Truck Bed Extender for 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 Carrying Lumber

Updated 12/01/2025 | Published 11/03/2025

Question:

Hello, There are numerous truck bed extenders out there, and they all seem to have the same problem with fit and finishmeaning they have a loose fit and are poorly manufactured. I am looking for the one which will allow me to haul full length lumber 8-12ft and not worry it will break the extender or rattle around due to quality issues. I have a late model GMC 2500 HD AT4 with a 68inch bed and have to pull my utility trailer 120 miles round trip for just a few pieces of lumber. Please help... Thanks! Phil

Hey Phil! A truck bed extender like the Flint Hill Goods Truck Bed Extender # FHG89ZR won't break unless you exceed the 350 lb capacity. However, when it comes to rattling it is somewhat unavoidable when you extend anything like this out and away from the single attachment point at the hitch.

The best thing you can do is add an anti-rattle to cut down on the extra movement. I'm assuming you have a 2-1/2" factory hitch on your Sierra so you can use the Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer III for 2-1/2" Hitch with 2" Adapter # BX88312. This is specifically designed for a 2-1/2" hitch using a 2" accessory so it is the best option. If you need a reducer sleeve you can use the BTBRV Magnetic Hitch Receiver Reducer Sleeve # BTBRV64FR.

Hey Phil, how did the Flint Hill Goods bed extender work out on your GMC 2500 HD? Did the anti-rattle setup with the Blue Ox immobilizer help keep things steady on your lumber hauls? Your update could make it easier for others hauling long loads to find a solid setup.
