Question:
Hi Kevin, I'm considering a hitch mounted cargo carrier for my 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid. I just saw that there are class 111 hitches for my vehicle that are recommended for hybrids. Is it necessary to use a hitch that is specifically for hybrids? Would a hitch for gas powered vehicle installed on a hybrid potentially be a problem? Are the hitches for hybrids as strong as those for gas powered? Thanks. Mary

Hi Mary,
There can be differences in the way components under the vehicle are ran that can change how a trailer hitch will need to be shaped to fit depending on the model type. I spoke with EcoHitch and they stated that they haven't tested the # EH87CR on a non-hybrid model yet so they just can't confirm that it will fit. Since their design is unique there's not another brand using the same mounting holes to compare it to.
The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT28GR is a class III hitch that's listed without the same stipulations as the # EH87CR because it installs sandwiched between the bumper beam and frame. It's a hidden design just the like the EcoHitch with only the receiver tube and safety chain loops showing. EcoHitch is a more premium brand and has a higher capacity (3k GTW/450 TW) but is also more quite a bit more expensive than the Draw-Tite.
If you're wanting more capacity the # EH87CR is going to be the way to go. If your load is going to be less than 2,000lbs GTW or 300lbs TW and you don't want to spend the extra money the # DT28GR would be the way to go.
If you plan on towing a trailer or adding lights to your cargo carrier at some point you'll also want the Tekonsha # TK24CR (LED tail lights) or the # TK25VR (non-LED tail lights).

Hey Mary, how did things go with the hitch for your Corolla Cross Hybrid? Did you end up choosing the EcoHitch or the Draw-Tite option for your cargo carrier? Your update could make it easier for others comparing those two setups.
