Video Transcript for Review of Flint Hill Goods - Roof and Truck Bed Extender - FHG89ZR

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this Flint Hill Goods Truck Bed Extender for two inch hitches, has a 350 pound weight capacity. Now this load extender will help you safely and easily transport longer loads with your truck or your SUV. Basically you can see this base right here is gonna slide into your vehicle's two inch hitch receiver, and you can see it extends it out with an angle for clearance. It will get you a total length from your hitch pin hole to the end of the extension here of about 53 and a half inches. And what's nice, if you notice this bar here, you can raise up or down so you can get a height that'll adjust to match the height of your truck bed.

Does come with the four quick release snapper pins here to make set up very simple. You'll have a snapper pin in here. You'll have one in here for the height adjustments and then one on each end here for the width adjustments. Now when you use this as a truck bed extender like this in a retracted position like this height bar right here from the top of the shank to the top of the load bar, so when this is installed into your hitch from the top of this shank to the top of this load bar and it's retracted, it's 15 and three quarter inches. If you extend this up all the way to the highest position and then you measure from the top of this shank to the top of the load bar, it's gonna be about 23 inches tall.

Now the width can be adjusted we mentioned. I want to zoom in from this angle so you can see on these bars here. The width right here you can see, you can move these bars in or out to whatever position you need and use the snapper pins and lock it into place. But if you measure this width, totally retracted the inside width is gonna be 28 inches. If you extend it out as far as you can, the inside width will be 48 inches.

Now the arms also will fold down. So in other words, you can slide this arm out all the way and then there's a hole like this and you can put it in there and attach your snapper pin and do the same on this side. You take this all the way out and just rotate it flat, slide it back in and pin it. Now it'll give you traditional support for a larger load, and you can also put something on top of here and use it as a portable workspace if you'd like. And just to put it back into the adjustable position, slide these back in like that.

And again, use the snapper pins to lock it into place to where you need it. Now the bed extender configuration, this will let you carry extra long loads that'll extend past your truck bed. But what's nice about this part, by reversing these two pieces down here on the base, you can change this into a roof extender so it'll go up higher. And just to show what we're talking about, there's the two different positions. You can see the one horizontal position like it is in now is for a bed extender. And then the other one goes up vertical as a roof extender. And the way you would do that, basically, this port part right here will slide out. And all you do is reverse it, and then you take out your bar that slides up and down. We'll just set that right over here. And then what you'll do is reverse these. So in other words, this portion here now has the hitch pin holes here. You can slide this into your hitch and then this portion here will slide right into the top here. So it'll give you a higher vertical roof extender. And what you would do is when you use it as a roof extender all put together, the height of it, it'll be from the top of the shank to the top of the load bar. Again, is gonna be 55 and one eights inches. With this extended as far as it can go tall, it'll get you 63 and a quarter inches. And as we mentioned, the adjustable width on this'll accommodate different size cargos. I'm just gonna go ahead and put this back together as the bed extender. So be able to just slide this in. And again, you put your snapper pin in here and then just take your height bar and slide it in just like that. And now you're back to the horizontal bed extender. This will free up space in your bed or your cargo area for other cargo. The adjustable width we mentioned accommodates different size cargo. If you notice, it has this nice, reflective tape on here and on here to provide increased visibility. They do even include this 18 inch by 18 inch reflective flag. Has a little round hook on it that you can attach to one of the snapper pins to give you the visibility. It is a sturdy and durable steel construction. It does have a nice black powder coat finish on it to resist corrosion. Now when you do install this into your hitch receiver, it will require a hitch pining clip or a hitch lock that is not included. You would have to supply that or we do sell those separately. And the diameter is your standard five eight inch diameter. Application, again, this is designed to fit into two inch by two inch trailer hitch receivers, and the weight capacity is 350 pounds. But that should do it for the review on this Flint Hill Goods Truck Bed Extender for two inch hitches..

Two kayaks, two bicycles, and a loaded truck going from Arizona to Colorado. The extender worked great with double hitch adapter for bike rack and extender. Still need to ratchet and tie everything down to control play in units.

Product is exactly as described. Assembly was super easy. My application is construction materials and canoe hauling. I loaded my canoe by myself easily into the bed of my f150; tie-down was easy and the width and height adjustments worked fine.

great, stands up to all the things a farmer can throw at it.

Works great for my canoe with a few additions. I have a shortbed truck and even with the tailgate down and the canoe in diagonally, there is still too much overhang to keep the canoe situation as securely as I’d like. So I took a chance and bought the MaxxTow truck bed extender and have been very pleased.

I like how versatile it is. I can use it with roof rack on another vehicle or with my truck. All in in all it seems solidly built. It went together so easy didn’t need to refer to the instructions but I did anyway just to make sure I didn’t miss anything.
Tossed in the canoe and went to the lake. Spent a few hours and came home after dark. Since my canoe sticks a few feet back of the extender, I had tied a flag on it. Flag helps in the daytime but not much good at night but it does have the nice reflective stickers to help out.

To help out at night (and during the day) I bought a set of magnetic trailer lights and put on it. They make a huge difference for the visibility both day and night. I also went to a home improvement store and bought some pipe insulation and wrapped around the crossbars and vertical bars that the canoe will contact. All in all, including the extender, lights and insulation I have less than $100 in it all. Incredible bang for the buck.

Very happy with the MaxxTow MaxxHaul truck bed extender. Quality and workmanship is very good, everything went together easily right out of the box without any need for me to make adjustments. I have a Honda Ridgeline which has a short bed with storage under the bed. This extender is perfect for my situation because it makes the bed more useful and the hitch breaks down into smaller pieces making it easy to store when not in use. That is one of the main reasons I bought this specific extender. Fits easily into my trunk space so its always handy. My only regret is I waited so long to purchase, I could have used it many times already.

This product was everything advertised. I rarely order online. Probably the most inpatient person in this world. So when I'm telling you this. It's really how it was. Shipping seemed a little long for me. In reality, it probably was ahead of time. Approximately 10 days to my porch I do believe. Assembly was a breeze. Would recommend this sight to others. I hate hooking up to a trailer all the time. This will allow me to pick up longer lumber and carry bigger ladders with just my truck.

by:

Extender was perfect for my needs, carrying a canoe, paddleboards, and long lengths of lumber.

by:

Bought this to haul our tandem kayak. Works like a champ. Also used for lumber, ladders, timber, pipe and other materials finishing a home build. Who knew? It was a good purchase for a lot of reasons I never even considered.

Comments
My opinion is the same, a great purchase for a lot of reasons. Used it last week with the kayak and its perfect. It makes our Tundra more flexible and carries long loads more safely and securely. Get one. YOu wont regret it!

The extender worked great on my Chevy Colorado with a 5' bed. It was simple to assemble and has a rugged & adjustable design. It worked perfect to transport my two kayaks and camping gear. One kayak is 12 feet long and the other is 9.5 feet long. My 12' kayak rested on the cross bar with a 2-3 foot overhang.....perfect. I then strap it down to the cross bars. My 9.5' kayak gets pressed and strapped up against one of the upright bars of the extender, so no way is this 9.5' kayak moving back. This hitch makes loading and unloading the kayaks much easier than a 'over the cab' kayak carriers that mount the kayaks about 7 feet off the ground. This hitch extender puts the kayaks at chest height for me now which is much easier.

by:

This is a great product. I've had it for 1 year and have used it several times to haul lumber in the back of my truck that was up to 14' long. Very handy. Will also be using it in the up position to carry a canoe later.

by:

Was looking for an affordable bed extender to add kayak racks to. It allows me to easily load and unload two 12' kayaks from my short bed Toyota Tacoma. This rack does the job perfectly! etrailer is great to work with.

by:

Simple to put together and install. I'll use it to transport kayaks and I can quickly move it from my pickup truck to my 900 Polaris Ranger
It looks to be well constructed and I can also use it for a bed extension on my pickup which has a short bed

Comments

Quality, fit, finish and packaging were excellent. Shipping rates and service were fantastic. Communication has been very good. I cannot offer any reasonable suggestions for improvement. I definitely recommend this company!

Comments
Thanks for a decal - now installed. Photo is of your bed extender with a 2018 Honda Ridgeline and Hobie tandem Eclipse kayak. That is a long kayak and the extender works great.

Installed on my 2002 Tacoma.
I bought
it to haul my 13' Vibe Seaghost kayak. Just need to add pads to the base and arm extenders and itll be perfect. Should add option to purchase padding like what's on a boat trailer for those of us hauling kayaks.

Perfect for carrying my kayak on a shortbed Tacoma

I’m impressed with the design and simplicity of your product. I definitely feel like I got a good deal for the cost of the Maxxhaul. Thank you for making a worthwhile product !
My daughter had to put it together just to show me she could ! LOL !!!

by:

Bar will not go low enough to be level with the bed of a Toyota Tacoma pickup. Frame is built sturdy enough to handle expected loads. Am still pleased with the product!. I put a 1 x 4 across the tailgate and this corrected my lumber load to be evenly distributed between the extender and the truck bed.

Love it!

Love it ! Use it weekly or more for my kayak and my wife's paddleboard. The only thing I did was cover the crossbar and uprights with a pool noodle. Used a bright lime green one that gives the unit higher visibility. The whole thing fits in the storage compartment under the bed of my Ridgeline.

Comments
great also working great for 2 kayaks

by:

Great way to haul big ladders without breaking the bank. Well built, easy to assemble, and easy to adjust.

by:

This is a great product!! I'm a Carpenter and use this all the time hauling materials. Before I got this I had to pull a trailer for materials. This saves money on the gas bill not having to use the trailer.

by:

Light and very flexible, strong enough for anything I've needed so far, tying down a canoe and small loads of lumber.

by:

I like the bar, it solves a major problem for me. I'm now able to put a 17 foot long canoe in the back of my pickup, which is really amazing to do. Keeps me from having to keep lifting it over my head, which at my age I'm getting tired of doing. A couple things I was unhappy about - the lack of a thicker base pin where the bar goes into the hitch on the bumper. They REALLY should include that. My shipment was also missing a couple of the regular pins, so I had to go to the hardware store to buy them before I could even use the bar. That is disappointing. Not a huge deal, but annoying. But overall, I'm glad I purchased it, because the bar itself is very useful and well-made.

by:

Great product for the price. Only negative I would list is the weight of it but that’s to be expected with the material. I would recommend this product.

by:

Arrived quickly and was just what i needed to haul a 17 foot canoe in the bed of my truck. The pieces that pin together have a little slop in them but once strapped down it doesn’t affect its performance. It’s pretty stout as well and I believe it’s capacity is advertised correctly.

by:

Great product easy install but 1 washer was too small for the bolt

by:

Great price, quick delivery, and easy to install and store. I recently went from a full size GMC pickup to a Nissan Frontier (tired of giant trucks) and needed some additional support for hauling a 13 ft fishing kayak. This rack is perfect in the bed extension mode. In the upright "T" mode it easily carries my 17 ft racing kayak. Will soon try and carry a 17 ft aluminum racing canoe, but I am sure it will work just as well.

Comments
I have had this bed extension for about a year now. I added a lock to where it attaches to my hitch, making it more secure in parking areas. In the extended mode it easily supports and carries all my kayaks ranging from 14-17 ft long. I put it in the upright position, combined with some easily removed roof racks to carry my aluminum canoe. One time I actually got a 17ft aluminum canoe and a 21ft narrow racing canoe loaded and carried for 6hrs at hwy speeds in this configuration. In summary, it works great.
