Can 2026 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid Factory Hitch Be Replaced With Aftermarket

Question:
Brand new Toyotas Corolla cross hybrid 2026. Toyota installed hitch - 100 pound carrying capacity and entry point is THRU the bumper - can NOT remove bike rack readily. Can I get a new hitch installed so there is access UNDER the bumper ?

Hi Betsy; I believe that is the Toyota part number PT228-16221. Assuming that is correct, it looks like the installation instructions show the hitch installing in the same location. You won't be able to install them together but you can remove the factory hitch and add the Draw-Tite # DT28GR. The receiver will sit below the bumper as seen in the attached photo.
However, I would verify that part number with Toyota and ask them if they foresee any other issues with removing the factory hitch. There may be some kind of variation if it comes installed from the factory that won't allow it to be removed without other parts or modification.
What kind of bike rack do you have?

Hi Betsy, did you get a chance to check with Toyota about removing that factory hitch and switching to the Draw-Tite option that sits below the bumper? It’d be great to hear if that setup gave you easier access for your bike rack. Your update could help others with the same Corolla Cross hybrid setup.
