Is The Weigh Safe Aero Hitch Ball Mount WS87MR A True 10" Drop?

Updated 12/19/2025 | Published 12/16/2025

Question:

I have a 1993 F250 XL, and I want to know if this hitch has a true 10 inch drop. the top of the ball sits 10 inch down, not the bottom of the ball housing. Thank you!

Hey Elle, thanks for reaching out. You asked a good question so I went and grabbed one of the Weigh Safe Aero Hitch # WS87MR from our warehouse so I could measure it. In the lowest position, from the center of the hitch pin hole to the top of the ball platform is about 9". From the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball is about 7". So, while this is technically classified as a 10" drop because of the adjustment holes, it is not a true 10" drop when you measure the actual height of the ball. I put a tape measure on it and took a picture for you. Hope this helps!

Let me know if there is anything else I can do.

Thanks so much for the excellent information. Do you have any hitches available that have a true 10" drop and can haul up to 10,000 lbs?

@Elle Yes so for a true 10" drop measured from hitch pin to center of ball you would actually want a 12" drop ball mount. Weigh Safe doesn't make one but we do have one from Gen-Y that will work great. Take a look at the following: - Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers - 2" Hitch - 12-1/2" Drop - 16K # 325-GH-526

@Elle I don’t understand what Jesse is talking about with the hole measurement but mine is a “true 10” drop.

Hi Jesse, mine is a “true 10” drop “ I have a 2005 lifted F350 and with a straight hitch on it it’s 29 1/2” to the top of the ball. When I put your hitch on it in the lowest position it is 19 1/2” . These measurements are from the ground. Let me know when you get this message.

@DanaC Thanks for the feedback! I guess it really depends where you measure from. I was referring to the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball. With the ball mount in the lowest drop position that measurement is about 7".

@JesseM if you put the ball in the top holes and then put the ball in the lowest hole it is a “true 10” difference. I love my hitch. I haul tractors.

@DanaC That makes sense! Glad to hear you are happy with the hitch, and thanks for taking the time to share!
