Great question, being able to get into the hatch of your Prius would be important to me as well.
You will want to go with the Swagman XTC2 TILT # S64671 because it solves the exact concern you mentioned about getting stuck at the trailhead with the rear hatch blocked. Unlike the Hollywood Trail Rider, this rack tilts down even with the bikes loaded, so you can open the rear hatch on your Prius without unloading everything just to grab water or a bag. That makes a big difference when you are mid-ride or packing up at the end of the day.
It also gives you the steady, confidence-inspiring haul you are looking for. The platform design with wheel trays and ratcheting frame hooks keeps the bikes stable, and once it is tightened down in the hitch it stays solid and quiet on the road. Whether you are heading out for a long highway drive or just a quick local run, it is designed to feel secure and hassle free.
Another big advantage is that it fits both 2 inch and 1-1/4 inch receivers, so it will work on your Prius and your Miata as long as each has the appropriate hitch installed. That means one rack for both cars, easy to install, clamps down smoothly, and ready to go whenever you are.
What kind of bikes do you have? Do you have a specific trail you like to ride? Our biggest trail out here in Missouri that is always loaded with bikes is the Katy Trail.

Hi Don, I have the trail rider that I use on a 2013 Audi cabriolet and it works great. I am able to access my trunk with the bikes on the rack but, just barely. It really will depend on the vehicle. I would recommend you purchase a rack that is designed to tilt with the bikes loaded if you have that concern. In addition, the upright holding the bikes can be folded down for bike loading for ease but it is not designed to tilt while the bikes are loaded. Also, I use my rack for 1 e-bike and one mt bike, which is within the wt rating of the rack, two e-bikes loaded simultaneously would be above the wt rating. So if you plan to carry two e-bikes look for a heavier duty rack. Overall I am very happy with the quality and ease of use and will purchase another hollywood rack when I need to haul two e-bikes in the future. Good luck, Jim

Howdy! The Hollywood Trail Rider is awesome, but it doesn't not make it easy to get into the tailgate of an SUV. I have a Santa Fe and I have to take the bikes off and lower the center post to get into the tailgate. BUT - everything else is dang near perfect. It's lightweight and easy to move around. It can go into a 1.5" receiver or a 2" receiver with the adapter. The bikes are super secure and fit nicely. We usually use it when we go to Colorado for vacation and on that trip we rarely need in the back of the SUV so the tilt isn't anything we needed which is why we went with the Hollywood version. Hope that helps and good luck finding our bike rake!

Is the Curt C11473 trailer hitch receiver a good match for the Swagman tilt on my 2016 Prius. I don’t see any hitches listed for a 1995 Mazda Miata, any recommendations?

We have had ours for a number of years now with no problems. The bikes are easy to put on the rack and are secure. We put our rack on our GMC pickup. The only negative, not much of one, is that the rack can at times sway up and down.
