Will Curt Front Hitch Fit 2020 Ram 1500 With Active Air Dam

Updated 02/09/2026 | Published 02/04/2026

Question:

I want to purchase a front receiver hitch for my 2020 Ram 1500 no front hooks. The truck has a shaft that goes across for the active air dam actuator motor. In the installation video on your website I dont see that shaft or the spoiler for the air dam. Can you please advise if that shaft would be in the way of installation of the hitch? i am going to have my dealer install the hitch. I dont want to purchase and then have to return. Looking forward to your reply. Thank you

Hey Alhussein! The Curt Front Hitch # C87FR will fit your 2020 Ram 1500 with the active air dam. You can see it in the photo below from the Curt installation instructions. We have also had a lot of reports from other Ram owners who successfully installed this with the active air dam. The only reason it wouldn't fit is if you have the Rebel or the diesel engine.

What will you be using the hitch for?

Thank you Robin for your reply. My Ram is not a Rebel or Diesel Engine so we are good. I will go ahead and place an order with you guys. I am going to use it to install a Home Plow made by Meyers. I have had it for the past 6 years and was using it successfully on a 2006 Nissan Frontier. I use the plow only at my home and my daughter’s home. Again Thank you Hussein

@AlhusseinS awesome, I really like the Meyer HomePlow. That is something new to us here. If you find your height is off we have the 2" Drop Extension # ME96FR and 4" Drop Extension for Meyer HomePlow # ME95FR available as well.

You do have to remove the air dam for installation, after your done just bolt it back up no issues. I will tell you the hitch is a little difficult to access because it sits back under the bumper but you’ll figure it out.

I love it for my bikes I got stuck on ice and use ball for the chain to pull me out thinking about putting a winch for snow and ice .

I have 2022 Ram 1500 5.7 crew I removed the air dam which does really do anything unless you are on the highway and even then doesn’t really save much on gas. Anyway I have the Meijer plow that I use just for my driveway and I bent it. I didn’t abuse it either. I since bought a different one which is much better, if you do search there is only one other one that will work and is much better. I also bought an adjustable clamp that tightens down any attachment that you use. If want more information let me know and I will tell exactly what they are. Good luck

The hitch components are designed to work around the drop down air dam rod that rotates the air dam down when you reach a certain speed. I forgot to mention my truck is a 2024 Ram 1500. The most difficult part of the installation was removing and installing the screws holding the front air dam (the one on the front you can see) it is hard to reach them but once it’s done you enjoy the hitch forever. One other note the hitch pin hole sets behind the air dam instead of crawling under my truck ever time I cut slits in the air dam enough to be able to place my hitch pin thru. My truck is two wheel drive and sets low you don’t notice the slits and it did not harm it structurally and cause it to rattle at high speed. With the absence of tow hooks I bought a screw pin shackle hitch in case I need to be pulled out if I become stuck I also use the hitch for a canoe loader and bike rack.
