Recommended B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitches for the Ram Puck System

Updated 03/16/2026 | Published 03/09/2026

Question:

I have a 2026 Ram 2500 with OEM tow prep package. I am looking at the BandW Companion puck system or the single point fifth wheel slider hitch. My question is if the puck system is more secure and a smoother ride or would I even notice a difference.

Hey Tom, congrats on the new truck! Typically when we hear that someone has the OEM tow prep package they mean the puck system. This is going to be five circular holes built into the bed of your Ram truck and is by far the best way to attach a 5th wheel hitch. It's going to provide a more secure connection and is super convenient.

There's only two B&W Companion 5th wheel hitches that are going to work with the Ram puck system. One is a slider and one is a standard 5th wheel hitch. They both have the same head and shock absorption features. I have listed them below:

Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch - 20,000 lbs B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider for Ram Towing Prep Package item # BWRVK3670

Standard 5th Wheel Hitch - 25,000 lbs B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch for Ram Towing Prep Package item # BWRVK3600

It is highly recommended to use a sliding 5th wheel hitch if you have the shorter 6-1/2' bed.

Does your new Ram truck have the puck system like the picture I attached below?

I bought and recommend the slider hitch. You have more flexibility when connecting and disconnecting. I have it installed in my 2021 Ram 2500 and it is very secure. There would really be no noticeable difference in ride quality between the two.

Tom, I have a 2025 RAM with factory installed puck system. I would also recommend the slider 5th wheel hitch in the RAM truck . I have used my slider hitch for the last 2 trucks I have owned and never wished i didn't have it. I does make it possible to hitch and unhitch from different angles and positions other than strait back. The ride quality of this hitch is great as far as I'm concerned. If you are asking about using a gooseneck hitch from your center hole, I have no experience in the goose neck systems. Have heard they ride a little smoother but couldn't imagine it being worth the extra cost. Just my opinion and good luck with whatever you choose. Stay Safe !!

Perfect fit in my 2017 Ram 3500 and my newer 2024 Ram 3500. I have the slider version which O’d recommend. Only issue is it’s a two man job to take in and out because of the weight.

@Greg Yeah the B&W Companion item # BWRVK3670 is a solid piece of equipment! The head comes off but that base still weighs well over 100 lbs. There's no such thing as a light sliding hitch. Thanks for leaving that feedback Greg!

I have the slider version in my 2019 Ram. I have the 6.5’ bed, sliding the hitch to the rear (with tailgate open) makes it easier to back into a tight spot. Easy to remove and install. It’s a really good hitch, well made. Definitely worth the price.

2024, RAM 3500 shortbed. I have the slider and have used it about 12 times over the two years we have been RVing full time. When you need it - there is no other option. Some CG’s are just not set up for bigger RV’s. Mi e is only 30’, and we’ve had issues. The system does take up a lot of your bed space and consumes about 350lbs of your payload! Minimal routine maintenance required!
