Can Tires on Malone Xtralight be Upgraded to 205/65-10?

Updated 11/04/2025 | Published 10/28/2025

Question:

Im considering upsizing the tires on my Malone Xtralight kayak trailer to 205/65-10. Currently have LR Bs which have been more than adequate. The trailer weighs 175 and the kayaks total 200 for a total of 375s. LR Bs would have a total load capacity of +1800s. My point in upsizing is to reduce the bounce when hitting bumps being that the trailer and load is so light. Would I be correct in staying with LR B ? Yes, I know Ill have to relocate the fenders....

Hey Duane, thanks for reaching out!

Yes, the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" Galvanized Wheel # AM3H360 with a Load Range B rating would be a great alternative. Just understand that you might need to run the air in the tires a little lower than what's on the sidewall to keep the trailer from bouncing all over the place. I unfortunately don't know what a safe psi rating would be since Kenda doesn't have a chart for that, so just know you'll be kind of flying blind in that area.

You'll also want to make sure this tire is still 2" away from your trailer frame. The tire is 8.3" wide so it's going to sit in about 4" from where it mounts to the hub.

Are you looking to get the whole kit with the galvanized wheel?

Thanks Jon, I plan to go with the tie & galvanized wheel combo.

@DuaneR Sounds good! I'd love to get your feedback on the conversion once you have a chance to swap everything out!

@JonG, It'll be a while till I get the tires changed to the larger Kenda tires. In my case, not only will I have to relocate the fenders (easy) but will have to cut them down to clear the cargo rack I made.

@DuaneR Ah, that makes sense. Well, either way I'd like to hear about it when you're able to get to it!
