Comparing Trailer Mate, Curt, and etrailer Hitches for 2019 Toyota Highlander

Updated 12/17/2025 | Published 12/16/2025

Question:

Looking at these three hitches and they all appear to be about the same. It is the e98844, C13200, and TMT39FR. Can you tell me what the difference is? Is there a reason the Trailer Mate one has a lower price? Thank you.

Hey Howard! I would be happy to compare these hitches for your 2019 Toyota Highlander. The Curt # C13200 and etrailer # e98844 share the same design so the only difference is the finish. I prefer the matte black finish on our hitch since it does a better job hiding dirt and tends to blend well with OEM trim.

The Trailer Mate Trailer Hitch Receiver # TMT39FR has a very similar design but there are a few key differences. The most noticeable is the lower capacity. This has a max gross trailer weight of 5,000 lbs (compared to 6k on the others) and tongue weight of 500 lbs (compared to 900 lbs) This is designed to be a budget friendly option so the welds aren't as strong and you're missing the collar around the receiver. This also cannot be used with a weight distribution hitch.

What will you be using the hitch for? If you're planning on doing some serious towing I would go with the Curt or etrailer hitch. If you will be doing some occasional light towing, or only using accessories like a cargo carrier/bike rack, the Trailer Mate is probably the better option and will save you some money.

The Trailer Mate Trailer Hitch Receiver is the lightest by almost 11 pounds. I didn't need a super heavy-duty hitch, but I am sure it could handle anything that you would need to tow. It looks better to me and is partially hidden.
