Updated 10/19/2025 | Published 10/18/2025

Question:

Looking to set up flat towing a 2024 Chevy Colorado Z71 with curb weight of 4971lbs behind a 2024 Thor Hurricane 34J with tow capacity of 8000lbs. Can you provide a list of products needed to do this safely within a moderate budget plan? Dont want to go all cheap and dont want to overpay for something I dont need. Thank you.

Yes, I can John. To flat tow your 2024 Chevy Colorado Z71 you will need the following parts:

Tow Bar and Safety Chains - etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plates item # e74ZR

Base Plate Kit - Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms item # RM28GR

Wiring Harness - Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit item # RM-15267

Battery Disconnect - Roadmaster Battery Disconnect for Towed Vehicle w/ Flat Tow Brake System item # RM-766

Supplemental Braking System - Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Braking System for RVs w/ Hydraulic Brakes item # DM86VR

High Low Adapter - The tow bar needs to be within 3" of level. If you measure the height of the inside top of the hitch receiver tube on your RV, and the height difference is more than 3 inches above/below the base plate tab height, you'll need a high/low adapter. I have linked a FAQ article that explains all this in more detail along with our selection of adapters.

Have you ever flat towed a vehicle before?

No this will be my first attempt at flat towing. Just trying to ensure I know what it takes. Lots a videos out there and it's easy to get overwhelmed as a newby.
